Call of Duty Elite Releasing Third Xbox 360 Map, PS3 Owners Still Waiting for First

Modern Warfare 3 players REJOICE! But only if you have Call of Duty Elite, and only if you play the game on the Xbox.

On February 21st, Premium Members will be able to access the third map, Overwatch, which is next in the line up for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3′s Content Season for Call of Duty Elite. This third map will be available to Xbox Live Members with the Premium subscription a full week before PlayStation 3 owners even get the first map. PC? No word on that; nor when Call of Duty Elite will be available for that platform, so uncross your fingers and exhale, otherwise you will get arthritis and die.

Overwatch will be set at a construction site atop a New York City skyscraper. Featuring two levels and a near symmetrical layout, a central bridge and side routes will allow players to approach from multiple angles, while the lack of safety barriers will make it easy for you to belly flop onto the pavement if you don’t watch your step.

While Xbox Premium members are getting what looks to be all the content first, Activision states that PS3 Premium members will get the content before non Premium members. Somewhere down the road, those that didn’t sign up for the service, or who are PC gamers will get the content, maybe, one day….Okay, so no one really knows when the hell that will be, but the standard has been about a month apart for each platform. So, sometime in March PC gamers might expect the DLC, at full price.

Forza 4 “American Le Mans Series Pack” Available Today

A new DLC pack for Forza 4, the “American Le Mans Series Pack”, is available from today.

The car pack focuses- as you might expect- on Le Mans cars, but there are some others in the mix too. A modified luxury car, an “E3 award winner,” and some proper old fashioned muscle are also in the lineup:

·         2011 #2 Audi Sport North America R18 TDI: Featuring a closed cockpit design (the first such Audi Le Mans car fielded in more than 10 years), the R18 is a marvel of modern racing design. Featuring a lighter materials and a premium on aerodynamic efficiency, it’s little wonder the R18 TDI brought home top honors during the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans.
·         2011 Panoz #050 Panoz Racing Abruzzi: A five hundred horsepower engine that will feel right at home tearing down the straights of Le Mans, the Panoz Racing Abruzzi’s tusk-like front end marries unique styling with impressive performance.
·         2010 Dodge Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Challenger SRT8: Owned by UFC fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, this 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 is one of the most aggressive-looking cars ever seen in the Forza Motorsport series. With red and black rims that need to be seen to be believed, this Challenger will turn heads in Forza 4 the moment the race begins.
·         1991 Mazda #55 Team Mazdaspeed 787B: One of the most unique sounding cars in Forza 4, the Wankel rotary engine-equipped 787B is also legendary for its performance. It won the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans race and the model was soon retired after FIA rules changes subsequently banned the use of Wankel-type rotary engines.

·         2011 Holden HSV GTS: More power, better handling, and new technology are all hallmarks of Holden’s 2011 HSV GTS. The car’s MRC suspension brings a responsive ride in the corners that, when coupled with the 6.2 liter V8, makes the GTS a joy to drive.
·         2011 Volkswagen Polo GTI: A great-looking hatchback with surprising grit underneath the hood, the 2011 Polo GTI packs a 1.4 liter twin charged engine combining both a turbocharger and a supercharger, belting out an impressive 177 horsepower in a compact size.

Dungeon Defenders Boasts 1 Million Paid Downloads

Reverb Publishing proudly announced today that Dungeon Defenders has sold 1 million paid downloads since its launch in October 2011 through Steam, PSN and XBLA

In a conversation with Joystiq, Reverb CEO Doug Kennedy excitedly exclaimed,

“It is tremendously successful franchise, we have lots of plans to support it both with DLC and additional add-ons for the franchise.”

Plans are in motion for DLC for the PC version of Dungeon Defenders. Unfortunately, such plans do not exist for console versions.

Possible Battlefield 3 DLC Announcement Next Week

We earlier reported that Battlefield 3 has been very successful for EA, and as is the norm these days for successful FPS’, more downloadable content (DLC) is incoming.

During an investors call, EA VP of Investor Relations Peter C. Ausnit said, ”You’re going to hear some announcements from us on Battlefield actually as early as next week in an event we’ve got in New York.”

While Ausnit didn’t offer any other details, it’s been heavily rumored that the new expansion/map is the “All American” DLC; a map pack which consists of all-new fighting places such as: New York, Miami, San Francisco and more. It is titled “All American” for a reason, after all.

If true, hopefully it’s not just a map pack but an expansion – complete with new weapons, vehicles, Achievements/Trophies and more.

The latest DLC for Battlefield 3 has been Back to Karkand, an expansion that was offered free for those who bought the game’s limited edition.

Does the All American DLC sound good to you or would you rather they make an expansion sequel to Battlefield: 2142?

Modern Warfare 3 DLC Hits PS3 February 28 for Elite Members

Activision has finally let Sony and its PS3 into the Modern Warfare 3 DLC club, or, at least the bouncer has given them an estimated seating time. The first map pack for Modern Warfare 3, which includes Piazza and Liberation, will finally be available on PS3 on February 28. That is, for Call of Duty: Elite members. So if you’re not one of those people, then you get to wait even longer! How ridiculous it is that not only does PS3 have to wait for the maps, even the people who are paying a bunch of money to get things early still have to wait. Oh man. How silly.

At the very least, Activision has put out a nice resource for people who are looking to know when maps and missions are coming out for Modern Warfare 3 in the form of their content calendar. Stare at it while you PS3-players wait another four weeks for your maps.

FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 Launch Trailer and Future DLC Detailed

Square-Enix‘s Goal with Final Fantasy XIII-2 is to bring the series back to its’ former glory by fixing some of the problems from FFXIII. The launch trailer is about what you would expect from a Final Fantasy trailer: colorful and detailed graphics, a solid musical score, and overdone Japanese characters. Which is not to say it is bad, just what you would expect.

What came with the trailer in the press release is what is interesting: details on future DLC. The first DLC is titled Lightning & Amodar which will be available for on February 7th for Xbox Live and February 8th on PSN. This DLC will include a Coliseum where players can fight characters from previous Final Fantasy titles and, once defeated, can be enlisted into the player’s party.

Future DLC will give players the opportunity to explore secrets through story episodes for some of the other key characters to compliment and fill in the story of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Specific details and release dates have not been disclosed.

In addition, there will be opportunity to explore the game’s secrets through story episodes for some of the key characters, such as Lightning which complement the narrative of FINAL FANTASY XIII-2. New Video Game Releases: Jan. 30 – Feb. 6

Finally, a 2012 release week with notable anticipated releases. With offerings from such storied franchises such as Final Fantasy, SoulCalibur in addition to inspired DLC and a new IP release has January ending on a high note.

It can easily be said that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the highest profile release of the week. While the series’ image is not quite what it was due to recent disappointments, FFXIII-2 adds a revamped combat system and promises less linear gameplay. Will it be enough? Find out this week as it releases for both Xbox 360 and PS3.

SoulCalibur V picks up 17 years after the events of SoulCalibur IV with new heroes and returning warriors clashing in an epic showdown between good and evil. This latest offering brings new charter customization and combat features including a new gauge that allows characters to execute “Brave Edge” and “Critical Edge” attacks. SoulCalibur V will be available on PS3 and 360.

NeverDead is a third-person action game set in a fantasy and horror-influenced universe where supernatural battles between humans and extraordinary creatures blanket a vast city landscape. The main character has immortalic regenerative powers re-assembling his own body to evade death. In the battle against demons he stands as humanities’ best hope because he is never dead. NeverDead creeps into retail on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Dead Island fans will no doubt relish the return to the fateful Island with Ryder White DLC. The DLC will a offer a different perspective on antagonist Ryder White, enabling gamers to understand his motives by stepping into his shoes. It releases on the PC, 360 and PS3.

OOOOOH YEEEAAH! Some of the most beloved WWE superstars of yesteryear return to the Legends and SuperStars Pack DLC for WWE’12. With great wrestlers like Mick Folley and Randy Savage on the roster, it would be madness not to get this for the PS3 or Xbox 360.

Pick of the Week: I’m definitely interested in SoulCalibur V, with all the extra features and fighters. But I want to give Final Fantasy XIII-2 a chance. I still have found memories of FF games of generations past which weren’t completely tarnished by the crapfest of XIII. Square-Enix, this is your last chance – Final Fantasy XIII-2

Soul Calibur V DLC Schedule Revealed, Tons of Customization Items and Music

Soul Calibur V, latest in the long line of Namco’s weaponized fighting game, will be releasing just around the corner on January 31. One might think it’s easy street after that, but there’s another corner the following Friday upon which the first DLC will be released. In the coming weeks, as listed below, two more DLC packs will be released, each priced at 160 Microsoft Points, and each containing nine customization items and music from other Soul Calibur games since the dawn of time.

Lovers of the Soul Calibur franchise should rejoice at this, and haters of DLC should be equally glad that they won’t miss out on any new characters introduced as DLC like a game in recent history involving two major franchises fighting each other in three-person teams. This is a good deal, and players won’t have to wait long for it either.

DLC 1: February 3

Nine exotic-themed customisation items, including bikinis wings and face paints.
Original music from Soul Blade and Soul Calibur. Tracks will also be available to purchase individually at €0.99/80 Microsoft Points.

DLC 2: February 14

Nine fearsome customisation items, including breast plate, kimono and animal heads.

Rock Band 3 Music Store Adds Tears for Fears and Sum 41 Singles

On January 31st, you’ll be able to give your PlayStation, Wii, and Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 3 a fat lip then stand there waiting for it to fall head over heals. The thee singles below are making their way to the Rock Band Music Store:

Dead Island Ryder White Trailer is Bloody, Gives Some Backstory

Deep Silver released a trailer to showcase the upcoming Dead Island Ryder White DLC. The DLC will offer a different perspective on antagonist Ryder White, enabling gamers to understand his motives.

The trailer below shows a little of his backstory with details of his mission and how he got stuck on the island. Dead Island Ryder White DLC will be available February 1st for 800 MSP or $9.99 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Steam.

Deep Silver today released a trailer showing the brand new story DLC “Ryder White” for the award-winning game Dead Island. The DLC will will be available early next week.

New Modern Warfare 3 Maps Available Today for CoD: Elite Members

Two new maps, Liberation and Piazza, will be available today for Call of Duty Elite members on Xbox Live.

The release of these maps marks the start of a “content release season” for Elite members, with more content coming over the next 9 months (then a beautiful new baby Call of Duty will be born).

Liberation is a militarized Central Park, and is suited to long-range: sniper and LMG users. The map brings back mounted turrets (there’s only 1 in the vanilla game) on opposing ends of the map.

Piazza is set in an idyllic seaside village, “where blind corners and a complex network of branching pathways pose danger at every turn.” As opposed to Liberation, this map is much more close-quarters and has a more vertical layout.

Dreadnought DLC Stomping Over to Space Marine Next Week

If you’re still playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, you’ll be happy to hear that there’ll be a second DLC pack coming soon. The “Dreadnought” pack adds a new multiplayer mode called Dreadnought Assault. Teams will capture central locations on a map, where the winners get a player controlled Dreadnought armed withAssault/Auto Cannons, a Meltagun, and a Power Fist/Claw. Also included in the pack are three multiplayer maps: Desolation, Dome Mechanicus, and Chem Refinery. Last but not least will be new Achievements and Trophies and a free multiplayer Capture and Control mode.

The “Dreadnought” DLC arrives January 25 for 800 MSP on the 360 and $9.99 on the PSN and PC.

New Uncharted 3 DLC Incoming – Skins and Multiplayer Maps

Today, Naugty Dog revealed four new multiplayer maps for Uncharted 3. The four maps are Cave, Fort, Lost City, and Sanctuary from Uncharted 2, but with technical changes and new particle and dynamic lighting effects. If you’re a member of the Fortune Hunters’ Club, you’ll snag the four maps for free. Non-members will currently have to wait to find out how much the maps will cost.

Naughty Dog also mentioned new DLC for the future. The Rogues 1 and Rogues 2 packs will let you play as major thugs and minor characters from Uncharted 3′s single player campaign. The Donut 1 Pack will make characters giant size. You know, because they’ve been cramming donuts instead of treasure hunting. Exactly when the maps and skins will be available is unknown, but the DLC is promised to not stop there. As a tease, Naughty Dog put up this picture:

Dead Island ‘Ryder White’ Story DLC Announced – Screens and Details

Deep Silver has announced new story DLC for Dead Island, which allows gamers to play out the story of Ryder White.

The DLC will focus on what Ryder had been doing in the events before and during the Dead Island campaign, and it shows his dual identities as a military man and a loving husband.

The content will bring with it several new hours of new content under a playable Ryder, as well as two new blueprints and weapons. It’s being billed as a single player campaign.

Ryder White DLC will be available on February 1 on Xbox Live, PSN and Steam.

New Video Game Releases: Jan. 16 – Jan. 22

The desolate winter season of new releases continues with such a sparse release week that if I were to not include DLC, would only have a total of three measly releases.

The big release this week is ScaryGirl on XBLA. Based on Nathan Jurevicius’ Scarygirl graphic novel, Scarygirl presents a wondrous adventure into a distinctive and beautifully bizarre world. Main character Scarygirl is an abandoned child with a tentacle arm who dresses like a pirate. Joining with friends such as Blister the giant octopus and Bunniguru the mystical, kung-fu rabbit she sets out on an off-beat adventure.

The other full game releases include Jungle Speed for the Wii and What’s Your Type? for the DS. Jungle speed is a twitchy, fast-paced card game while What’s Your Type? is an interesting game that helps you predict you and your friends’ personalities, using a combination of proven scientific methodologies.

This week we get DLC for major games like Gears of War 3, Saints Row The Third and Gran Turismo 5. Gears of War 3 gets the Fenix Rising Map Pack. Gran Turismo 5 gets two new DLC packs with the Car Pack 3 and the Spped Test Pack. Saints Row fans can go Genki crazy with the Genki Bowl VIII or go cheap with the free CheapyD Pack.

Pick of the Week: An Easy Pick actually. ScaryGirl wins almost simply by default. It’s off-beat style and interesting story should captivate gamers more so than anything else this week – ScaryGirl

Gran Turismo 5 to Get Two DLC Packs and Update 2.03 Next Week – Screens and Details

Expect lots of new content for Gran Turismo 5 next week with two new DLC packs and update 2.03 announced by Sony today. The upcoming DLC includes the Car Pack 3 and the Speed Test Pack.

Car Pack 3 will feature six new cars: Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar XJR9, Aston Martin V12 Vantage 2011, VW 1200 1966, Mini Countryman S 2011, and Nissan Leaf. The pack will be priced at $6.99 .

The Speed Test Pack features an all-new oval race track with a special performance measurement mode – perfect for trialing out your car collection and their stats. It should be priced at $5.99.

Update 2.03 will be released on January 18th and should feature the following changes:

New theme for my home in GT Mode.
An option to set up in the penumatici Pit Strategy (B-spec).
Simulated regenerative braking on electric cars.
Chaparral 2J Race Car ’70: Fan forced shutdown option.
Fixed an error unexpected pit stop on the last lap of a race B-spec.

Mortal Kombat ‘Komplete Edition’ Announced, Drops February 28th

NetherRealm Studios has announced a Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition which will release in North America on February 28th.

The Komplete Edition includes all previously released character DLC packs (Freddy, Scarlet, Rain, and Kenshi), the Mortal Kombat: Songs Inspired by the Warriors album, a kode to download the 1995 Mortal Kombat feature film, fifteen klassic fighter skins and three klassic fatalites for Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

If you didn’t purchase the original release, this gives you the perfect opportunity to own the komplete edition of 2011′s Fighter of the Year.

Artist Ed McMillen revealed via his Twitter feed that an expansion to The Binding of Isaac is in the works:

“Just got finished drawing up icons for a new item set in the isaac expansion they are called “trinkets” held items that give passive bonuses”

“there are 20 of them, they will be as common as pills and cards but easier to get out of the fortune teller machine, another new addition.” (One of the items he teased is the Red Patch, as pictured above.)

“the additions i mentioned will only be a very small portion of the mega expansion that should release next year”

“I have no release date for it, im working on it casually. it will be 3 bucks and add about 50% new content, details on what as i make them.”

So there it is folks. Ed McMillen is hard at work generating new content for The Binding of Isaac‘s “mega expansion”, all for a paltry $3. Considering that the original game is only worth $4.99 on Steam, the $3 for such a large expansion is well worth it. I just can’t wait to see what twisted things McMillen decides to add in next.

DCUO’s ‘Lightning Strikes’ DLC Now Available

Have you been playing the recently relaunched f2p version of DC Universe Online? If you have, there’s a bunch of new content available today thanks to SOE’s release of the latest DLC pack for the superhero MMO.

Lightning Strikes focuses on the character of The Flash and introduces the game’s eighth power set, Electricity Powers. DC Universe Online players can access the following new content:

Central City - Experience solo and group adventures with the all-new map.

Flashback Duo - In the Flashback Duo, players can travel back in time to the very moment when Barry Allen became The Flash and battle foes inside the Central City Police Station.

Electricity Powers - Players can now utilize the new Electricity Power set and use new types of healing powers and damage attacks in combat, including:

Tesla Ball – Creates a floating ball of electricity that zaps nearby enemies

The Shockwave – Shoots streams of electric bolts at enemies

Ionic Drain – Drains energy from the environment to replenish a player’s health while simultaneously damaging surrounding enemies

New Gear - Players can earn all-new gear sets including the new Zoom-inspired set for villains, and the new Black Lightning-inspired set for heroes

New Characters - Encounter new iconic DC Universe characters, including Livewire, Black Lightning, The Top, The Trickster, Static and much more.

“The Flash is one of the premiere characters in the DC Universe and has long been a fan favorite,” said Jens Andersen, DCUO Creative Director, Sony Online Entertainment. “We’re excited to deliver a new and exciting adventure featuring The Flash with our latest DLC, Lightning Strikes.
