Not too much has changed from last year, except more single format games higher up the list. The majority of these are of course titles for Nintendo’s Wii and DS, notably Brain Training taking the second place prize. That is, even though the game’s creator, Dr Ryuta Kawashima, says he hasn’t made a single yen from the game. Halo 3 places well, but not at the staggering heights that were reached in the US.

However, the top 50 are littered with re-offenders, from Fifa to Pro Evolution Soccer, Mario Party and Call of Duty. Original IP’s are few and far between, with notable mentions being Assassin’s Creed, Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm and Wii Play. We would have liked to have seen more of Bioshock, Ratchet and Clank Future, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Mass Effect.
