u-s-army-uses-resident-evil-5-best-buy-launch-party-to-recruit-fresh-meat-shields

Resident Evil 5 and the U.S. Army? Where do I sign up??!??!!

The only thing comparable to the way I feel when I see U.S. Army recruiters mixed into events packed with teenage kids would be witnessing Michael Jackson driving a bus load of Catholic priests to Chuck E. Cheese for a quick bite to eat.

I know I may take some heat for this, but I couldn’t help but notice the “GO ARMY” recruitment tent mixed into the Best Buy Resident Evil 5 launch party video (which you can also see after the jump). I don’t mind the idea of recruiters but what I do mind is the methods by which they often recruit.

This isn’t the first time the U.S. Army has been accused of blurring the lines between gaming and recruiting. Promoting an official U.S. Army videogame and lacing their official army game website to contain soldier bios designed to look like videogame stat cards is youth marketing at its finest. Look at all the stats you can wrack up kids – assuming you don’t die first.

Hit the jump for the RE5 launch party video as promised. Read more…

Local Retailers Biased Against PlayStation?

by John Landis on November 17, 2008 at 1:13 am

Having not ever been an owner of a PS3 or PSP, I wasn’t aware of the bias that retailers are showing towards the “black” console.  One of the guys that I work with is a huge PlayStation fan.  Not a fanboy, mind you, but a normal person who happens to like the PS3 over the 360.

I’ve heard him talk about it before, but I’ve always passed it off as simple bad customer service or people just being overly hyped about a 360 game over the PlayStation ones, but after “Emergence Day 2″, I was shocked and appalled at the level of anti-PS3 sentiment he had to deal with. Read more…

Fallout 3 Launch Party Will Detonate October 18th In Los Angeles

by Sal Romano on October 11, 2008 at 5:04 pm

The highly anticipated Fallout 3 is set to launch come the end of this month, and Bethesda’s prepared to ring it in with a bang.

Next Saturday, Bethesda will be throwing a launch party for Fallout 3 in Los Angeles. It’s sure to entertain, as hosts will include Courtney Cox (there’s a Friendly face), David Arquette, Odette Yustman, Ben Harper, and the Zenimax board of directors.

In the spirit of the event, the Foo Fighers are scheduled to nuke every living organizim within a 25 yard radius. We’re just kidding. They’ll be performing their music of course.

Fallout 3 is set to release October 28th, 2008 for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
