Sony Blamed for Missing Super Street Fighter IV Costumes

The PS3 version of Super Street Fighter has one major deficiency – when fighting online against someone with a DLC costume, unless you’ve purchased the costume, you can’t see it. This is a problem the Xbox 360 version doesn’t have.

This has been explained as a free download on XBOX Live known as a “Catalog” update. Catalog updates have never appeared on the PlayStation 3 and, as explained by Seth Killian on the official Capcom forum, bandwidth appears to be the problem:

Took a while to track this one down for you while everyone was on holiday, but here’s the gist of it:

The DLC for the newest costumes is additional data that must be put on your machines from the first-party networks (XBL and PSN). When you add new data to an existing product, there are significant costs to do so charged by the first parties. On XBL, those costs were covered by Microsoft. As a result, the data is distributed to everyone, so even if you have not bought the new costumes, you can still see them if you’re fighting against someone that has because you still received the new data required to display them.

For Sony, those significant costs are not covered. As a result, you only get the new costume data when you actually buy the costumes. Those that don’t buy the costumes can’t see them, because the new costume data isn’t present on your machine, and so you only see costumes you already have the data to represent.

The story is a bit more complicated because the costs of adding new data vary by region in some cases, and some additions are free, or free within a certain timeframe, etc., but the bottom line in this particular case is that Sony would charged Capcom significant fees for distributing the new costume data to users that hadn’t actually bought the DLC. Microsoft covered those costs, so the costume data is visible to all there. I wish it were the same all around, but hope this info helps.

Hmmm. Obviously, the issue comes down to the fact that with Xbox this is paid by Xbox live fees, while the PSN has no such costs. Worth it?

Unlockable: Rewards for Series Veterans

Depending on how you played TFU 1, these are the ways you are rewarded in the sequel:

If you have a save on your hard drive from The Force Unleashed you will unlock Training Gear.
If you beat Force Unleashed (I) with the Light Side Ending, you will unlock Ceremonial Jedi Robes.
If you beat Force Unleashed (I) with the Dark Side Ending, you will unlock Sith Stalker Armor.

Unlockable: Guybrush Threepkiller Costume

In the 2nd Chapter you will come across a bar/casino room. At the end the room it will fill up with fog and you will have to fight a shielded mech. In the next room (after blasting the concrete wall that the shielded mech put up) you will come across a small room with a hologram of Jabba the Hut. Just under him are three slot machines. Bust em’ up and collect your costume.

Bonus costumes

Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding costume:

General Kota: Get a Silver medal in the “Deadly Path Trial” challenge.

Saber Guard: Get a Silver medal in the “Cloning Spire Trial” challenge.

Terror Trooper: Get a Silver medal in the “Terror Trial” challenge.

Easy Force Points

In the first level when you stop running away from the gunship, you will die and get Force Points. The save point at this location makes it easy to get infinite Force Points. Use a rubber band on your controller to force your character to always run. After dying, your character will begin running again and repeat the cycle automatically. Allow the game to idle in this state for easy Force Points.

Dead Rising 2 DLC + Costumes Announced and Detailed

Dead Rising 2 has become quite the Zombie killing hit. We at Ripten definitley liked it, read our review. And Now Capcom has announced 4 new DLC packs with new costumes and Ripten is here to give you all the information you need.

Just when you thought you’ve dressed Chuck in every outfit imaginable, Capcom’s Europe has announced four new downloadable content (DLC) Theme Packs that will include a host of new skills, weapons and some great new looks for Chuck. In the next few weeks, Dead Rising 2 players will get a chance to dress up Chuck as either an insane Psychopath, a sleek ninja, a crazy sports fanatic or a kick-ass soldier.

Psychopath Theme Pack: Available from October 12 (XBLA) and October 13 (PSN)
Psycho Chuck will be a zombie’s worst nightmare as his new “insane” look will make him more difficult to kill and give him a host of gruesome weapons including chainsaws, cleavers, axes and more. Zombies won’t stand a chance!

Soldier of Fortune Theme Pack: Available from October 19 (XBLA) and October 20 (PSN)
With the soldier costume, you can “Rambo out” with double ammo, increased shooting accuracy, more firepower and headshot accuracy increased. Chuck will also have a new special attack when using automatic weapons, spraying zombies with a hail of bullets.

Sports Theme Pack: Available from October 26 (XBLA) and October 27 (PSN)
For all you sports fans out there, this pack’s for you. Chuck’s damage will increase with sports-themed weapons. The new sports weapons (golf balls, basketballs, etc.) bounce more before stopping, allowing you to hit more zombies. Chuck also has a new charge/tackle attack for taking zombies down in the ultimate blitz! With the Sports Theme Pack, Chuck will also earn more from gambling, gain more health while eating and drinking (especially alcoholic drinks) and not get sick from drinking too much…

Ninja Theme Pack: Available from November 2 (XBLA) and November 3 (PSN)
Ninja Chuck will have a new “stealth mode” where the zombies have to be much closer to him to detect his presence. This gives Chuck the upper hand as he is harder to grab and be taken down by hoards of the undead. Chuck’s damage is increased with sword-type weapons (broadswords, katanas, etc.) that have new special attacks. Stackable items and throwing items (nails, plates, gems, etc.) will also do more damage and Chuck’s throwing speed is increased.

Sonic The Sackboy: LittleBigPlanet Goes Hedgehog with DLC Costume Pack

Sony and Sega are teaming up to skin one beloved icon with the blue spikey exterior of another. According to the pages of PlayStation’s Hong Kong site, costumes for Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, Werehog and Dr. Eggman will be available in that region on December 17th. We will most likely see them release here in the States as well, but nothing official points to it just yet.

Why not? It seems the best way to promote your game today is to dress up Media Molecule’s lead character as that of your own. If you’re a fan of the Capcom fighting series, you will apparently be able to pick up the character costumes shown above individually and as a package deal. No word on price or release date just yet. Sit tight.

TGS 08: LittleBigPlanet Gets Solid Snake and Sephiroth Sackboy Costumes

The LittleBigPlanet game you may have heard a thing or two about lately is getting some more costumes for their dashing lead man. Sony’s Official PlayStation Blog announced that Solid Snake (Old Snake) and Sephiroth (from Final Fantasy VII) digs were confirmed for LBP moments ago on the Tokyo Game Show floor.

While the PlayStation blog itself makes no mention of pricing or planned method of distribution, a translated announcement made on the SCEI website points to the costumes being sold worldwide as downloadable content via the PSN.
