Sony and Sega are teaming up to skin one beloved icon with the blue spikey exterior of another. According to the pages of PlayStation’s Hong Kong site, costumes for Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails, Knuckles, Werehog and Dr. Eggman will be available in that region on December 17th. We will most likely see them release here in the States as well, but nothing official points to it just yet.

I got rid of my PSP a while ago because the library was pretty lackluster, and even though it’s expanding more with the inclusion of the PSPgo, I don’t really care for the system. But that’s not to say I’m excited to see how LittleBigPlanet for the PSP turns out. I guess I’ll be able to find out November 17th, when the game hits stateside.

We haven’t heard much about the game since it was announced in February, but it’s shaping up to be a rather solid PSP title. Sony didn’t add multiplayer, but they have promised DLC and the inclusion of British humorist, Stephen Fry, which frankly, is good enough for me. How many of you are planning to pick up the game?

LittleBigPlanet recently reached one million online levels, and the developers have deservedly begun to celebrate. A million levels, of which 999,990 are trophy-farming levels. The million levels have been played 244 million times; obviously this means that there have been 244 million cases of frustration over the stupid physics and jumping mechanics, and likely about a billion uses of the “hit the other player” wave of the control stick.

There have been rumors abound about some sort of Ghostbusters content in LittleBigPlanet ever since the jerks over at the Playstation.blog started tugging at our heart strings and teasing potential Ghostbusters content in the game. While I don’t actually own LittleBigPlanet (or for that matter, a Playstation 3) I’ve been waiting to see what Media Molecule and Sony have been holding back in the game. Today, the Playstation.blog finally revealed what we knew the entire time- that Ghostbusters costumes were indeed coming to LittleBigPlanet.

Some of you will be disappointed to learn that there aren’t any special levels or packs with this DLC, other than the costumes themselves. You can grab each costume individually for $1.99 off of the Playstation Network, or if bundlin’ makes you feel good, you can go for the full 4-pack of costumes for $5.99, and save yourself a Jefferson.

Once in a while, a video comes along that is just so well-produced, and so clever that you can’t help but think it’s viral marketing of some sort. SeakittenCollective’s LittleBigRevenge is a perfect example of that, though I’m sure the turn for the worse this video takes isn’t the image that Media Molecule wants to promote.

Belgian couple Michael Van Ostade and Kaat Schellen had to find out the hard way that the Sackboys (Sackgirl? Sackpeople?) of LittleBigPlanet are always adorable, but sometimes vengeful when Kaat makes the mistake of wishing that the Sackpeople were real. I don’t want to spoil the video, so I’m just gonan shut up so you can enjoy the masterpiece that is LittleBigRevenge.

The PS Blog reports that LittleBigPlanet will be receiving an update soon, including a multitude of fixes and improvements. The update notes are after the jump, and include such things as ‘the game doesn’t break much now’ and ‘it’s a bit better now’. Not really, but that’s the gist of it. The patch includes the ability to listen to your own music in some sections of the game, and a better way to manage clothing, as well as a few improvements to the UI and community aspects of the game.

Sony’s Hong Kong site has revealed a set of Metal Gear Solid 4 DLC for LittleBigPlanet today. The content features costumes (individual and a pack) and level content for the game. Fans will be able to dress their Sackboy as Meryl, Screaming Mantis, and Raiden, along with the already released Old Snake. Looking at the icon for the level creation pack, it looks like there will be plenty of MGS stickers, as well as the inevitable objects and materials. Sony might be milking the cash cow a little hard with LittleBigPlanet, but honestly this looks like it might be something I’m actually interesting in getting, if only to have a Solid Snake sticker.

The PlayStation Blog has revealed a new set of downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet today: a “level pack”. The pack, the first of many, will include costumes, objects, decorative items and stickers, and will cost $2.99. Why not? It seems the best way to promote your game today is to dress up Media Molecule’s lead character as that of your own. If you’re a fan of the Capcom fighting series, you will apparently be able to pick up the character costumes shown above individually and as a package deal. No word on price or release date just yet. You see, a lot of websites (that I won’t mention because they don’t deserve the promotion) have been commenting on Little Big Planet’s sales and making the fantastically brilliant analysis that the game’s delay may have affected its numbers. It seems that even before the game’s release, LittleBigPlanet has been having problems. The latest comes from the “moderation” of user-created levels. Now, I’m pretty sure everyone was expecting all of the penis-themed LBP levels to be the first to get the crackdown, but surprisingly that isn’t the case at all. Instead, levels that include copyrighted game material–such as God of War or even Playstation 3-themed levels–are the first to be removed. LittleBigWorkshop is a site for those of us having trouble making our magnum opus in LittleBigPlanet. The site, while not only boasting the charming LBP aesthetic, provides a multitude of ways to get started on your new level.

The site links to your PSN account (you ought to have one if you’ve got LBP, you know) and allows you to view Workshops, user-created videos on how to go about creating your level, ‘Inspirations’, user-created snippets of text to inspire the greatest level the world has ever seen, and finally the blueprints feature. As you can see, I had no trouble in creating the plans for what may win every award you can think of (and some will be made up in order to commemorate the awesomeness).

It’s all very well done, and there are already plenty of users generating content for the site. It’s just a shame nobody will ever be able to top the Ripten party boat car level.

Since LittleBigPlanet hit retails shelves a week ago (though many people got it before then), there have been some pretty nifty levels coming out of the gaming populous. However, none of them so far have been as creative and mind-blowingly awesome as this Gradius level, fittingly titled “Libidius.jp”. Check it out after the break. Read more…
