A Japanese online retailer has posted the initial lineup of a ‘PlayStation 3 the best’ series, better known as Greatest Hits or Platinum in the US and UK. Five titles will debut at 3,800 yen on March 19 – Resistance: Fall of Man, Folklore, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Gundam: Target in Sight and Ridge Racer 7.

While there’s no official word form SCEJ just yet, the time’s about right. All those titles have pretty much fallen off the radar – I’d certainly want to milk them for what they’re worth.

Frankly we can’t wait for them to launch outside Japan, because even when we are lucky enough to get review code in, we certainly don’t get a copy each. Thankfully Gamesindustry.biz has been informed that a platinum collection in Europe is “likely”.

Since there hasn’t been an official announcement, there is obviously no word on when we’ll get to stop agonising over our purchases.

High Velocity Bowling is indeed coming to the US Playstation Store today, as can be seen by looking at the official US website. Bowling with the Sixaxis sounds fun, but the question is, is it as fun as using a Wii Mote?

In addition, the US at last gets Beats for the PSP. Made by Sony’s London Studio, it’s been out in Europe for a while and it’s great fun to play a game that uses the beats from your favorite music.

Now PixelJunk Monsters, which we previewed last week, is not coming to the US or Europe until January next year. It is, however, already out in Japan for 900 yen.

Americans can also look forward to a Black Sabbath pack for Rock Band at the cost of $5.49. Including three songs, Ozzy also lets us buy the them separately; N.I.B., Sweet Leaf, or War Pigs – each at $1.99.

Also coming to the US this week is Folklore downloadable content, which we already told you about here. Expect some costumes and characters similar to Japan as well, which you can see below. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you get the new GTAIV trailer to download in all its HD glory.

Last but not least, the European and Australian store has been updated with a Kane and Lynch: Dead Men demo (840MB), among other things, such as a Killzone 2 theme to pretty up your XMB. Photographs of the themes follow the Folklore DLC images. Here’s proof that a Kane & Lynch demo is indeed up:

Completists be damned! In this brave new era of DLC, there’s always a new monster to slay or a new quest to complete. Such as it is with Folklore, which’ll be getting two new mini-expansions sometime soon.

Downloadable over PSN (of course), both will feature a new costume for one of the characters, a new folk, and a four-quest story arc to follow.

The first, called “Kidnapped Folk” features Ellen in arguably her most questionable wardrobe yet. What looks like black leather and fishnets? Sign me up! The armor-clad Maximillian joins her on a quest to track down the titularly-filched folk.

The second, “Bottom of the Sea,” seems less compelling, but apparently ties some of the loose ends left dangling in “Kidnapped Folk.” Plus, you get to dress Keats up in a really cool Kamen Rider-esque costume. The new folk in this pack, Phutcampus, sounds more like a boss than a potential companion, though.

Both packs will be available for $3.99 individually or $5.99 bundled. No exact date has been set (though they’re coming this month). Sony promises even more bite-sized add-ons like this for Folklore in the future.
