The new SoulCalibur game for the Sony PlayStation Portable, SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny, will feature the God of War protagonist, Kratos, as a playable character.

The above video shows leaked footage of the much-anticipated God of War 3. It;s not just a trailer this time, though; it’s gameplay footage. Nothing spectacular, but gameplay footage nonetheless. The video shows Kratos fighting some enemies, and then fighting a bigger enemy by bashing it’s head for about thirty seconds. Supposedly the game runs at a smooth 60fps most of the time, with a minimum point of 30fps in the more hectic scenes- if you care about that. Just watch the video before the leak is snatched away from us.

A new GameStop commercial, which recently appeared on FX, has revealed some additional LittleBigPlanet pre-order specials.

In addition to the Kratos costume we reported on a two months ago, the spot unveils a new Medusa and Minotaur costume for Sackboy, as well as a God of War map pack.

Here’s another Kratos crossover for God of War fans. A few weeks ago, we found out that Kratos was being worked into LittleBigPlanet in SackBoy form, and now Sony’s Official PlayStation Blog confirms the rumors that he will be in Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds as well.

Clap Hanz, the developers of the game, worked closely with the God of War team and T.C. Carson, the voice of Kratos, to bring the mythical character to life. One of the coolest details is that his golf club, the “Club of Chaos”, is a driver attached by chain links to a grip he holds in his hands.

I’m not a really big fan of golf, video game or the real thing, but if I could swing that ball and chain club of his at a few country club boys, it might be enough to get me to have a change of heart.

Our source in France tells us God of War 3 will be at E3

I don’t care about what they say about the French, they’re okay in my book. They break NDAs, they’re the namesake of french fries, and on top of that they got a Sony representative to confirm God of War 3’s presence at this upcoming E3!

So, not all hope is a lost for this year’s E3. After the unprecedented recent Microsoft leaks I didn’t hold out much hope for anything exciting from Microsoft, but Sony sure is picking up the proverbial ball that Microsoft dropped, only fumbling it slightly on the way to score (I’m talkin’ about all these delays!).

Speaking with JeuxActu, a Sony rep seemingly inadvertently revealed that God of War 3 will be gracing our presence come E3 time. In what form or fashion it’ll show is still unknown, but let’s cross our fingers for a playable build!

Keep checking back the week of E3, starting July 15, 2008. Ripten will be present and we will be losing sleep for you. You’d better appreciate it or else I’ll turn this E3 around. I’ll do it!

Kratos is not a nice guy. His hobbies are killing barbarians, killing peasants, killing hydras, and killing his family. He digs tattoos, revenge, and bad girls. He’s every man’s hero.

But this battle-hardened Ghost of Sparta would be nothing without his weapons of choice. Without his Blades, Kratos would have just been more cannon fodder for the gods. With them, he became a god who defied Olympus itself.

Kratos used the Blades of Chaos to deliver pain to anyone stupid enough to get in his way. And there were a lot of stupid people in ancient Greece. The Blades themselves aren’t the most comfortable accessory, with them being singed to his flesh and all. But hey, doesn’t that just make them all the more badass?

Unlike many of the other weapons on this list, the Blades of Chaos are available at the start of your journey. Other weapons became available to Kratos as his quest unfolded, but none of them outshined the Blades.

Attached to a length of chain, the blades can be flung out to greet all those annoying little harpies flying around half-naked, or used as daggers for a more personal slaying. They’re perfect for any rock-climbing enthusiast who plans on scaling the smoldering cliffs of Hades, and they come in handy when extra leverage is needed in the occasional threesome.

Whether it’s interrogation, decapitation, or mutilation, the Blades of Chaos can do the job right. And not only that, but they do it in style.

What made the Blades of Chaos such a badass weapon wasn’t the Herculean warrior holding them, but the average Joe who controlled them. Few weapons can make a player feel invincible against overwhelming odds, and God of War’s fantastic controls made the Blades of Chaos one of these rarities.

The variety of the moves and combos in God of War made the Blades one of the best-designed instruments of destruction in modern gaming. Dust off that old PS2 and pop in God of War or its equally good sequel to relive the fun of a Minotaur tonsil removal.

Call me betrayed. I was quite impressed the last time I laid my hands on a playable version of God of War: Betrayal, but that was on a high-end phone like the Sony Ericsson Walkman, and on my RAZR it’s a completely different and rather terrible game.

I was skeptical that the slick-looking, well animated side-scroller I played a few months ago would work well on my RAZR, but Sony’s representatives at the demo assured me that I’d be getting the same game. This week, I finally downloaded Betrayal onto my RAZR, but the game that I paid $6.50 for looked absolutely nothing like what I had previewed on the high-end phone. Without a way to preview the title before committing to a download, I ended up stuck with a low-res, choppy version of Betrayal on the RAZR.

Compared to a high-end version, the RAZR-compatible version of Betrayal looks awful and plays worse. It’s got the God of War license and can be a decent platformer if you’re patient and dedicated, but the Lode Runner graphics and Game and Watch animation on the RAZR are not the kind of production values that players associate with the God of War series.

It is disappointing to say the least, but the idea of an original God of War storyline with above-average graphics on a non-gaming phone like the RAZR was just too good to be true. There are multiple versions of this game out there for different phones, so be warned that if your phone isn’t up to snuff, you could end up regretting what would otherwise be a defendable purchase. If you’re sporting a RAZR, better avoid Betrayal at all cost.

If you’ve got a fancy gaming phone like the Sony Ericsson Walkman, which I also played Betrayal on, you’ll be much more satisfied with your purchase. The graphics are pretty good, resembling a Game Boy Advance game instead of the Game Boy Color sprites on the RAZR. A high end gaming phone also allows for much smoother scrolling and animation, and certain enemies (like horseback riders) and features (such as breakable walls) will only appear in the high end versions of the game.

Clearly SOE hasn’t done a good enough job of informing consumers that there are multiple versions of this game for different phones. The Betrayal website displays only screenshots and videos of the high-end version, while completely ignoring that a significant percentage of their audience will buy this game for a phone like the RAZR and expect it to look as good as advertised.

God of War: Betrayal, at its best, takes the concept of the PS2 titles and does a pretty good job of converting it into a side-scroller similar to the original Prince of Persia games. But unless you’ve got a high-end phone like the Walkman, you will quickly discover that guiding a microscopic and shoddy looking Kratos into battle is more frustrating than fun.
