There is a new trailer hitting the interwebs today for Trials Evolution. Methinks it got leaked early, just as they unfinished game leaked recently, because it keeps getting taken down.

I’m not why they’s want to take it down because it is AWESOME. Besides showing INCREDIBLE bike action, you’ve got THRILLING multiplayer and an INSANE Creation System (Yes, I am that psyched after watching said trailer). Watch the trailer below.

Ubisoft and RedLynx look to have a winner. Trials Evolution looks to land on Xbox Live Spring 2012.

Diablo III on Consoles? You Bet Your Ass.

If you’re someone who’s shown an interest in a Blizzard game, but doesn’t have the money to shell for a high-end PC, you’re in luck. After some vague talking, Blizzard has announced that Diablo III is coming to us console kiddies. Blizzard Community manager Micah Whipple confirmed on his Twitter when asked about the possibility:

“Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project.”

Mosqueira himself decided to pitch in on the talk by tweeting that Blizzard needs designers for consoles:

“Are you a game designer? Do you love Diablo? What about Diablo on console? If so we’re looking for you…”

At this time, there haven’t been any specific consoles announced, or a release date. But still, a Blizzard game coming to the consoles. Pretty sweet, right?

Xbox Live Now Has An Official iOS App

While there have been many apps that have similar functionality in the past, Microsoft has finally released an app for iOS that allows you to access your Live Account. The app coincides with the launch of Microsoft‘s latest version of its dashboard.

Microsoft’s new app allows you to do many of the same things you could do from your Xbox console. For instance, you can view your games and achievements, message your friends, and even edit your avatar. Those Xbox community videos also show up on the main page, completing the Xbox experience. You can set up and use the new beacons feature to show your friends what games you’re itching to play when you get home from work.

All in all, the new app is a worthy download and better than any of the other, “unofficial” apps that are out there. On top of that, it’s a free download, so check it out!

Anyone who’s familiar with the Metal Gear Solid series knows Revolver Ocelot. That cocky bastard sure does love his six shooters and he sure knows how to spin ‘em. He does some pretty impressive gun spinnin’ in the game, but let’s see someone try that in real life!

Well, not only is YouTuber Juski1000 one hell of a gunslinger, he’s so damn good, he can drop it like he’s Ocelot.

What LEGO Gears of War 3 Would Look Like – ‘Bricks of War’ Kicks Ass!

Ever wonder what the Gears of War Trilogy would look like made out of LEGOs? If you have I’m sure it looked something similar to “Bricks of War” – A stop-motion animation based on the Gears of War franchise.

Thanks to Kooberz Studios, you can watch LEGO Marcus and Dom open a can of Whoopass on a group of Locusts. Watch to see some of the more popular weapons such as the lego Hammer of Dawn.

NYCC 11: New Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Trailer Features Grimlock

Wow, Transfomers: Fall of Cybertron will definitely capture the attention and hearts of all transformer fans with this new trailer featuring (what we suspect) is Dinobot leader Grimlock. I just wonder how they will present his voice? Will he have the traditional “Me Grimlock” speech pattern or will they try to make him sound tougher and smarter?

Either way, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will take fans through the final, darkest hours of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons as they fight for control of their dying planet, ultimately leading to their storied exodus from home.

NYCC 11: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed for Ultimate MvC3 – Trailers and Screens

Capcom has released a whole bunch of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 assets including trailers and screens introducing new characters Nova and Phoenix Wright.

Nova represents Marvel and is a member of an intergalactic police force. His powers enhanced strength, flight, injury resistance, and a specialized uniform. Representing Capcom is no other than ace attorney Phoenix Wright. Any objections you may have are quickly adjourned as you watch how awesomely silly his move set is in the videos below.

If you pay close attention to the first trailer you may see a teaser for a previously unannounced fighter (also in the last screen shot).

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this November. Enjoy the screenshots and trailers below.

These Life Sized Skyrim Statues Are Heading to a Retailer Near You

I’ve seen a lot of awesome stuff related to games. Whether it be stellar cosplay or amazing artwork depicting your favorite game – I’m amazed by the creative talent that video games bring out in each of us.

Yet, nothing comes close to what Bethesda is sending out to retailers in order to promote The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

That’s right, those are all life sized bronzed statues of the greatest Dragonborn in all the land.

Behold… DOVAKHIIN!!!

Why Diablo 3 on Consoles Wouldn’t Be Terrible

We all know PC gamers are charismatically defensive of their platform. Yet the reluctance of allowing developers loyal to the PC onto other platforms is only holding back the industry. Now Blizzard is seeking to defy its persistently loyal audience by “seriously considering” bringing Diablo 3 to the consoles.

Alongside the announcement of the ultra-difficult “Inferno” mode, and without saying word of a release date, lead designer Josh Mosquiera at said at Gamescom that:

“We’re trying to build the best console team at Blizzard. We’re looking for programmers, designers, artists who think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console.”

So, apparently, it’s been confirmed.

But the question remains: would the port be successful? None of Blizzard’s modern day iterations of their key franchises (Starcraft, Warcraft and Diablo) have made their way to the consoles properly before, so the experiment would be a huge gamble. Only going on brand recognition alone, Blizzard has consistently high sales because consumers expect quality. Moreover, the implementation of Battle.net (Blizzard’s online profile service) has prolonged the shelf life of any iterations from the three famous franchises. Could Blizzard garner the same type of community on consoles matching what exists on PC? It’s hard to tell.

Typically, both mediums are considered separate. But PC-exclusive companies are realizing an audience exists within the console community that doesn’t slave themselves over a Call of Duty game. Valve and Crytek, both previously PC exclusive, brought their star franchises to the console with favourable results. Many even said Crysis 2 is the best-looking console game to date. Valve even made it possible for PS3 and PC players to play co-op on Portal 2. A precedent does exist, and if Blizzard could establish Battle.net without any hiccups or issues with the console makers, they could amass sufficient if not insane sales.

It’s possible! I’d love to see the console audience embrace Blizzard’s franchises with open arms. Perhaps this could further enclose the relationship between the PC and console fan base. Though, to ensure success, Blizzard should allow interconnectivity through the two platforms.

One thing is sure, next year should be fun.

Bungie Employee Subdues Gunman, Is Awesome

This may not have anything to do with video games directly, but it’s still worth posting. Jeff Fletcher, an employee at Halo developer Bungie, took down a suspected gunman, and even used his own pair of handcuffs to bring the guy in.

Fletcher drove up to an ATM at 8:30 PM on Saturday outside a US bank and watched the suspect shoot another man. Fletcher, a former security guard, waited from behind the ATM for the shooter to come to him before taking out his own concealed firearm.

“I told him to drop his weapon, he dropped his weapon,” Fletcher said to King5.com. “I told him to get on the ground, he got on the ground.”

Fletcher’s father, a former Seattle police officer, gave him a pair of handcuffs that Fletcher used to bring the gunman in. Of course, Fletcher doesn’t recommend that everyone do that.

“To ex-police or ex-army, or somebody who’s got sufficient training and who’s willing to take on that kind of risk for their loved ones or their community and has the capacity to do it, absolutely.”

Looks like Mister Fletcher finished the fight peacefully.

New Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Gameplay Trailer Shows Why It’s a Contender

DICE and EA are not holding back as they look to dethrone Activsion’s CoD series. Battlefield 3 has definitely gotten notice, not just for it’s great graphics, but also the ability to use different vehicles such as jet planes to create an unforgettable experience.

The question is whether BF3 has what it takes to take down MW3. If this Multiplayer Gameplay trailer is any indication, Activision definitely has a fight on its hands.

This 66 Year Old Loves Battlefield

At the ripe old age of 66, most people would be settling down with friends and family. A normal day would include gardening, lawn bowls and perhaps a cup of tea in the afternoon. “Wacko Jacko” is no ordinary 66 year old, sure he touches up his garden now and then, but by night he’s obliterating players on Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

As the video implies, feel free to add Jacko as a friend and play some Bad Company with him. Who says you’re too old to play games!

E3 2011: Halo Anniversary Impressions

Although it was only officially shown and announced at Microsofts initial press conference on Monday, Halo Anniversary is one of the biggest titles on my video game radar.

I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to check it out, and I can comfortably say that Halo is in safe and experienced hands at 343.

The gameplay started off with the island approach at the start of the “Silent Cartographer” level, and right from the start my mind was blown.

Halo is a game I grew up playing ten years ago, and as such it has a pretty special and important place in my gaming heart. Seeing the beautiful draw distances and waves rolling up the beach was something I never would’ve imagined for the game that pioneered console shooters.

As the Pelican lands and Chief exits via the rear ramp a rush of memories suddenly came back.

The Elites and Grunts strafing and avoiding the gunfire while bullets and plasma whipped up dust. It was, and still is amazing.

As we progressed along the beach, the executive producer of the game showed us a new feature that allows you to instantly switch between the old classic game and the new HD remake. As the water moved peacefully around a Warthog sitting in the tide, a single button was pushed and we were instantly looking at the old Halo from ten years ago.

It’s an extremely humbling thing to visually see just how far games have come through the times, and it’s an excellent addition to what was already an incredible game.

Terminals from Halo 3 are making a return, and its been promised that if you find them all in Anniversary, well, you’ll find out some of the story in Halo 4. On the topic of returning features, series fans will be happy to know that the original Magnum is returning to the series.

After we checked out the brief yet awesome campaign experience we were shown a multiplayer trailer. The multiplayer is running in the Halo: Reach engine and as such will be featuring armor abilities across the seven maps that will be available.

A representative from MLG also confirmed that they intend on supporting the game with MLG playlists like in the older games.

The overhauled soundtrack and visuals coupled with the timely gameplay an action make Halo Anniversary a must have for any serious fans of the series.

Halo Anniversary launches this November and at $39.99 it’s a damn steal.

Get Ready to Fear the Reaper in Darksiders II

Last week, we here at RipTen reported that we may soon hear big news from GI about the Darksiders sequel. Luckily, Game Informer has put the rumors to rest and finally revealed Darksiders II as their bad ass July cover.

The original Darksiders told the story of War, the Horseman of the Apocalypse who kinda forgot to check his calendar and started the Apocalypse early. Oops. Darksiders II, based on the info given, will take place during the events of the original Darksiders, set in the Abyss. War’s actions clearly effed up the rest of the world, and one of his brethren has the crappy task of picking up after him.

By checking out the cover below, you can see that you’ll be playing as Death, the Horseman of death, obviously. You’ll also notice, in typical sequel fashion, that he’s got two scythes. It kinda makes sense, given that his bro War jacked his scythe in the first game, so it’ll be interesting to see how two scythes fare in combat.

Darksiders II is said to be at E3, and the cover will be available for Game Informer subscribers the day after E3 begins, so it shouldn’t be long before we start posting up some juicy info. In the mean time, feast your eyes on the cover’s kickass artwork up above, courtesy of comic book artist Joe Madureira. And if you haven’t played Darksiders 1 already, go on and do so. Seriously, it’s awesome.

PS Exclusive “One Epic Game” Is Indeed One Epic Game

Hey guys, I don’t mean to blow any minds here or anything, but Grip Games are releasing a video game exclusively for the Playstation platforms, that you can purchase with money on the Playstation Store. Said game will feature jumping and shooting, which is pretty neat if you ask me. Alright, enough of the sarcasm, check out the trailer for this downloadable title here;

All jokes aside, this game looks like it has an addictive quality akin to that of Canabalt on the iOS platform. Enemies and obstacles will be randomly generated, so each play-through will be a new experience to that last. ‘Killzone Extraction’ Fan Made Short Brings Killzone 3 to Life

Killzone 3 is by all accounts a visually stunning game. YouTube user Pwnisher has taken it to the next level with a stunning live action short ‘Killzone: Extraction’. Finally, Killzone in full 1080P HD! (joke)

Killzone Extraction follows a squad of ISA troops as they try to reach the extraction site. It ain’t going to be easy.

Truly a must see for any Killzone fan. Epic doesn’t describe it. Watch and enjoy.

Crysis 2 PS3 Footage is Glorious – Killzone 3 Has Competition

Crysis 2 PS3 footage has finally surfaced … and it looks damn good. The footage, titled “Semper Fi”, shows fast and furious fighting in the ruins of New York City.

Is the footage up to Killzone 3 standards? That’s up to you to decide. I will say it looks surprisingly good and easily equal to the Xbox 360 version.

RipTen Review: Hard Corps Uprising (XBLA)

I’d like you to take a second out of your busy day to think about something- when was the last time you were truly challenged by a video game. I mean truly and completely challenged by a game on it’s default setting, to the point where you were so frustrated you were ready to smash your controller into a few dozen shards of shapeless plastic? I’m sure you’ve been pissed when somebody just won’t stop camping in Bad Company 2, or when you decided to crank the difficulty of God of War up as far as it could go and found out that just being looked at by an enemy was enough to make you have to reload a save, but when was the last time you put a game into your system of choice and were brutally assaulted by the developers intentions on it’s default setting?

It’s probably been a while.

Difficulty has become a characteristic of an era we no longer live in. When a game has above normal difficulty, people generally refer to it as ‘old school’ or ‘classic.’ That is, if they don’t outwardly dismiss it for being ‘unbalanced’ or having ‘too steep of a learning curve.’ Now, if I were a progressive leftist with anarchist leanings, I’m sure I could extrapolate this as a representation of what our culture has become. I would say something like, in the everybody-is-a-winner mentality that has begun to wrap it’s soggy tendrils around our world, a world where majestic and misunderstood beasts like the Dickwolves are persecuted, we seem to have lost focus on how rewarding it is to accomplish nearly impossible things. Luckily I’m not, so I won’t say anything like that.

The point I’m trying to make is that it’s probably been a while since you felt the same kind of consistent challenge that you felt from 90% of the games you played when most of your wardrobe consisted of matching GI Joe pajamas.

Enter “Hard Corps: Uprising.” This game isn’t just hard, it’s a total fucking asshole. Oh, and feel free to use that as a blurb in your marketing campaign Konami. Hard Corps starts at a difficulty setting somewhere around “screw you” and ends somewhere around “razordicks.” It is not for the weak of willed, as whatever ability you think you have with video games will be ripped apart and shown to you as it bleeds to death, all while it laughs at you and continues to shoot impossible to dodge lasers from mechanical desert snake monsters. You can’t necessarily accuse Hard Corps of being cheap, but it certainly does take a sadistic joy in throwing so many things at you that your death is all but guaranteed.

Note, however, that I say that as an entirely positive thing. Hard Corps: Uprising is the prequel to Contra: Hard Corps on the Sega Genesis, so what would you expect other than unrelenting sprite murder? Arc System Works was tasked with giving the Contra series a modern shine and has done an amazing job of capturing what made that series so enduring- it’s balls to the wall challenge.

This isn’t to say that they were content with just making an outrageously hard game, they decided to make it outrageously entertaining as well. The gameplay is exactly what you expect from a Contra game- you run around slaughtering your foes, collecting powerups, and trying not to die. You can do this in two different modes, “Rising” and “Arcade.” In the new to the series Rising Mode, you go through the eight stages gaining credits that can be used to purchase permanent character upgrades that make things slightly easier on you. Only slightly though, as even a maxed out character doesn’t make Hard Corps: Uprising a walk in the park.

Arcade Mode is for people so masochistic that I feel obligated to give them a number to a good dominatrix. In Arcade, you start off with preset powers and abilities. Without upgrades, there are parts of this game that are so face smashingly hard that you’ll have ‘Nam flashbacks to that weekend you tried to beat Ghosts N Goblins. The one that nearly got you committed, that one.

Arc System Works didn’t pull any punches with the games inherent difficulty, but the addition of the RPG like Rising Mode was pretty brilliant, and was a much better idea than putting in some sort of easy mode or varying levels of difficulty. It gives people a chance to see things to the end, an improbable task without being able to bestow yourself with some extra lives.

They also didn’t hold back with the aesthetics. One of the reasons I’ve always loved Arc System Works so much is their fantastic grasp on making anime-styled games. They don’t just get the graphics and music right, which they do entirely in Hard Corps: Uprising, but they get the over-the-top atmosphere, plot, and character development right as well. Hard Corps features beautiful backgrounds, colorful characters, and even a cool story that I’m sure Arc System Work’s and Konami are looking forward to developing further at this series continues.

That isn’t to say that Hard Corps: Uprising doesn’t have a few negatives, although those negatives have nothing to do with the core game itself. Playing through the game with a partner makes things twice as fun, and the co-op is probably going to be what will really give it staying power, but the lack of a matchmaking service hurts things. As it is, you can only invite friends and party members to join in with your constant failures. More robust options for playing online would be quite welcome.

More frustrating than every boss battle combined though is the DLC. Hard Corps: Uprising starts you off with two characters who are basically the same, which makes sense considering the co-op focus, but in the (super awesome) intro and the character bio screen, they show you two more characters. Where are they you ask? Why, they are Day 1 DLC of course. There is literally nothing in this world that drives me more crazy than Day 1 DLC, and I won’t be proselytizing on my beliefs on it here (Spoiler Alert: I think it’s the worst thing to happen to gaming since developers decided the only color palettes you can make a FPS in is brown and browner) but to feature both these characters so heavily and make them so clearly integral to the plot, then hold them hostage, is a pretty big kick in the jimmy.

Still, capitalism in all it’s disgusting glory aside, this is a must have for anybody who misses waking up on a Saturday morning, pouring themselves a big bowl of Nintendo Cereal System, and having their childhood devoured by unrelentingly difficult games. Even with the new art direction for the series, Hard Corps: Uprising just feels like a Contra game through and through.

Here’s the Rundown:

+ Beating each level feels like a real accomplishment.
+ Ark System Work’s anime update of the series is fantastic.
+ It’s a new Contra game.

- I’d vote Republican if it meant companies started including day 1 DLC in the game.
- A more robust system for putting together co-op games would be nice.
- It might drive you to the point of insanity.

Hard Corps: Uprising was developed by Arc System Works, a company I would totally bang if it was one singular human being, and published by Konami. It was released on February 16th, 2011 on the Xbox Live Arcade for 1200MSP or $15 in real money. Or as real as our money actually is considering that all money is inherently valueless and is only given value by our plutocratic overlords and their manipulations to keep us subservient to their materialistic desires. What was I talking about? Oh, that’s right, it will also be released on the PlayStation Network at some point. The game was played to completion in Uprising mode on the difficulty setting of razordick, and took about nine hours with about three hours put into co-op. I haven’t beaten it on Arcade yet since I don’t get off on self flagellation. RipTen’s copy of the game was provided to us by either Konami or Arc System Works, Dave isn’t answering his e-mail yet to tell me which because he is too busy flexing and making sure his muscles glisten in the afternoon sun.
