Bioshock 2 Protector Trials DLC Coming to PC March 14th

2K have announced that the Bioshock 2 DLC “The Protector Trials” will be coming to PC on March 14th. That’s tomorrow!

It’s free DLC, too, so there’s reason for every Bioshock 2 owner on PC to fire the thing back up. 2K say they’re “still working on Minerva’s Den” and will make an announcement at some point in the future.

Patch Notes

- Fixed unlocalized text in Customize Controls screen.
- Player mouse functionality no longer drops out when the Video Card Driver Warning appears.
- User.ini no longer overwritten when game loads. This should address mouse sensitivity issues as well as many v-sync option bugs.

New Bioshock Infinite Gameplay Teaser Looks Slick and Refreshing

Finally out from under the sea (the place to be?). Seeing bright colors and sunlight is definitely new to the Bioshock series and boy does it look nice. Leaving dark and dreary Rapture for a city in the sky is possibly one of the best directions Irrational Games could take the series.

Watch this gameplay demo teaser broadcast on GTTV last night and take a nice breath of fresh air.

Bioshock 2 Single-Player DLC ‘Minerva’s Den’ Announced

Bioshock 2 publisher 2K Games has announced today that the game will be getting some new Single-player DLC, which the publisher describes as “narrative-driven.”

The DLC will be coming to PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in the Autumn, and is described as “a self-contained narrative experience” with “an all-new character.”

You’ll be helping Brigid Tenenbaum to “uncover the dark secrets hidden in its founder’s past” in a new area of Rapture, with the aid of “new high-tech weaponry and a devastating new Plasmid.” You’ll be facing off against splicers and security bots and a new type of Big Daddy.”

“Minerva’s Den is a substantial addition that will give players more of what they’re looking for: more story, more narrative, more gameplay and more of Rapture,” said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. “The core team has created an exciting product that further enhances the mystery and allure of the world of Rapture. Minerva’s Den will be a fitting conclusion to the BioShock 2 saga.”

If this DLC is anything like as good as the single-player DLC for Borderlands was, then Bioshock 2 fans should be looking forward to this. Let us know what you think in the comments.

New Bioshock 2 Protector Trials DLC Incoming and Screenshots

2K Games recently announced the launch of the newest downloadable content for their award winning title Bioshock 2. Set to put players in the role of a Big Daddy defending his Little Sister against swarms of hyped up ADAM-crazed splicers, it is sure to put players to the ultimate test.

Available for download on August 3rd, this post launch content will give players access to six levels featured in the single player story. Gamers the world over will also have full access to the destructive underwater arsenal of Bishock 2 in order to help them most effectively dispatch their foes. To balance out the new challenge is three new and unique difficulty levels for when the going gets tough. Your reward? 7 new achievements and trophies plus a bunch of never before seen concept art and developer videos.

The big issue is cost though, and the Protector Trials weigh in at a very nice $4.99 USD on the Playstation 3 and 400MSP on the Xbox 360. Check out two screenshots of the upcoming content below;

Rumour: 2K to Develop Bioshock MMO

Some sources close to Destructoid (mysterious ones, even) have released ~~the Kraken~~ a rumour suggesting that 2K are developing a Massively Multiplayer Online game based on the Bioshock universe. Considering the best thing about Bioshock is the setting, one can see where the idea has merits.

However, MMOs just don’t work any more. Star Trek Online, for example, is now settling into slight obscurity along with the massive pile of other failed MMOs. World of Warcraft, Eve, Hello Kitty and Everquest just have too much of a monopoly on our money and time. My prediction: if this is real, it will not do well.

BioShock 2 Sinclair Solutions Test Pack DLC Announced

You’re on the couch, plugging away at your BioShock 2 sequel and asking yourself how the experience could be better. It’s got more action, more options … sure, some may say that the story is not as good as the original, but how about a new DLC? See, you’re feeling better already.

2K Games announced the “Sinclair Solutions Test Pack” today, and it’s prepared to take your multiplayer experience to a new level. Max player rank will jump to fifty and rank rewards will also be added. In addition, new weapon upgrades, two new playable characters, five new masks, and twenty new trials (some level limits apply here) will see there way into the game courtesy of this add-on.

You can look to pick this bad boy up for $4.99 (or 400 MS points) on Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network sometime this March. If the single player mode is more your cup of tea, 2K promises new content for that aspect of the game in the near future as well. Sit tight.

Not a bad looking week in new games with BioShock 2 and Dante’s Inferno arriving, along with Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the PS3 and Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll for all you Wii Balance Board owners. The DS gets a little love too this week with Percy Jackson and Scene It? Twilight. The PSP gets no love at all with nothing out this week, which isn’t unusual. BioShock 2 Review Flood Gates Begin To Open

Bioshock 2 System Requirements: Go Away SecuROM, You’re Not Welcome Here

Bioshock 2′s system requirements have been published today, and guess what? Our little friend SecuROM is hidden away, cackling to itself in a way only the most evil beings know how. Alright, there’s no limit on installations this time, but honestly I won’t be happy until SecuROM goes away for good.

By the way, you can pre-order Bioshock 2 on Steam here. It’s 10% off, and comes with a free version of Bioshock (which you can gift to a friend if you already have).

Amazon.com is giving away a PlayStation Home Big Daddy suit for gamers who pre-order the Special Edition BioShock 2 game for the PlayStation 3. Access to the stunning piece of virtual attire will be granted to you via a code you’ll receive within “ten business days” after the game’s release.

All in all, the suit looks nice and I guess you could wear it at the bowling alley along with the seven or so other people that manage to find the time to sign in to Home.

BioShock 2 Will Last At Least 10 Hours

The latest episode of Qore, the PlayStation Network’s subscription based online magazine, reveals that Bioshock 2 will be at least 10 hours in length.

In a Bioshock 2 preview segment, Qore host Veronica Belmont said the following:

“At the start of the game, you wake up a mystery. And for at least the first ten hours or so, you remain a mystery.”

At first I wondered if she meant 10 hours in game time, but that really wouldn’t mean anything to us at this point because we don’t know how the game time unfolds. I assume she must be talking about play time.

Bioshock 2 hits PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on February 9th.

Talented Bioshock 2 Fan Artist Ben Mauro Made It Big, 2K’s Loss Is Insomniac’s Gain

Way back in March of 2008, we reported on a pretty impressive Bioshock 2 fan art collection by then student Ben Mauro. The art was so well done that it caught the attention of 2K Games Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey. That was just the beginning for a kid who “never expected anything to come” from his school assignment.

Shortly after discovering our post, Elizabeth contacted us asking how she and 2K could “track down the artist, and thank him for his work”. We happily helped out and suggested they thank him by offering him a job. In fact, my exact words were:

“I’d love to be able to report that this talented kid was able to land something with your team. Even if it is just an internship. He is very talented and humble as well.

When I told him you were looking to contact him he seemed shocked and said he never expected anything to come out of his assignment.”

A few months later I shot an email over to Elizabeth asking if they ever pulled the trigger on hiring Ben. She responded letting me know that they “didn’t hire him or anything but he did get some big kudos from [the team].”

Unfortunately, kudos don’t pay the bills. As it turns out though, Ben got his break anyway. According to his updated blog, portfolio site, LinkedIn profile, and countless other social networking interweb devices sure to be monitored from this point forward by news hungry bloggers, Ben is working on some pretty exciting game related projects.

Two projects under the client “Insomniac Games” titled “RCF2″ (most likely likely Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time) and “R3″ (guessing Resistance 3 on this one), recently caught the attention of Joystiq’s Ludwig Kietzmann. Ludwig then proceeded to contact “the parties concerned” at which point Ben wisely removed the info from his personal blog.

Well, I’m happy to say that I finally got to report on the successful hiring of Ben Mauro. Sure, it wasn’t for 2K as I had originally hoped, but as the title says, 2k’s loss is Insomniac’s gain. On that note, I look forward to the possibility of stomping around in a Ratchet & Clank Future 2 or Resistance 3 Ben Mauro inspired level with weapons blazing.

Congratulations Ben, you deserve it.

Bioshock 2 coming February 2010

2K Games have today announced that the hotly anticipated Bioshock 2 will be releasing on the 9th of February 2010. The release date will be the same for all platforms: PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

I’ll quickly take this opportunity to remind our PC gaming fans that Direct2Drive are offering the original Bioshock for just $5/£5 for the next few days. Get it if you haven’t played it, and finish it. Then maybe you’ll be as excited as the rest of us that it’s only six months until the sequel arrives. Actually, when I put it like that, six months sounds like ages.

The first in a series of artists to create pieces for Bioshock 2, Invader Zim and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac creator Jhonen Vasquez has produced this wonderful picture entitled “The Sisters”. “I approached Jhonen Vasquez a few months back and asked him to create an image for BioShock 2 that represented the game, its characters, and the atmosphere of the city,” says 2K’s community manager of the project.

Head here for more pictures and a full explanation by Vasquez. Also, the large version can be found here. It’s a great picture, and has a certain Tim Burton-esque quality to it, obviously with the trademark creepy Zim eyes. More artists to come in the run-up to the game’s release.

Bioshock 2 coming November 3 in US, October 30 in Europe

Take-Two have announced that Bioshock 2 will be released on November the third for Northern Americans, and on October the thirtieth for Europeans, on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. This of course means that the spoilers will hit the web a good four days before people from the US will be able to play the game. I suggest you stay away from the internet during those four days, especially if you don’t want to know that Atlas is f- actually, you can come to Ripten. We won’t spoil it. We promise.

Gamespot have scored an exclusive Bioshock 2 feature and interview, which includes a lot of info on the upcoming game. You can see the video interview after the jump, and read all about the game over at Gamespot. Some interesting details have come up, including some insights into the way the game was conceived and designed, as well as some game info that I won’t list for fear of spoilers.

As a game which seems like it will be best enjoyed without knowing the whole plot, my suggestion is that if you want a fresh game experience (especially the story), ignore all this incoming information. I will say that Bioshock 2, from what we’ve seen so far, is looking like it will be a great game. Perhaps the fact that there’s not much new gameplay wise might put some off, but they’re not fixing what ain’t broke, I reckon.

First Bioshock 2 footage

Above is the first footage of Bioshock 2 to hit the airwaves. The footage shows the player as a Big Daddy, with both the rivet gun and the drill, as well as plasmids. Big Sister is shown, as well as the ability to walk around underwater (you are in a diving suit, after all), but you would know that if you’d watched the video. I must say, it does look like it’s going to be great fun to play. I’m rather looking forward to the release after seeing this footage. Just don’t mess up the story, 2K!

The next episode of GameTrailers TV, airing this Thursday night at 12:30 PM, will be epic featuring the premier gameplay of BioShock 2 featuring none other than the Big Sisters, a “major announcement” and look at what’s next to come for Killzone 2, an announcement for PuncOut on the Wii by Reggie Fils-Aime, and Peter Molyneux drops in to give us the first video for the upcoming Fable II downloadable content.

Wow. This is going to be one great show.

April Issue of Game Informer Gives Us First Look at Bioshock 2′s Big Sister

Although we’ve known about the existence of “Big Sisters” in Bioshock 2 for a little less than a week, (thanks to Bioshock 2′s teaser site) seeing the Big Sister now is still a sight to behold, thanks to the April issue of Game Informer. Who says print is dead?

The April issue of GI, while also chock full of Dead Space: Extraction and RE5 details, has a 10-page cover story on Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams details, including new information, new screenshots, and the first glimpse at the game’s Big Sister, who appears to be more slender and more threatening than the Big Daddies. (even with the cute wittle cage for the cute wittle sisters)
