Chelsea here, posting a bit of news for John, who currently has his hands full with SingSterling. What is SingSterling? Why, it is Destructoid editor Jim Sterling’s 24-hour SingStar sing-a-thon for charity of course!

Right now Jim has only raised about half of the amount he’s aiming for, so he’ll only be singing for 12 hours. However, if the full $5,000 is raised before the end of the 12 hours, he’ll not only keep singing for the full 24 but also complete his singing marathon with Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

As if that wasn’t incentive enough, Ripten.com’s own John Kershaw seems to have joined in on a bit of the fun. He’s there to live stream the whole ordeal and grab the second SingStar mic for some duets. If you ever wanted to see John belt out some 80’s tunes, now’s the time. And there will be plenty of music to pick from, seeing as John went out last night and bought a copy of every available version of SingStar.

Help this fundraiser by donating to help the Texas Pediatric Center fight against pediatric cancer! Your money goes to two good causes: fighting pediatric cancer and causing Jim to go mute from singing.

What are you waiting for? Donate Now!

Then tell her it’s for a good cause (and you won’t be lying). costumestudio.com, launched by Seattle-based outfitter GoodSociety, is planning on donating 100% of the profits from their costumes sales to help children in Uganda. Buying the “Pretty Pink Princess” costume above would set you back about $60, but one third of that goes straight to a noble cause. Being charitable never looked so good.

With Halloween just around the corner and with a projected $5 billion in holiday sales, the charitable folks at GoodSociety are hoping to help out a lot of needy children.

“We did the quick math,” says Fashion Director Quang Dinh, “five billion dollars would feed over one hundred million starving children for an entire year. I love Halloween more than most, but something needed to be done.”

The site itself is quite impressive. As I was browsing the 500+ women’s costumes, I saw a lot of outfits I’ve never seen before. Their Jessica Rabbit costume is amazing, and I am unbelievably tempted to drop the $100 for the pleasure of walking around all night as a sexy, red-headed vixen with Furry tendencies (I mean, she did marry a rabbit).

The kid’s and men’s costumes are a bit less expensive, so don’t be discouraged by some of the high price tags on the women’s costumes (though all women’s costumes tend to be pricey, no matter where you go). Again, their selection is HUGE and they have plenty of options for those of you who want something strictly game or nerd-culture related.

Don’t let the kids hog all of the Halloween charity spirit with their trick-or-treating UNICEF boxes. Simply buy a Halloween costume from CostumeStudio.com and give yourself a pat on the back for helping out those in need.

Ever wanted to end world hunger? Here’s your chance to start, with just 20 grains of rice at a time.

FreeRice.org is an online vocabulary test (and ego booster, if you’re good with words). It’s pretty simple– you’re given a word, and then asked to pick the correct synonym out of four choices. Eventually you’ll reach the point when you realize you must take prefixes and suffixes, vaguely determine what they mean, and then make a not-so-educated guess.

For every word you get right, 20 grains of rice are donated to the UN World Food program. It’s not much at first, but if you play for long enough you’ll make a significant contribution.

Even if you are terrible with words, go ahead – cheat. All you’re doing is helping end world hunger is all, no biggie. And nobody will call you foul words and/or names for cheating in this particular game, we promise.

When you look at how many grains have been donated, it’s really quite impressive and now when I’m slacking, I can just tell everyone to leave me alone because I’m ending world hunger.

Every now and then when you read about someone performing a selfless, heart warming act of kindness, it just sort of makes you feel like a jerk. Such is the case with 11-year-old Tyler Strasser, who’s been helping out those in need since he was a young toddler in diapers. Scratch that; since he was young toddler who walked home naked because he gave his diaper to someone in need.

Tyler recently held a toy drive in Ballantyne Village, North Carolina, to help disadvantaged kids have a happy holiday and he offered up a Nintendo Wii, possibly this holiday season’s hottest item, to bring in more donations. Everyone who donated would get a raffle ticket that got them a spot in a Wii Sports Bowling tournament. The winner of that tournament would then walk away with Nintendo’s coveted gaming system.

Tyler’s been helping people since he was three and he’s now expanded his reach to military families and those serving overseas. Some will inevitably argue that the kid is doing it for attention, fame, yadda yadda, but does it really matter? He’s changing the lives of a lot of people, so whatever he’s getting out of it shouldn’t matter, you Negative Nancies.

Videogame consoles are a baa-d Christmas gift according to Oxfam America, an organization dedicated to helping poverty-stricken families in developing nations. Sheep top their list of potential presents.

According to a new press release:

This year, Oxfam America Unwrapped urged holiday shoppers nationwide to put down potentially dangerous Wii remotes and instead give the gift that keeps on giving: fluffy sheep. Sheep are the top-selling offering of 53 alternative gifts available on www.OxfamAmericaUnwrapped.com that help the fight against poverty worldwide.

In the developing world, sheep allow women to create their own income – and the wool is used to make local textiles.

I don’t see what the big deal is. You can’t “waggle” a sheep, or play Mario Galaxy on it; and it most certainly doesn’t come with a copy of Shiip Sports. Grandma will be disappointed without her bowling, though it may remind her of the old days on the family farm when the only game to be played was “The Fall Crop Failed, So How Are We Going To Live Through The Long, Harsh Winter?”

Plus wool is really itchy.

Seriously, though, it’s a pretty good cause and it’s only $45 an animal! That’s like a copy of Carnival Games or something (and you’re sparing yourself a sad Christmas morning, to boot)!

Faced with Nintendo’s runaway success, sheep may not win the console wars, but buying one for a needy family can help win the one on poverty.
Got a few hundred dollars laying around? Wishing to enlarge that gamer heart of yours, three times too small? Why not donate that cash to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles? If generosity isn’t enough to crack the ice around your ticker, how about a chance to play Sony Santa Monica’s “Unannounced Title?”

Of course, I think we all know that probably means God of War 3. In addition to testing a portion of the game before just about anybody else does, you and a friend get to spend a day touring the famed development studio, as well as having some face time with key staff members. Visit to Disneyland with Kratos not included.

If you’re interested in placing a bid, though (it’s currently at $375), you can head over to the entry on Charity Folks. The auction ends on December 5th, so donate as soon as possible! Just think of how happy you’ve made some needy kids the next time you rip a minotaur’s head off!
