Is Mega Man X Coming to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Sorta…

It’s been a tough year for Mega Man fans. First, Capcom canceled Mega Man Legends 3 and blamed the fans for it. Then, Mega Man was left out of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 despite fans going wild for the Blue Bomber. Oh, then there was that “Boxart Mega Man” thing happening with Street Fighter x Tekken.

Now, Capcom is taunting fans again with a Mega Man X Skin for Zero in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It’s bad enough that they are still peddling these skin packs, but to toss Mega Man in there as a tease? It’s just mean.

If you want to delude yourself, though, you can grab the Weapon Master Skin Pack, which also includes alternate looks for Trish, Hawkeye, Taskmaster. It’s priced at 320msp on Xbox Live and $3.99 on the Playstation Network.

Street Fighter x Tekken Gets Mega Man, Pac-Man as Sony Exclusives – Trailer

Fighting games with console exclusive characters are slowly becoming a thing. Soul Calibur IV did the whole Star Wars things with Darth Vader on PS3 and Yoda on Xbox 360 (presumably due to their natural color schemes) and Mortal Kombat had Kratos exclusively on PS3.

This time around Street Fighter x Tekken is getting a rather healthy cache of Sony exclusives including Mega Man… Okay now that that’s sunk in, his character is based on the US version Mega Man 1 box art. Which means he’s really goofy looking, and frankly rather out of shape. His Namco counterpart will be Pac-Man… Alright, cool, but not just Pac-Man in all his spherical glory, but Pac-Man atop Mokujin, the wooden block character from previous Tekken games. These two inclusions, while awesome shout outs to Capcom and Namco fans, are also a little zany. Hopefully they’ll be worthwhile characters to play, but at least they won’t be alone in the exclusives realm, joining Cole from Infamous and Kuro/Toro (strange Sony cat things) as PS3 and PS Vita exclusives. What a world we live in.

NYCC 11: Phoenix Wright and Nova Revealed for Ultimate MvC3 – Trailers and Screens

Capcom has released a whole bunch of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 assets including trailers and screens introducing new characters Nova and Phoenix Wright.

Nova represents Marvel and is a member of an intergalactic police force. His powers enhanced strength, flight, injury resistance, and a specialized uniform. Representing Capcom is no other than ace attorney Phoenix Wright. Any objections you may have are quickly adjourned as you watch how awesomely silly his move set is in the videos below.

If you pay close attention to the first trailer you may see a teaser for a previously unannounced fighter (also in the last screen shot).

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this November. Enjoy the screenshots and trailers below.

While I still don’t think he holds a candle to Mega Man himself (or Mr. Enrique Iglesias for that matter), this picture of Zero is certainly a start. Perhaps it’s time to give this sword-swingin’, ponytail-sportin’ second starter a second chance.

Capcom Cancels Yet Another Mega Man

Capcom strikes again. Mega Man Legends 3 for the 3DS bites the dust.

The story sounds oddly familiar. This is probably because this is the second Mega Man title that Capcom has cancelled in the past four months.

Capcom relayed this news to the Mega Man Legends 3 “Devroom”, a place where Mega Man fans could submit ideas for the game’s developers to consider.

Now, just days before Comic-Con, Capcom has thrown it all back in Mega Man fans’ faces, stating that the project was cancelled because

“…the MML3 Project was intended to give gamers across the world insight and input into the development process. Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.”

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game.”

Capcom, even going to each of your fans’ homes, taking a dump on their beds, and then rubbing it in to ensure stains would have been better received than this news. You can’t promise to include your fans on every step of development of a game and then shut them out moments before the game’s demo is released. You’ve just succeeded in alienating every single one of your fanboys and girls out there, the same people that would rabidly white knight their way through thick and thin for you, valiantly defending your honor against haters. Yet, fanboys and girls, when they’re spurned in the worst way possible (as you just have done), will rage into psycho-haters… and how can you blame them? They’ve been loyally exalting you for years and yet you’ve done nothing in return for them.

I think it’s safe to say that a lot of them are lighting torches in anger riiiiiight about now.

Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version Coming To Nintendo eShop!

Capcom has just announced that Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will be released alongside the launch of the Nintendo eShop. The Nintendo eShop is a new digital download service that Nintendo will be releasing this May for the Nintendo 3DS. Capcom promises that Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will include the following:

Players will be introduced to a new character, Barrett, a reckless leader of a sky biker gang.
Try out Barrett’s close combat fighting style.
Multiple “Core” Missions.
Unfinished “Bonus” areas to explore.
A Debug menu that will give players access to special moves and abilities.

Mega Man Universe Has Been Cancelled

Nobody’s world will be Mega-fied this year. Capcom has just announced that Mega Man Universe has been cancelled.

According to reports on Andriasang,

In a post at the game’s official site today, Capcom listed the reason for the cancelation as a vague “various circumstances.”

Mega Man Universe was going to be a very community centric game. Players would be allowed to create and share their own levels online and play as tons of different characters from the Mega Man (and Capcom) universe and even create their own custom characters.

I was there when they revealed the game and San Diego Comic Con 2010, and also got to play a bit of the game with Capcom during the week of New York Comic Con. Some of the concepts were pretty cool, and it was definitely funny to play as “Bad Box Art” Megaman for a few levels.

However, the whole concept felt a bit like an over-hyped gimmick that would never really translate into a profit. To be honest, I’m not surprised the game has been cancelled and it was likely the right move.

It probably doesn’t help that Keiji Inafune is no longer with Capcom either.

Keiji Inafune Says Goodbye To Capcom

Keiji Inafune, best known for creating the legendary Mega-Man and producing the hilarious zombie slaying game Dead Rising has just announced on his personal blog that he is to resign from his position at Capcom.

He joined Capcom 23 years ago as a character designer working his way into the prestigious role of head of Research & Development and Online Business, as well as Global Head of Production. In his goodbye post, Inafune cites Capcom as a great company, stating that he loves it “probably more then anyone else”.

As for his reason for leaving, he states he has no steps left to climb as he’s already reached the highest level in game development. Inafune will be resigning officially later this month, also stating there wont be a chance that he will ever return to Capcom.

I’m sure all of us here at RipTen can respect the work hes done for our industry, and we’ll be sad to see him go.

While we here in the states refer to the Blue Bomber as Mega Man, it seems only right to refer to him by his Japanese moniker, Rockman, as it’s also plastered in the background of this very awesome realistic take on Rockman and his robotic foes.

Sweet Tooth for Gaming? Have a Mega Man on a Stick

Let’s be honest: whenever you play a Mega Man game, you’re thinking how delicious he looks, right? Well, that’s apparently what one candy maker at the Tokyo Game Show is betting on.

At the Capcom event today the candy maker was making popular video game icons into confectionery treats. Other candies on display included Ailu from Monster Hunter, Amatersau from Okami and the Umbrella Corporation logo from Resident Evil. Sorry guys, no Jill Valentine.

iPhone Game Sale: Gameloft and Capcom

The picks of the litter are Modern Combat, a decent little FPS game which works surprisingly well for an iPhone shooter, and Mega Man II. I’ve not played it on the iPhone, but Mega Man II is the best Mega Man game. Don’t agree? Then you’re wrong.

Mega Man Online, MMORPG Announced for Japan

With the MMORPG market booming and Blizzard taking in over 1.5 billion dollars revenue a year, it’s no surprise that more and more parties start jumping aboard the cash train.

In April of 2010, Capcom trademarked “Mega Man Universe” which caused pretty much everyone with half a brain to guess an MMO was on the cards. Well, everyone with said half brain was correct, as today Capcom punched their ticket-to-ride the train by announcing “Mega Man Online” for the Japan region — though they failed to announce it for anywhere else just yet.

Information is scarce at the moment, however it was confirmed that the MMORPG wouldn’t be 3D, but more akin to side-scroller “MapleStory”. So far in terms of RPG, all we know is that players will level up, although that’s a pretty redundant statement in an MMORPG. No characters except for the namesake of the series have been confirmed, but you could probably comfortably guess the usual bunch will be there to partake.

As the year progresses, so will information on the game. Still, I can’t help but wonder if a Mega Man rehash of this nature is just going to be a flat out failure if the large fan base flat out doesn’t approve.

Street Fighter and Mega Man Have Drunken One-Night Stand, This is the Result

Alright, I concede, it didn’t happen. If it did, however, I’m sure this would be the result: Mega Man-inspired Street Fighter 4 sprites. “ReyArt aka SpeedBrkr (aka Arthur)” has created these things, and left billions wondering “how has this not happened up until now?”

Similarly user “Sonic_e7″ has put together animated versions, which could also perhaps be considered to be quite good. Maybe.

This is a video. It involves teaching the Alphabet to using Mega Man bosses. It is awesome and much better than our dirty socialist public school system can do. I would have learned much more gooder if they taught me things using Mega Man, instead I had to wait until I was paying a thousand dollars a credit hour to take any classes about Mega Man. Thanks Temple. Although, maybe if we could work this into more classes kids would learn something. If the boss robots of Mega Man taught history, I can pretty much guarantee that more than half our country would be able to name the first president of the United States or who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Mega Man 10 Digital Download Hits PSN, XBL, & WiiWare March 2010

The latest installment of Capcom’s Mega Man franchise continues its retro gaming approach with Mega Man 10 due to hit Nintendo’s WiiWare, Sony’s PlayStation Network, and Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE service in March of 2010. Mega Man E-Tank Truck Cruises Around LA

There’s marketing done right, and then there’s marketing done awesome. Capcom seems to know the difference and sent this beautiful monstrosity for a ride through the city.

Folks apparently lined up at 10AM on the day of the VGAs, but the Mega Man-themed ice cream truck didn’t hit the streets until after 2PM, leaving the fans waiting in the rain for a good fours. When the truck finally arrived, they handed out energy drinks (very fitting) and E-tank boxes will apparently contained Mega Man t-shirts, before heading off to the VGAs.
