Battlefield 3: Back to Karkland Screens and Release Date Revealed

Even though Battlefield 3 has just launched worldwide, EA and DICE are wasting no time readying the expansion pack as they just released a new set of screens. The DLC included four remastered maps: Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula. The expansion also includes five new dog tags, achievements/trophies, three new vehicles, and ten “iconic Battlefield weapons”.

Prepare to go Back to Karkland when it launches in December!

Nvidia and DICE Kick off the GeForce LAN With a Bang (Video)

As a wise man once said – I’m on a boat, motherfucker.

A big boat. A really big boat. A really big bad ass boat actually.

This baby served in the WWII and went to Midway and back.

Now, the USS Hornet is home to the Nvidia GeForce LAN 6. A three day celebration of PC gaming and Battlefield.

I’ve already taken hundreds of pictures and have some cool stories in the works, but in the meantime, how about you watch this video of the keynote which Nvidia has put together so you get a better idea of just what’s going on around here.

Watch as Drew Henry, General Manager of the GeForce product line from NVIDIA and Johan Andersson, the Chief Architect at DICE jointly present the state of PC gaming as seen through the lens of the Battlefield franchise.

It all started in 2002 with the release of Battlefield 1942, a game that many us have fond memories of. When the vintage game was shown on stage, it sent the crowd into a roaring cheer; many continue to play 1942 even as they ready theirmachines for its ultimate successor, Battlefield 3.

When the camera cut to Battlefield 3, it was like fast forwarding ten years into the future. Except the future was the present. The blurry, cartoony world was replaced by an intense, gritty rendering of a refinery complex in the sun parched Middle Eastern desert. The map was Operation Firestorm, one of the largest in the game. All the signature vehicles of Battlefield was on offer, from tanks, jets to helicopters. This map was made exclusively available for play at GeForce LAN. The crowd was jubilant.

Graphics have come a long way since 2002. The flagship GPU at the time of Battlefield 1942 was the GeForce 4600 Ti. Today, it’s the GeForce GTX 580. “Ti” refers to a faster version, and today it’s still available on the GeForce GTX
560, the GPU that DICE recommends for Battlefield 3.

That’s right, we’re on a boat.

New Intense Battlefield 3 Destruction Gameplay Trailer

With Battlefield 3 just a few weeks away, DICE is still pumping out trailer after trailer to build up the hype for this years most anticipated shooter. The new 57 second trailer focuses purely on destruction, so expect shit to go boom! What else is there to say? Watch the trailer soldier!

DICE Producer Hints at Future Bad Company

Three years ago, Battlefield hit the consoles running with the release of Battlefield: Bad Company. In addition to a thrilling new multiplayer game mode called Rush, players were treated to a fantastic single player campaign. The series was continued with Bad Company 2 last year, which a lot people thought was pretty effing awesome. Since then, the Bad Company series has gained a lot of fans and have been clamoring for a sequel.

When asked by The Guardian when we’d get to see Haggard, Sweetwater, and the rest of the crew again, DICE producer Patrick Liu said:

“We haven’t killed Bad Company!” he said. “But we can only make so many games. Be patient – there might be something else coming up…

“We always have a couple of projects going on – some of them die, but some are more fruitful. We don’t have any plans to make Battlefield an annual title –
we want to make it ourselves we don’t want anyone else doing it! And no studio can make an annual franchise by themselves – well, the sports titles can but
they’re a very different breed.”

Battlefield 3 is just a few weeks away, and it’s been promised to have a boatload of DLC. Hopefully, when the Bad Company crew returns for a third outing, we won’t be distracted with Battlefield 3 to take notice.

Full Length Battlefield 3 “99 Problems” TV Ad Goes “Above and Beyond the Call”

EA has released the full length Battlefield 3 TV gameplay ad from their previous teaser shown last week. As usual, the trailer is simply incredible and DICE is really building up the hype for the game.

You could of course buy into the hype, or experience the game yourself when the beta goes live tomorrow for those with early access (Thursday for the rest of the community)

“Above and Beyond the Call…” Yeah, that’s a direct stab at Activision. Well played, EA.

New Battlefield 3 Screens To Drool Over

DICE has released brand new screenshots from Battlefield 3 showcasing missions from the single player portion of the game; Operation Guillotine and Exfiltration, plus one of the games multiplayer maps, Caspian Border.

Yes they’re gorgeous. As if we needed to tell you that… right?

Battlefield 3 Physical Warfare Pack Trailer

EA has released a brand new trailer feature the Physical Warfare Pack for Battlefied 3.

Physical Warfare Pack contains the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun, Type 88 Light Machine Gun, flechette ammo for the DAO-12, and a flash suppressor for the SKS sniper rifle.

This pack is available as a pre-order bonus at select retailers and at Origin for the PC digital download version of Battlefield 3: Limited Edition. At a later date, we will unlock all of these items to all players of Battlefield 3 at no extra charge

Battlefield 3 To Acquire Online Pass

If you planned on buying Battlefield 3 used or renting it from your local shop, you just might want to reconsider if you’re only intent was to play the multiplayer. Executive producer Patrick Bach said players will “probably” have to redeem a registration code included with new copies of the game to access the multiplayer modes.

Bach stated:

“I don’t think it’s an online pass, I think it’s our own backend. I’m not sure I want to call our system an online pass. The whole idea is that we’re paying for servers and if you create a new account there is a big process on how that is being handled in the backend.

We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don’t get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you. We want people to at least pay us something to create this because we’re paying for it. It was actually a loss for us to have new players.

Hopefully people understand why. It’s not to punish people. To us it’s compensation.”

Many gamers frown upon the acts of online passes, and Battlefield 3 may have just handed over it’s chance to overtake Call of Duty. Despite the online pass, we still think Battlefield is too hardcore to overthrown Call of Duty anyway.

Bad Company 2 is one of my favorite console titles, and the fact that you can now experience it on the Xperia Play is pretty damn cool. Check it out!

ModernWarfare3.com is Directing Users to the Battlefield3 Website!

Battlefield 3 vs. Modern Warfare 3 is easily the most heated rivalry this year with EA constantly taking indirect shots at Activison. However, this next move might come as a bit of a surprise.

It’s one thing to talk smack in a interview about your competition, but it appears that someone decided to go straight for the throat this time. Call of Duty fans will be presented with an unpleasant surprise if they happen to stumble across ModernWarfare3.com trying to view their highly anticipated upcoming shooter. Instead of viewing what you attempted to view, you will be redirected to the official website for Battlefield 3!

This isn’t the first time there has been a direct jab taken at the heart of Call of Duty. Last year before launching their highly anticipated Battlefield: Bad Company 2, EA had launched UltimatePresitge.com that provided insider information on weapons, vehicles and map information. There’s only one problem. You actually had to have played Modern Warfare 2 to even access the site. I must say, if it was indeed them… well played EA, well played.

Battlefield Heroes Getting Classic Map And Party Packs

To celebrate the game’s second anniversary and the surpassing of 8 million players worldwide, EA has something special in store for all Battlefield Heroes players.

Wake Island,one of the Battlefield franchise’s most popular maps is coming to Battlefield Heroes later this month. Players who also log in between now and July 8th by 4pm EST will receive two free Party Packs: one Royal and one National. Each Party Pack will include 77 Battlefunds, 25 Festive Flares, a permanent exclusive Party Hat, and a 7 day rental to play in a “Birthday Suit”.

This 66 Year Old Loves Battlefield

At the ripe old age of 66, most people would be settling down with friends and family. A normal day would include gardening, lawn bowls and perhaps a cup of tea in the afternoon. “Wacko Jacko” is no ordinary 66 year old, sure he touches up his garden now and then, but by night he’s obliterating players on Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Check out this new and impressive gameplay/cinematic trailer just released for EA’s upcoming (and awesome looking) series reboot; “Battlefield 3″.

Displaying some gameplay previously seen plus some never before seen gameplay this trailer definitely impresses and gets me even more excited for what is shaping up to be some serious Game of the Year quality.

The tank and fighter jet footage has really got me hyped up for some Battlefield 2-esque arcade action!

Battlefield 3 Could Handle 256 Players

DICE CEO Patrick Söderlund has said that while Battlefield 3 could handle 256 players, we won’t see it happen.

“A lot of people ask us about 64 versus 128 or 256 players. Technically, we can go to 256, we’ve tried it,” he said, in a recent interview. “[On PC] We’re gonna support 64 players, dedicated servers… that’s basically it.”

“We play tested with 128. You’ve got to make a game that’s fun to play. And, arguably, we think that the most fun you can have is when it’s between 32 and 40 players. And we’ve done substantial research into this and tested 128 and that it’s not fun. Maybe we haven’t done our design work good enough, but we just feel like there’s no point in going higher than 64.”

He also made note of the fact that the new engine is much better at handling destruction mechanics:

“So if an earthquake—I don’t know if you could see—but you saw the ground crumble and crack and you saw it lifted up and we couldn’t do that in Bad Company 2. But this engine allows us to do those kinds of things. So if there’s a gigantic bomb that hits somewhere, you want to see that affecting the ground as well as the surroundings around it and buildings and all that stuff. And then you start playing in that environment and you realise how much you can destroy.”

The power of this engine is obviously impressive- assuming that modders can get to grips with it we might see some really impressive stuff happening.

All we’ve seen of Battlefield 3 so far is very little… That being said it’s still enough to get me giddy with anticipation and excitement, and these three latest screenshots do even more to get me excited for the long awaited installment in the Battlefield series.
