Our friend Norm Schrager at meetinthelobby.com is reporting that HBO will feature a two day George Carlin remembrance highlighting some of the master comedian’s greatest performances.

The tribute will begin on Wednesday, June 25th with Carlin’s 1977 USC performance and wrap up on Thursday, June 26thwith the premier of his final HBO special “It’s Bad for Ya”.

It is with a heavy heart I report on the death of George Carlin, a man whose brash ”in your face” sense of humor paled only in comparison to his overall creative genius.

George Carlin passed away due to heart failure after being admitted to a Santa Monica hospital yesterday.

My first exposure to George Carlin live was at the Melody Tent in Cape Cod Massachusetts in 2002. In addition to laughing hysterically, I remember walking away after the show thinking to myself “wow he really gets it”.

George could make people laugh by simply talking about the things we all do and think in private that most of us would never dare to mention out loud.

From picking your nose to pissing off sensors, he believed that nothing was off limits, and that anything could be made funny. The key was to pick one thing in a joke and exaggerating the hell out of it. The man was brilliant.

George Carlin was scheduled to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this November, and one can only hope that the time will be use to adequately pay respect to his legacy.

If you are familiar with George Carlin, then it’s easy to understand why outspoken individuals such as myself grew up idolizing the man and his body of work. He will be deeply missed.

Yes George, it does sound like something is missing — an old friend is gone.
