Infaune Feels He Singlehandedly Saved Capcom

Keiji Inafune, the former development head over at Capcom has revealed some startling secrets about Capcom, including a strictly adhered to ‘sequels-only’ creation rule.

During a recent seminar addressed to a group of students at a Kyoto based university, Inafune discussed how Capcom had originally rejected his plans for Dead Rising and Lost Planet. As part of their strict sequels-only rule, Capcom required that 70-80 percent of content created was sequels, with a sliver thin piece of the pie to the tune of twenty percent placed aside for new IP’s.

However even with the portion for original content, Capcom alledgely refused all new ideas, and that’s what Inafune fell victim to.

Going against the companies wishes, Keiji forged on and started development of Lost Planet, and he feels with that move he “saved the company”.

Prepared to be fired for ‘war crimes’ if the games had failed on the market, Inafune was incredibly happy when the titles sold millions worldwide and helped drive Capcom’s earnings and stock price.

Rumour: New Dead Rising and Lost Planet will be multiplatform

Capcom executive Keiji Inafune has mentioned in the newest issue of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that “We’re finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games! As a main principle we’re thinking about multi-platform, and expanding upon both slightly from the Xbox 360 version.” That’s a pretty strong hint towards both games being multi-platform; not to mention that most of Capcom’s games are multi-platform now.

Dead Rising is a game I’ve been wanting to play since it was released, so I’m certainly hoping for a PS3 version. I enjoyed the Lost Planet demo, too (although the full game is either nowhere to be found or way overpriced), so this is good news all round.

Mass Effect Heading to the Silver Screen

Marvel producer guy Avi Arad, the dude behind such fine adaptations as the Iron Man, Spider-Man, and X-men movies, has recently snatched up the rights to Bioware’s awesome story-driven RPG Mass Effect.

I personally think Mass Effect is already a movie, but the idea of slicing off all the running around and repetitive alien-squishing to concentrate more on the story certainly could make for a decent two-hour entertainment experience. Oh yeah, and no load screens, though if they made a joke about an extremely long elevator ride, that could be pretty humorous.

I’m curious to see what the plans are for the license. Will they simply just remake the trilogy of games into movies, will they incorporate the books into the films, or is there going to be a whole new story that just happens to take place in the Mass Effect universe? Time will tell on this one… or not.

At this point, there is no other information on the project other than the rights being sold. Considering the multitude of Marvel movies already slated for production by Avi Arad and crew in the next few years, Mass Effect doesn’t seem like it’s going to be hitting the theaters anytime soon unless it gets put on the fast-track. There also exists the possibility that Mass Effect was picked up simply because it’s a popular game and nothing will actually become of it.

Avi Arad’s newly formed production company is currently working on another videogame movie that you may or may not have heard of — Lost Planet (which is being written by Solid Snake himself, David Hayter). We’ll see how that turns out and let that be the gauge for how excited we should be about this Mass Effect movie news… unless it has hot blue alien lesbian scenes, in which case I will totally see it no matter how lame it is.

Lost Planet Movie Confirmed

Ripten’s Andrew Podolsky, who is live blogging the Capcom Press Conference as I type this, has just reported that a Lost Planet movie has been confirmed to be in the works.

The screenplay will be written by David Hayter, screenwriter of X2 and the upcoming Watchmen. Fans probably know him better as the voice of Solid Snake. Avi Arad and Ari Arad will be producing.

Lost Planet Multiplayer Demo Hits PSN

For all of those waiting to play Lost Planet on their Playstation 3s, your wait is over.

Starting today, U.S. PSN accounts will be able to download a multiplayer demo for Lost Planet. The demo features only one map (Pirate Fortress) and support for 8 players, and it also only offers two of the four multiplayer modes found in the full game.

Elimination and Team Elimination are essentially just deathmatch and team deathmatch. Post Grab (a sort of capture the flag) and Fugitive are sitting this one out, but will be on the retail disc. The full version also supports up to 16 players, as opposed to the 8 supported by the demo.

Check it out now, and prepare for Lost Planet’s February 26 release.

Dead Rising For The PC & Lost Planet “Colonies” Expansion Pack In The Works?

Dead Rising, the popular zombie infested action video game published by Capcom is rumored to be in development for the PC. In addition, there also appears to be a new update on the way for Lost Planet, another Capcom tittle, titled “Colonies”. The information makes its way on to the net due to a supposed slip by Halifax, the Capcom distributor in Italy.

At this point, it is important to note that the information is unconfirmed. If you can read Italian, or feel like messing around with Babble Fish, then feel free to have at the original post located at TGMOnline.com.

New Lost Planet Map Pack For Xbox 360, Ruins, Technology, & Ice Drop, Video Inside

The developers of Lost Planet for the Xbox 360 are giving us yet another map pack, the third so far, on Thursday June 21st. The maps this time around are “Ruins”, “Lost Technology”, and “Ice Drop” … as if the place wasn’t cold enough already. Check out the videos below of each map. Also, the map pack isn’t free, but then again how many things in life really are? After taking a look at these puppies we felt that the price of 400 Microsoft points is well worth it. Enjoy.
