New Modern Warfare 3 Maps Available Today for CoD: Elite Members

Two new maps, Liberation and Piazza, will be available today for Call of Duty Elite members on Xbox Live.

The release of these maps marks the start of a “content release season” for Elite members, with more content coming over the next 9 months (then a beautiful new baby Call of Duty will be born).

Liberation is a militarized Central Park, and is suited to long-range: sniper and LMG users. The map brings back mounted turrets (there’s only 1 in the vanilla game) on opposing ends of the map.

Piazza is set in an idyllic seaside village, “where blind corners and a complex network of branching pathways pose danger at every turn.” As opposed to Liberation, this map is much more close-quarters and has a more vertical layout.

Uncharted 3′s Multiplayer Looks Awesome – Gameplay, Maps and More

Uncharted 2‘s Multiplayer is awesome. My favorite PlayStation 3 multiplayer experience. Think that Uncharted 3′s multiplayer will be just more of the same? Think again.

Naughty Dog is one of those companies that never settles. With graphics, gameplay, interactivity and overall experience they always improve. Just compare Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to Among Thieves.

Now watch and see what’s in store for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’s Multiplayer.

This first trailer you’ve probably seen. It’s the reveal trailer from April. Look for new features such as character customization, weapon customization, captures and possibly vehicles.

These next two show off a few of the Co-op Multiplayer Maps: Airstrip and Chateau. The stages show exquisite detail.

Crysis 2 Decimation Map Pack Hits Online Stores

If you’re still playing the forgotten shooter Crysis 2, you’ll be happy to know that EA has continued their post-launch content support with a second map pack including five maps and two new weapons.

After the Retaliation pack, EA and Crytek have now launched the Decimation pack that includes the following five levels:

5th Avenue

Chasm

Plaza

Prism

Apartments

Alongside the five new arenas is a new FY71 Assault Rifle, perfect for destroying masses of enemies, and a smoke grenade, a tool that will no doubt be used for covering large open areas and providing cover.

The Crysis 2 Decimation pack is now available for PC and Xbox 360 through their corresponding in-game stores and will ship for Playstation 3 on the 28th of June, 2011.

Brink Updates Incoming – First DLC Will Be Free!

Some people have been experiencing “issues” with Brink. Bethesda and Splash Damage are working to address these issues asap and since they’re so f**king cool, they’re also giving us the first bit of DLC free. /woot

According to BethSoft:

We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.

In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for “Campaign” and most ‘Freeplay’ modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process – resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.

For players who haven’t been experienced lag, we’ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ‘Big Teams’ configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

We are also releasing an incremental update for PC players via Steam that addresses AI, GPU, and server issues. See the full release notes on Steam. Many of these fixes are being included in the full update for the 360 and PS3 versions.

We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps and new content for players. We’ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available.

PSA: Crysis 2 PC Multiplayer Demo Released

If you’re one of the PC fans (me included) clamouring to get your hands on the PC demo of Crysis 2, well fret no longer as EA has just uploaded the file.

This PC demo will allow players to play the previous Xbox 360 demo level “Skyline” and the beautiful looking “Pier 17″ map that popped up periodically throughout the Xbox 360 demo.

There’s still no word on the second Xbox 360 demo that is slated for release today either, however we will keep you updated on the situation.

New Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood DLC to Feature Leonardo Da Vinci (Detailed with Screens and Trailer)

The upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood DLC pack will be called The Da Vinci Disappearance and will focus on Ezio’s famous friend Leonardo Da Vinci.

The Da Vinci Disappearance will include both single-player and multiplayer content including a new multiplayer map, four new characters and two new game modes.

The plot of the singe player adventure goes as follows: After the fall of the Borgias in Rome, Leonardo Da Vinci is kidnapped by the Hermeticists, an underground cult dedicated to transforming mankind; Ezio will embark on a “relentless quest” to recover stolen paintings in order to find the inventor, discovering two new locations and “two new gameplay features” along the way.

The new map is called Alhambra and is described as a “lush environment” set in Spain’s Albaicin of Granada, and it will provide multileveled indoor/outdoor areas.

New characters include Dama Rossa, the Knight, the Marquis and the Pariah.

The two new gameplay modes the Leonardo DLC will include are Escort and Assassinate. In Escort mode, two teams of four players compete to protect their own VIP target or assassinate the other team’s. Assassinate mode includes 6-8 players fighting in a deathmatch for ten minute rounds.

The Da Vinci Disappearance will cost 800 MSP or $9.99.

Expect this to be a big hit. Leonardo Da Vinci is both a very popular video game and real life character. This is a day one buy for me!

Crysis 2 Map DLC Already Planned?

During the last 24-32 hours Crytek’s upcoming blockbuster shooter Crysis 2 was revealed in perhaps one of the biggest pre-release leaks in recent history.

Well aside from the general gameplay footage leaks people are starting to find all sorts of things including map editing tools, gameplay tweaking mechanics and now a possible DLC folder has been found. Located in the below image is a list of all the single player campaign maps as well as a folder titled “DLC”.

Inside this directory is another bunch of separately named files that don’t however show up as multiplayer or singleplayer levels leading many people to believe that Crytek and EA have downloadable content plans for Crysis 2 already. Check it out below.

The Top Ten Best Call of Duty Multiplayer Maps

Call of Duty is a massive franchise, and that goes without saying… Wait, I said it anyway. The series boasts eight games, millions of hours of gameplay, and arguably some of the greatest multiplayer maps in the history of first-person shooters. RipTen’s own Bryce Wilson has taken on the difficult task of sorting through all of them and choosing what he believes to be the ten best maps in gaming’s best selling franchise. Enjoy!

The following maps are stock maps that shipped with the Call of Duty series. Many a gamer has fragged, tagged and died a thousand deaths on the maps below, and we’re sure they will get you thinking about your personal favorites, so make sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Like many of the Call of Duty 2 maps, Toujane is a maze of tight winding corridors and buildings, that didn’t always work to the players advantage. The many accessible rooftops and hidden alleyways made ambush opportunities all too common for the better teams, whilst those who weren’t so alert were bound to perish in the unforgiving narrow paths.

Toujane was perfect for Capture the Flag and objective based gametypes as both the British and German players scrambled for the higher ground to lock the map down.

Cliffside was exactly that – set on the side of a cliff high above razor sharp rocks and coral. This primarily bushy map was the scene of many an incredibly close objective based game. Players could go along the left hand side and fight it out through the rocks, down the right hand side and battle for supremacy with low visibility in the bushes or play Russian Roulette and try and dash up the middle to catch the enemy unawares.

World at War played host to a number of high quality maps for both casual and competitive gameplay including Hangar, Asylum and Upheaval. Check out some amazing high level competitive gameplay featuring ‘x space x’ courtesy of CyberGamer Australia right here.

Grid takes place on a Russian power station located near Pripyat, home of the “Ghillies in the Mist” and “One Shot, One Kill” missions from CoD4: Modern Warfare. Filled with a number of hangers and buildings, Grid is perfect for tactical stealth gameplay that favors the co-operative teams. With a primarily snow based field of terrain, Grid is perfect for snipers to hang around on the outskirts eliminating anyone careless enough to leave the safety of the two large office buildings.

Eder Dam is one of, if not the most popular map in Call of Duty 3. Situated around a bombed out WW2 dam, Eder Dam allowed players to mount jeeps and .50 cal machine guns on the back opening up a whole host of strategic options for players that worked as a team. The main center of action however was a partially destroyed bridge that allowed players to fight both in and on top of the focal point of the map. Long lines of sight and wide open areas made Eder Dam a haven for sniper rifles and semi-automatic weapons.

For any of those people who didn’t get a chance to play Call of Duty 3, here’s some gameplay to let you know what Eder Dam was like back in the day…

During the development of Modern Warfare 2, Terminal was the one map I was actually beyond excited to play. A plane you could have shootouts in was like something from a movie, and something I’d always wanted to see in a game, and now Infinity Ward was doing it!

Set in the same environment as the infamous ‘No Russian’ level, Terminal featured a primarily indoors and up close and personal experience that not only allowed players to shoot it out, but also throw grenades across the map thanks to many of the rooms having a roof constructed of glass. This worked against both teams though as air-support could easily reign down death from the sky. Add in a few tricky hiding spots around the airplane itself and you’ve got one of the most hectic maps in CoD history.

Summit was one of the first maps shown during the development cycle for Call of Duty: Black Ops and it may be the finest map in the game. Just like Cliffside in World at War, Sumit takes place at a high altitude serviceable only via a cable car (That you can also hide in!)

Summit takes place in the single player campaign level ‘WMD’, and the environment of this map is much the same as the campaign level. Most of the action takes place in the above pictured computer room however and sometimes the spawns will focus the combat outside around the helipad. Summit is a great level for Domination and makes for some very tense games of Capture the Flag.

Not many of the Modern Warfare 2 maps really stood out in terms of quality and gameplay. However, Skidrow certainly did. Set in an urban environment filled with tight combat opportunities, Skidrow primarily suited assault rifles and sub machine-guns however many players made good use of sniper rifles down the main hallway and tunnel on the right hand side. Many a claymore has been stepped on in the hallways of those burned out apartments and you’d be less than wise to venture out into the open courtyard pictured above.

Skidrow was also the home to many high intensity competitive matches with the defending team always fighting hard to keep the attackers out of the buildings. Check out some Machinima gameplay on Skidrow courtesy of Junkyard129 right here, it’s not the best – but his commentary is great.

They say nothing is perfect, but then maybe not everyone has played Backlot. Featuring a half finished building and short lines of sight, Backlot was the ultimate test to gamers when it came to reaction time and skill. A number of grenade spots allowed those talented enough to throw balls of death across the map, whilst bombsites in perfect places made defending and defusing the bomb the ultimate adrenaline rush when it came to Search and Destroy.

Alongside Crash from the same game, Backlot remains one of the most popular maps in Call of Duty 4 and possibly the whole series.

Based upon a real town located in Normandy, Carentan was a major objective of the WWII Normandy landings. Featured in Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4 as Chinatown (reskinned), Carentan is a veteran map of the series. Featuring long lines of sight for rifle firefights, intense house to house combat that accommodated sub-machine gun and shotgun gameplay – Carentan really had something for every type of player.

Carentan also went on to be featured in the popular US TV series “The Office”. Check out the clip of it here.

So much is right about Crash, and there’s very little wrong with it. The downed US helicopter sets the scene for hectic firefights from building to building, while the three-story tower becomes pivotal for locking down movement from a number of angles and positions. A number of ‘wallbang’ spots allowed players to shoot the enemy off the spawn through the blue building, essentially forcing everyone into the left corridor of death where snipers would get you anyway.

The key to survival? Keep your eyes open and your trigger finger itchy. Crash is also featured in another map based editorial on RipTen where it took a spot in our Top 10 FPS Multiplayer Maps of All Time.

TRON: Evolution Expanding with 5 New Multiplayer Maps

Adding to the 6 maps released with the game, the developers of TRON: Evolution will be releasing five more multiplayer maps for your consumption in the upcoming weeks. No price or official date has been announced, but a few details on what the maps will provide and some screenshots have been released, so I can’t imagine they’re too far off.

Skyline: On the upper echelons of TRON City, combatants deftly navigate massive gaps among rooftops while battling.

Spires: A Nexus Stream maintenance spire hangs precariously under the expanse of Arjia City. Vertical mobility is the key to survive.

Classic: The first-generation game grid meets the next generation of grid combatants.

Relic: A legacy of the past, the original game grid is slowly being eaten away by the Outlands.

Drydock: In a highly secure part of the Grid, Clu’s Regulator is nearing the final phases of its construction.

The Top 10 FPS Multiplayer Maps of All Time

When we buy our First Person Shooter games we know in the back of the head the maps are going to get really old really fast. Everyone will camp in the same spots, throw grenades over certain walls and shoot through certain windows.

When we first buy a new First Person Shooter we know that the mulitplayer component of the game is going to be the most important. The campaign is breezed through and is only exciting once, where as the multiplayer is constantly changing and evolving, offering new and exciting challenges. With that being said, the maps within the game can do a lot for the overall enjoyment of a title, so RipTen has compiled a list of ten maps that we think still stand the test of time and always provide a spurt of awesome.

10) Guardian – Halo 3

Guardian was the official Halo 3 MLG 1v1 Map. Featuring 2 real areas, the upstairs and downstairs. The map featured tight movement zones, excellent weapon spawns and numerous jumps that were difficult to perform but were crucial if you needed to get from one place to another in a crazy amount of time. This was the ultimate “party map” in the sense you could fire up a 1v1 with a friend on split screen and not have to worry about spending long amounts of time hunting each other down. And besides, who doesn’t like playing Rockets on Guardian with 12 people!?

9) Tokay’s Tower – Quake II

If you are a full on Quake II fan it goes without saying that you’ve probably played the crap out of Tokay’s Tower. It’s just a spiral up and down filled with rockets, railguns, madness and death! If you were lucky enough to not fall to your death you were probably going to cop a mouthful of splash damage from one of your foes as he nimbly jumps around the map with a Rocket Launcher. Many a fun LAN have been spent just playing round after round and bragging to your friends about how good you are and all of a sudden you’re dead too!

8) 2fort – Team Fortress

2fort is probably one of, if not the most beloved map in PC Gaming. Managing to deliver the ultimate experience in symetrical base versus base combat, both forts have numerous entrances and pathways but everyone knows the real combat just ends up happening over the bridge between the two. The key to victory, survival and the best K/D? Teamwork.

MGO Beta Free Download For All Europeans: No Pre-Order Needed

Well here’s some great news for the often forgotten Europeans. Although North American’s must pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4 to access the Metal Gear Online Beta, Europeans will be able to download the Beta for free, and with no need for a code. Follow the jump for more information.

In reporting new information on the Playstation Store relaunch and its included content, there was a nugget of information that would be easily overlooked if it wasn’t spelled out. Sony Europe confirmed that the Metal Gear Online Beta would be available on April 17th, but we presumed this would only be for thos who pre-ordered.

We then realised that, as of yet, there were no reports of Beta Codes in Europe. Konami thus made things all the clearer today, saying that the “Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta will be available as a free download on the Playstation Store from April 17th until May 6th.” The Beta itself will begin on April 21st (plenty of time to get hold of this presumably very popular download) and end on May 6th.

The beta phase features two maps, four gameplay modes, the SOP System that encourages up to 16 players to team up and share information, and deep skill-customization. Also equipped with auto-matching and training modes, the game offers players a sneak peak of this totally new approach to console-based competitive gaming.

Bring on the Metal Gear Online Beta for all Europeans (and hopefully others in the Pal region, including Australia) and those North Americans who were clever enough to pre-order. Take that Chad!

Call of Duty 4 DLC – 9 New Map Screens

We just received an email from Activision’s PR department containing 9 new screenshots of their upcoming DLC map pack for the hit game, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, due to hit XBL on April 10th. The four maps included in the pack are Kill Creek, Broadcast, Chinatown, and Killhouse.

The maps themselves offer a good variety and all the detail you have come to expect from Infinity Ward. Kill Creek and Broadcast are featured in the majority of the screens, however from what little we have seen of Killhouse and Chinatown, they look pretty interesting as well.

Call of Duty 4 DLC Confirmed: New Maps On The Way

We’ve just received word that the hot game known as Call of Duty 4, you know the one that took the burn out of Halo 3 sales for a week, is going to be getting some fully-baked Downloadable Content.

From what we’ve been told, you should expect to see a few maps warmed and ready for picking in the foreseeable future.

Besides confirming that it’s coming to both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, we didn’t get much else besides this spicy little quotation:

The upcoming downloadable content will thrust gamers into a hot zone of added combat across a variety of intense multiplayer locales.

Thrusting in hot zones? Count me in! Let’s just hope they go uphill with the quality and make it hot hot hot.

Halo Now Playable on PS3: Via UT3

In an odd turn of events for non-PS3 games making their way to the console, the Halo map “Wizard” is now playable in Unreal Tournament 3. Should this awaken Microsoft lawyers? We hope not.

The beauty of Unreal Tournament 3 is that the PC community can create maps for PS3 owners to play. It’s such a revolutionary setup for consoles, that you’re really getting a lot of bang for your buck with this insane multiplayer experience.

Now a Halo map has been created from scratch for the game:

This is a remake of the Halo map named Wizard. This was a great close quarters map and I felt it would be right at home with Unreal Tournament 3.

This also has full bot pathing so you can play singleplayer without having to find a server with someone hosting this map.
