X-Play to Award the Worst Games of 2011 in Tonight’s Golden Mullet Awards

G4TV’s X-Play is hosting the videogame equivalent of The Razzies tonight with the Golden Mullet Awards. Stinkers of 2011, not only have you already experienced the pain widespread internet hate of rabid gamers and the unanimous panning by critics, you’ll now experience even more humiliation by having an ugly Golden Mullet bust in your honor… that you probably won’t want to put on your mantle.

The Golden Mullet Awards will be shown tonight, 6:30 PST on Spike TV. I bet Duke Nukem Forever will take truckloads of these golden busts home.

Hawken Gameplay – You Wanted More? You Got More!

It’s amazing what a talented team of indie game devs with an Unreal 3 license can do. If you don’t already know about Hawken, then let this be your wakeup call. This upcoming Mech FPS has garnered an immense swell of viral buzz due to the fact that, well… it just looks so fucking awesome. Check out the now infamous gameplay video first:

However, just yesterday over at G4, the Hawken devs from Adhesive Games sat down with Xplay to share a bit more about their game, and show off some more gameplay. Enjoy:

It’s safe to say that we’re hype for Hawken, and you should be too. There hasn’t been a game like this in quite some time and it’s got my MechWarrior fan-o-mometer cruisin’ past 11 with both boosters on.

DirecTV Ditches G4; Network Urges Viewers to Show Support

For some, October 31st was a date filled with fear and terror alike, and not because it was Halloween. For the people of G4TV, this marked the final day of negotiations with provider DirecTV, and as of November 1st, the one-time video game-centric network is no longer a part of their list of offerings.

“At this time we are no longer negotiating and we have no plans to put G4 back up,” a DirecTV representative told EW.com (via GoNintendo) by way of e-mail. “We are constantly evaluating our lineup in a new world where programming costs continue to rise at significant rates. Since G4 is among the lowest rated networks based on the latest Nielsen data, we decided that it made sense to focus on preserving programming that is more relevant to our larger customer base.”

Following this discontinuation, G4TV has offered their own statement:

We are very disappointed with DirecTV’s decision to drop G4 as of November 1, 2010. We have done everything in our power to reach a fair and equitable long-term extension with them to continue to carry our network. This is especially frustrating since our offer to them was the same basic deal that we’ve had with DirecTV for the past three years. However, DirecTV rejected this offer thereby denying their subscribers the only network dedicated to today’s web-inspired, tech-savvy, gamer lifestyle.

We here at the Network are extremely proud of the value we bring to the millions of viewers who watch G4. Through programming like Attack of the Show, X-Play, Ninja Warrior, Web Soup or our exclusive live coverage of the E3 gaming Expo, Comicon, CES and the Tokyo Game Show, G4 remains committed to proving “plugged in” programming which makes this network such a unique channel that television has to offer.

That said, G4TV hopes its DirecTV viewers are not ready to give up the network without a fight, offering the following to those who wish to see it restored to their service:

If you are a DirecTV subscriber please contact them directly at 1-888-9-WeAreG4 to voice your disappointment for dropping the service. You do have a choice when it comes to getting your TV service. Please enter your zip code below to find a list of providers in your area who carry G4.

The statement concludes with an apology to the network’s DirecTV viewer contingent and thanks for their support, while adding that they remain hopeful that this issue may be resolved in the near future.

Diablo III Not Supporting Mods – Closed Beta Coming Soon

With BlizzCon running and Diablo III in development, naturally fans are clamouring for any bites of information they can get however none has surfaced. However, Lead Designer Jay Wilson recently told G4 that there would be a closed Beta for Diablo III.

Don’t count on it being made available to the public at launch, as it’s highly likely that it will be a friends and family time of beta, with the public having access later on in the lifecycle. During the same interview, Wilson also added that Diablo III wouldn’t support player made mods.

Lords of Shadow Gameplay Trailer (Almost) Tells All

With Castlevania: Lords of Shadow ready to hit stores next week, Konami and G4 have teamed up to bring you this epic trailer which literally tells you (almost) everything you need to know about the game. Shame this video wasn’t around when I was writing my hands on preview and interview titled, “Everything you Need to Know About Lords of Shadow”

Anyhow, enjoy as Jason Isaacs goes into great detail about the story and gameplay and almost reveals a thing or two in the process ;-)

The obvious reveal here is that Jason Isaacs is indeed Dracula and that Dracula is the final boss!! . . . or is he? I for one, am not so sure . . .

Look for Lords of Shadow as well as the RipTen review on October 5th.

G4′s Olivia Munn Debuts As Daily Show Asian Correspondent

Move over Ron Burgundy, throw out your skills Walter Conkrite (RIP), because there’s a new reporter on the scene; Olivia Munn.

After nearly five years with cable network “G4″ Olivia Munn recently appeared on The Daily Show with host Jon Stewart. Munn appeared as the “Senior Asian Correspondent” on June 3rd in a short “skit” of sorts on the effect on Asian Fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico, an area devastated by the recent oil spill that is all over the news.

Featuring an edgy title of “The Spilling Fields” (An obvious play on “The Killing Fields”) the segment lasted just over six minutes and contained some humorous moments. Her plethora of online friends (stalkers) had mixed reactions — some labeling it a bit insensitive, while others worshiped every second and exclaimed how much they love her.

Well, here it is. X-Play’s Adam Sessler, after being challenged on his Game of the Year pick of Fable 2, goes on Attack of the Show to debate the GotY live with Kevin Pereira, the man who called out Sessler and said that Fable 2 was “a terrible, terrible choice”. Video follows.

Wow, that was weak. I expected a little better than this. I mean, they only talked about Fallout 3 versus Fable 2, and Kevin made such ridiculously stupid “points” that it almost wasn’t even a debate. Sessler won by far, but that still doesn’t mean Fable 2 should have been game of the year. What do you all think?

I’m going to make a few assumptions here and post some words that should be enticing enough to make you want to watch this video: Olivia Munn, Playboy Bunny, sexy librarian, In-N-Out Burger, Chun-Li.

After watching this the first time, I was torn between whether I thought Olivia was being funny or if she was actually kind of a bitch. Then I watched it again and decided that it didn’t matter.
