DC Has a New Logo. Ummm, Why?

Since 2005, with the release of Batman Begins, the DC Comics logo came equipped with a blue swoosh known as the “DC Spin.” It was featured in films, TV shows, and games. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. Behold, the new DC Comics logo, in all its glorious colors.

Prior to this logo iteration, the company has had a total of nine variations with the longest stint being that of the “DC Bullet” design that ran from 1976 to 2005.

The newest addition does give the impression that they are a comic book publisher, but it still doesn’t beat the DC Spin in my humble opinion. If you’re a comic book reader, you can see the logo in action when the #7 issues for the New 52 books hit in March. In the meantime, how do you feel about it? Love it? Hate it? Let us know.

3DSWare Name And Logo Not Final

Yesterday RipTen reported on what appeared to be a finalized and official logo that appeared on the Nintendo of Greece web site for Nintendo’s new download ready software service on the 3DS. However Nintendo is claiming that this logo was merely a placeholder for the name and logo to be revealed in the future.

Nintendo had the following to say to VG247.com:

“Due to a technical issue, the company who distributes Nintendo product in Greece made a temporary logo, entitled ’3DSWare,’ public on their website,” the company told VG247 in a statement this afternoon.”

“This logo is in no way related to any unannounced services or features for Nintendo 3DS, and was simply a placeholder used whilst the website underwent construction work and has since been removed.

“We apologise for any confusion the logo may have caused.”

It would seem likely that Nintendo will call the service 3DSWare, but the company has never officially called it that for whatever reason.

THQ Unveils New Logo, Strategy for Company

At its New York Gamers Event, THQ has announced a new logo that intends to solidify its strategic goals and enhance the corporation’s visual identity.

“Our new logo epitomizes the change, innovation and creative growth that are the cornerstones of the new THQ,”said Brian Farrell, THQ President and CEO. “By developing triple-A, innovative, original intellectual properties, attracting the top talent in the industry, and placing that talent first, THQ continues to redefine itself. This new logo seeks to capture that change and make it tangible.”

The logo marks a new direction for the company as they push to innovate in an industry where it is becoming more difficult to do so. THQ promises change from the top down and the logo seeks to allow gamers to visually see change. Only time will tell if this move will mark a new era in the company’s storied history.

The new logo will be rolled out over the next few months and will begin to appear on THQ’s upcoming product releases starting in February.

Sony Pimping Out The Playstation Logo to Other Companies

If you’re a budding 3rd Party product creator, you’ll be shitting bricks as you bounce around the room like the Nintendo 64 kid. Sony announced last year they would be allowing their “PS” logo to be used on a wider range of 3rd party devices made for their platform. Well now they’ve followed that up by allowing lifestyle product creators to use the Playstation, and the face buttons (Triangle, Circle, Square, X) logos on t-shirts and other various items, that will ship with an “Official Licensed Product” seal.

Expect the next Milan fashion show to be full of models branded heavily in Playstation controllers and consoles.

Nintendo Drops the Red, Fixes What Ain’t Broke

According to Kotaku’s mailbox, Nintendo of Europe has officially changed their logo from the well-known red ‘Nintendo’ to the one seen in the above picture. Yes, the only difference between the two is the fact that it is now gray instead of red. What gives?

According to Nintendo’s PR partners, Popular PR, there really is no reason given other than “please start using the gray one”. The translated email reads as follows:

Dear Media Partner,

For several years, a new generation of Wii and Nintendo DS games have adorned themselves with a new logo, in discrete grey.

In various publications the former logo, with red lettering, can still be seen. In the event that you have not already done so, we would like to sincerely ask you to now only use the current, gray Nintendo logo.

This reminds me of when the Army changed their slogan from “Be all that you can be”, one of the most recognized mottoes in the world, to the incredibly retarded “An Army of One”. Nintendo’s new logo at least didn’t really change anything except the color, but it still begs the question: why?
