Grand Theft Auto Having a Ridiculous iOS/Mac Holiday Sale

I love the holidays. Besides the good food, free things, and the holiday-themed candy, there are the deals.

Ever since the commercialization of Christmas, people just tend to be a little more loose with their wallet during the holidays. If they’re already splurging on ridiculous amounts of Ferrero Rocher chocolate and Christmas-themed wrapping paper in preparation for the great generic gift hand-out, why not spend a little extra on things that they want themselves? It’s not like they’re going to get anything else besides Ferrero Roche chocolate in return.

Anyway, in the spirit of holiday deals, Rockstar is hosting a ridiculous Mac/iOS sale for the Grand Theft Auto series. If you’re an iOS/Mac kind of person and you’ve never had a chance to play Grand Theft Auto, here’s your chance. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the iPad and the iPhone is only $2.99.

But here’s the kicker: Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, AND San Andreas are all available on Mac for $6.99 each. This deal lasts until November 28th, so it’s probably a good idea to buy them now, particularly Vice City and San Andreas, which are, in my opinion, the two best in the series.

As you’ve most likely heard by now, Grand Theft Auto 5 is taking us back to Los Santos, the fictional Los Angeles that sits at the center of the San Andreas region of the Grand Theft Auto universe.

We’ll be visiting a lot of the same places that our old pal CJ wreaked havoc upon in GTA: SA, and to prove it, someone was nice enough to recreate the new trailer featuring the old tech.

RipTen Asks: If You Could Be Any GTA Character, Who Would You Be?

It’s time for RipTen Asks, a gathering for the video game enthusiasts who have opinions about things. Video game-related things!

This week, we take our question to the wild streets of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. From Vinewood to Liberty City and everywhere in between, the GTA series has often had memorable characters that help keep the story and world feeling both interesting and entertaining. But if you had to pick just one character to be, who would you choose?

Be it the Hawaiian-shirt sporting Vice City Kingpin ‘Tommy Vercetti’, the constantly stoned South Central San Andreas socialite ‘Ryder’ or even the travelling child molester ‘James Pedeaston’, the GTA universe has quite the colorful cast. October 22nd marks the 10 year anniversary for one of the most influential games of all time, Grand Theft Auto III. With stellar voice acting, a darkly comic storyline, a stunning soundtrack and revolutionary open-world gameplay, Grand Theft Auto III was a landmark moment in popular culture.

In celebration of the 10th year for Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar Games have released a special trailer and wanted to thank all the fans for your support over the years. Now if only Rockstar would announce GTA V, then we’ll all be happy.

More GTA V Information Surfaces

For today’s edition of “GTA V” rumors, RipTen is pleased to present a brand new image regarding the unannounced Grand Theft Auto sequel. An image posted on the Neogaf forum would indicate that retailers are preparing to stock “GTA V” for both Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3;

Please note that "GTA V" is also listed for the PlayStation 3.

If the image is indeed legit, we could see a hint, or perhaps a full disclosure at this years e3, just days away! RipTen has a full fledged team covering the event, so if it’s announced, make sure to check back for all the details regarding this somewhat mythical game.

San Andreas Recreated With GTA IV Tech

Ever wondered what roaming the vast landscapes of Los Santos, San Fierro or even Las Venturas would feel like in GTA IV‘s RAGE engine? Wonder no longer. Well actually, keep wondering for a little while, but for now enjoy this video demonstrating the tech behind the mod that makes said ideas possible:

No official word on when “GTA IV San Andreas” will be completed, but I for one will be playing this mod day one. Unless of course the next Grand Theft Auto releases before then, one can only hope…

Take Two Proud To Be Profitable Without Grand Theft Auto

During a conference call today, Take Two Interactive has stated that it is very proud to have had a profitable year without a Grand Theft Auto title.

They saw strong sales performance from titles like Red Dead Redemption, Mafia II and NBA 2K11 (which is now the best selling 2K Sports game of all time) in addition to popular DLC releases like RDR: Undead Nightmare as well as Borderlands add-on content.

Sales from L.A Noire are also off to an amazing start with a reported 1.6 million copies already being sold within the first week of release.

Does Take Two need Grand Theft Auto to be profitable? It seems not, but I think they definitely need Rockstar Games.

In fact, it was also just announced that Rockstar has renewed their agreement with Take Two, so it doesn’t look like this gravy train is going to stop rolling any time soon.

Rockstar Games Renews Long Term Contract With Take-Two Interactive

On today’s episode of “No-Brainers” Take-Two Interactive has announced that Rockstar Games has renewed it’s long term contract with the company.

This comes, of course, on the heels of Rockstar’s latest hit for Take Two, L.A Noire, which is already a critical and financial success.

Rockstar has been a critical factor in Take-Two’s earnings over the years, and launches of Rockstar Games such as Grand Theft Auto 4 have been known to nearly double the stock price of TTWO in less than one week.

Here is what Take Two had to say:

Sam Houser, Dan Houser and Leslie Benzies, key members of the creative team of Rockstar Games, have agreed to renew their long-term employment agreements with the Company on substantially similar economic terms. This team has been instrumental in the development and success of Take-Two’s extensive portfolio of multi-million unit internally-owned franchises.

Well, maybe not an actual nickel, but $7.49 for 5 incredible games is an unmissable deal. Unfortunately for the Oceanic RipTen readers, you may not have access to the full catalogue (I myself could only purchase 3 & San Andreas), but for the rest of you, there is no excuse not to buy this marvelous collection. This German GameStop Site Has a Listing for GTA V… Just Sayin’

Now before you say a word, I know that Gamestop has a track record of putting up game release dates with little to no proof that the game is coming out on that date. That being said, I couldn’t resist sharing this little tidbit with the RipTen community, because I love you guys (and girls) and I love to get your hopes up when they most certainly will be crushed within hours, possibly minutes from now.

Now, let me take you on a fantastic journey of improbability as attempt to persuade you that what I’m about to show you might possibly be legitimate, even though it most certainly will not be. The german Gamestop site has a listing for GTA V, but only for PS3 and the release date is January 15th, 2012. For those tracking at home, that’s a Sunday. How many non-Nintendo games are released on Sunday you may ask? I’ve never heard of a single one in all my days.

Anyway here’s the screenshot before Gamestop realizes they’ve screwed up again.

Has This Star Studded GTA V Casting Call Been Leaked?

Take 2 have put out a private casting call, presumably to bring in voice actors for a brand new game. The full casting call can be found here, or you can check out the list below. One Character in particular stands out from the rest, entitled “James Pedeaston”;

James Pedeaston was often featured on the radio channel “WCTR” in Grand Theft Auto IV, talking about his desires to make love with young tribal boys. One quote featured on the Call also reassures us that this James is the very same.

James Pedeaston is a child molester wanted in Malaysia and is being investigated by the FBI. He hosted The Wild Traveler show on WCTR in 1992, although it is apparently syndicated to nine other stations (not heard in-game). He enjoys traveling the world and logging some of his most ‘exotic’ encounters in his travelogue, some of which he accidentally reads on-air to the disgust of the listeners. His favourite memory seems to be a relationship with a boy named Avrindar in Sri Lanka. His show appears to be so reviled by his listeners that at one point, he receives few calls which are not supportive. For example, a caller tells him to stop droning on about other countries and focus on talking about where he lives. At one point he received a phone call from a suicidal man in Verdant Bluffs who wanted to go to hell. Pedeaston replies with “Me too! Buy me a refrigerator magnet when you get there”. In GTA IV, he was arrested by the Indonesian police after being suspected of child molesting in Bali, Indonesia in 2003.

Viral Campaigns possibly related with the next Grand Theft Auto have already surfaced, but when you add a casting call with a familiar Character, it’s a safe bet that this casting call is indeed for the next Grand Theft Auto. GTA IV Carmageddon is F**king Insane

So apparently this guy turned the car wheel friction to negative – and this is what happened. He’s a had a ton of inquiries about how to do it on his YouTube page – and this was his reply:

Feature Length Film Created With GTA IV

GTAIV Machinima is quite a common commodity on the internet, and rightfully so. The game has an astounding video editor built in, and the amount of crazy moments the game can harbor is second to none. However, feature length films made with GTAIV is far from common, it’s about as rare as the Holy Grail, until now.

A French director by the name of Mathieu Weschler has created a feature length movie entirely in Grand Theft Auto IV. The films name is “Trashmaster”, and as it implies the movie revolves around cleaning garbage and other undesirables.

The “trashmaster” divides his time between collecting garbage and cleaning up other forms of trash fouling up New York City’s streets: dealers, small-time criminals… When the dancers in his favourite strip club are mysteriously killed, the trashmaster finds himself hot on the trail of a particularly twisted serial killer.

So grab some popcorn, kick-back and relax, as the movie goes on for a whopping 88 Minutes!

Classic Rockstar Games Now On Steam For Australia

Previously the older Rockstar titles weren’t available on steam for us Oceanic people, well as of late it would seem that Rockstar (or the powers that be) have finally changed their minds. You can now buy classic Rockstar games on the Steam service.

Titles like San Andreas, Max Payne and Bully are all available for a modest price (usually $10-$15), it’s just a shame that the region locking was revoked AFTER the gigantic Steam sale. What’s odd though, is that a previously banned game “Manhunt” appears on this list, and not Vice City, of which wasn’t banned in Oceania. However that’s just a minor gripe, I’ve personally been waiting for these games to come to Steam for a very long time, it’s about time I visited Los Santos again!

British Tabloid to Pay ‘Substantial Damages’ for GTA: Rothbury Story

British tabloid The Daily Star will pay “substantial damages” due to a reported hoax in which they claimed Rockstar was creating a Grand Theft Auto: Rothbury. Evidently, Rockstar didn’t take too kindly to being connected to the events of a manhunt that occured in Rothbury just recently during July 2010 and decided to sue.

Accompanying the article was an image purported to be the game’s cover which offended many people including relatives of the victims involved in the ordeal. The Daily Star also solicited and published reactions to this cover all without notifying Rockstar before publishing the “hoax”.

There’s an easy lesson learned here: be careful what you print and keep in mind that freedom of the press does not equal freedom from litigation. A simple joke is not worth “substancial damages” – use common sense.

GTA: Chinatown Wars HD Heading to Apple’s iPad

Rockstar, the long running developers and publishers of perhaps one of the most controversial game series ever has announced that their handheld exclusive; Chinatown Wars, will be heading to the iPad on September 9th for $9.99 (USD).

Following the dismal sales of the game on the Nintendo DS and PSP due to piracy, Rockstar is hoping that the HD installation will appeal to a broader audience. The developer said:

““In addition to the wide range of features developed specifically for the previous App Store iterations, including intuitive multi-touch user interface controls, adjusted difficulty levels and iTunes customisable radio station Independence Radio, Chinatown Wars HD comes to the iPad with brand new, updated high definition graphics.”

However, it remains to be seen if the HD version will be more successful than the original port onto the iPhone and iTouch devices. If you get it, let us know!

Grand Theft Auto IV as a First-Person Shooter?

Ever wonder what it would be like to terrorize the streets of Liberty City from a first-person perspective? Wonder no longer. Thanks to a mod created for the PC version, you can experience it yourself.

From this new perspective Liberty City definitely looks more alive. Minute details are more visable as even the inside of a Burger Shot looks impressive while weapon fire effects are closer, thus more noticeable. It’s obvious from this youtube video that combat and driving are more challenging.

Instructions on how to mod can be found on the original youtube page. Definitely a refreshing and new take on a classic game that warrants another look at Liberty City.
