Amazon Mistakenly Lists 3G PS Vita As Discontinued… Oops…

Earlier on today, Amazon listed the 3G version of the PS Vita as discontinued by Sony.

Apparently, someone over at Amazon either really has it out for the PS Vita or just was half-asleep on the job since Patrick Seybold, Sony’s senior director of corporate communication and social media refuted these claims.

So, if you happened to be on Amazon earlier, looking over at the 3G PS Vita and saw the “discontinued by manufacturer” label… don’t panic! All is well. The error has since been fixed and the PS Vita is still set to launch in North America on February 22nd.

Dead Island Takes Over PS Home, New XBLA Avatar Items, and Pre-Order Goodies

There’s plenty going on for Dead Island this week in anticipation for the game’s release on September 6th, which is now just a week and a half away. Zombie fans rejoice.

Recently, Dead Island challenges have been added to PlayStation Home. If players complete these challenges, they gain Dead Island gear and some in-game goodies. The zombie takeover has been so effective that close to 10 million zombies have been eviscerated. Noice.

New Dead Island avatar items have also hit the XBLA marketplace, just in case you felt like picking up a virtual Dead Island towel, cap, or (my favorite), the floating “Dead Island”.

And since the Dead Island team’s artists apparently couldn’t, according to the press release, stop themselves from “continuing to draw pretty pictures”, there’s a new digital strategy map of the entire Royal Palms Resort, which includes the locations of all weapons mods blueprints. The map will be made available to you if you decide to pre-order the game from Amazon, which also includes the pre-order bonus of the Dead Island Digital Art Book.

God of War: Master Collection Listed by Amazon Germany

Amazon Germany has listed a God of War: Master Collection for the PlayStation 3. According to the listing this the Master Collection will include every God of War game to date (GoW 1, 2 & 3 and the PSP games Chains of Olympus and Ghosts of Sparta). Essentially a combination of the God of War Collection and the upcoming God of War Collection Volume 2.

The listing is simple and does not include a picture but does have a date – September 16th. We’ll keep you updated as new information comes in.

Amazon Offering Digital Art Book With Dead Island Pre-orders

Today Deep Silver has announced their pre-order bonus for Dead Island through Amazon.

When gamers pre-order Dead Island through Amazon they will receive an exclusive digital art book including tons of game art and concept art of everything from the characters, that fat tourist dude with the camera, zombie types, environment concepts, and more. Dead Island is out on September 6 in North America for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Here at RipTen, we’ve been excited to see the popular survival-horror series make its 3D debut on Nintendo’s handheld. Capcom has touted the game as having a full feature set, large cast of characters, and endless online replayability. While we’re still working on our full review, it looks like consumers are already making their decision known online via Amazon.com. The game is currently rated at less than one and a half stars, and is set to keep going downhill from there.

While the biggest complaint is the horrific one un-deleteable save feature that was revealed a few days ago, that’s definitely not the only problem being voiced:

“There is less content on this game then many 99 cent games on the iphone”

“This is a horrible rush-job of a game that is way overpriced at $40″. “I don’t care how much fun this game is, or how good it looks, or how much it costs”

“There is one save slot. Save data is permanent and cannot be deleted. Capcom is attempting to set a new precedent in consumer manipulation and control with this product!”

“Do yourself a favor and save your money”

We are not going to judge the game until we’ve been able to properly review it; but the crowd has spoken, and it’s not looking good for Capcom.

Amazon App Store for Android

Up until now, Google has been the only ‘official’ way to get apps on the Android platform. There have been a few knockoffs, but no real competition. Now, Amazon has entered the market, and Google has a real competitor.

Amazon has always been known for a great online shopping experience. They’ve always been friendly to gamers, offering launch day delivery and video game credits for preorders. Now they’re extending that experience to a marketplace to purchase apps for the Android OS. After a couple of test searches, I found pretty much anything you’d be able to find on the Google Marketplace, but now you can browse and purchase on your computer using your Amazon account. The app will automatically be downloaded to your phone after the purchase is complete. The system even knows what kind of phone you have, and will let you know if the app is compatible for your phone or not.

This marketplace competition is a good thing for the Android platform. While Google’s Marketplace has been all we’ve really had since Android began, it has been sadly lacking in some features. Amazon’s Market is looking great so far, and Google will have to do a lot of catching up already. Amazon is also featuring a free app of the day every day right now, so it’s easy to grow your app collection without having to spend a dime. And, like Google’s Market, you know your purchases are saved and can be re-downloaded with your Amazon account information. Go ahead and check it out here.

Nintendo 3DS Breaks Amazon UK Pre-Order Record

The Nintendo 3DS has broken Amazon UK’s record for console pre-orders, as well as Nintendo’s own record.

With at least twice as many 3DS pre-orders as Wii pre-orders, the record has been well and truly thrashed.

David Yarnton, General Manager of Nintendo UK, had this to say:

“The reaction to Nintendo 3DS has exceeded our wildest expectations… Glasses-free 3D entertainment has truly arrived. It’s almost certain that the number of Nintendo 3DS consoles sold on Friday will exceed the number of 3D televisions sold in the whole of 2010.”

Considering how expensive 3D televisions are here, that statistic is hardly surprising, but congratulations to Nintendo anyway. Who got hold of one yesterday, UK Ripteners? I haven’t yet as I’m still reeling at the price, and I’m still not done with Pokémon White yet. Any thoughts? Leave a comment below.

Mafia II: Director’s Cut Outed By Amazon

What, you thought there wasn’t gon be no Mafia II final edition!? What, wit all dat DLC you ain’t played yet!? Fuggedaboutit!!

Mafia II is one hell of a game, especially on a high end PC. However, there was all sorts of DLC released and it looks as if 2K has decided to put out a Director’s Cut that will include all the things you may have missed.

What did you miss? The Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy’s Vendetta, Joe’s Adventures, and a slew of other things 2K probably decided to leave out of the original game.

Yep, time for another one of those all-day video game Gold Box Events. Amazon.com has announced yet another Gold Box event for Wednesday, February 23rd.

Sucker Punch has announced inFAMOUS 2 will be launching in North America exclusively on June 7th, 2011 – so far no info on the euro release date. They have also given details for the special “Hero” Edition bundle and preorder retail bonuses.

Target Website Error Lists PS3 Console for $40 – Gets Overloaded With Orders (UPDATE)

Oh Well, Was Worth a Shot ...

Ever wanted to buy a Playstation 3 yet you don’t have the asking price? Well Target seems to have slipped up and due to their error you can now order your very own brand new PS3 for a mind-blowing $40!

Target is currently selling the Playstation 3 units for $39.99 with $15.99 shipping, and there’s numerous reports of people actually buying these through Amazon as well. Obviously this is some crazy mistake, however the official Target website is also listing the units at $39.99, so maybe it’s some sort of crazy fire sale courtesy of Target and Amazon. We doubt it.

If you look closely on the Target website, you will see the description is for the new PSMove sharpshooter attachment and the weight is only 2.4lbs. So something is obviously mislabeled.

We just ordered three via Amazon and got an order confirmation email saying that we did in fact order three Playstation 3 Consoles - we’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds. Someone is likely getting fired over this.
