New Video Game Releases: Dec. 12 – Dec. 18

Welcome to another sleepy week of December releases. One that, unless you like Gears 3 or interested in playing a real life guitar, there is little to see here.

The biggest (and only) multiplatform release this week is Rocksmith which becomes available for PC gamers. Meanwhile, Rocksmith (The Complete Real Guitar Kit) releases for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Gears of War fans get a nice little early present as the Gears of War 3: Raam’s Shadow DLC becomes available for the Xbox 360 this week. Included in this DLC is six new multiplayer characters, a new weapon set named “Chocolate”, new achievements, and over 3 hours of singleplayer gameplay. The story takes place before the first Gears of War, with gamers playing as the infamous Locust General Raam.

Pick of the Week: If I wanted to learn how to play the guitar, (or had the time and patience to learn) I’d probably be interested in the Rocksmith Real Guitar Kit. As it is I’m a big fan of Gears of War and I can’t wait to get my hands on the Gears of War 3: Raam’s Shadow DLC.

New Video Game Releases: Nov. 14 – Nov. 20

Another release week in November means another exciting week for gamers. With the conclusion of Ezio’s Assassin’s Creed Saga, the celebrated Xbox 360 revisit to the original Halo and Link’s return to the Nintendo Wii, gamers on every major platform should be happy.

With a release next Sunday, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is obviously the most high profile release of the week. With the anticipation of Link’s first tailor made Wii adventure, coupled with outstanding reviews and the fact that over 100 million Wii gamers have been waiting for a quality title for quite a while, you have to figure Zelda could easily move over 20 million units in the next year. Now that’s a big release.

The Assassin’s Creed Saga has played out through three different games with two different main characters. Ezio and his modern descendant Desmond who have highlighted the past couple games will make their last appearance in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Master Chief, never before has such an iconic character had such a lackluster name. The original Halo redefined the console First Person Shooter by perfecting the control scheme and making it fun. With the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary you can return to those glory days with upgraded graphics on the Xbox 360.

With giant dildo weapons, Burt F***ing Reynolds and Professor Genki, Saints Row: The Third promises to be what GTAIV wasn’t - ridiculously fun and over the top. Will THQ’s offering deliver? Find out this week as it releases for the Xbox 360, PC and PS3.

Pick of the Week: I have to admit, I am drawn like a moth to a flame to the Skyward Sword. Perhaps I can once again dust off my neglected Wii and play as one of Nintendo’s iconic characters. But something has happened since I last played a Zelda game. I have found other characters whose sequels actually build upon stories laid out by the previous iterations. Ezio is a character I’ve grown closer to and I can’t wait to continue his story in Assassin’s Creed Revelations.

New Video Game Releases: Nov. 7 – Nov. 13

The first full week of November explodes onto the scene as perhaps the biggest release week of the year. Whether you are fighting your enemies in a large scale military conflict, sneaking behind them with the silence of a snake, or with medieval sharpened steel – this release week definitely has something for you.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will undoubtedly become one of the best selling games of the year. Despite internal problems which involved the loss of most of the developing studio and subsequent lawsuits, MW3 promises a revamped online experience and a campaign which teases World War 3. Will CoD: MW3 live up to the hype? PC, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 gamers will have an opportunity this week to find out.

Few games have garnered as much attention as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls role-playing video game series promises to continue the open world gameplay that has distinguished the series. Skyrim will be available on the PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

Snaaake, SNAAAAAKE! The series that first first defined stealth gameplay gets an HD Collection with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. This HD collection includes Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and the former PSP exclusive masterpiece Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and releases on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Pick of the Week: This is a tough one for me. The Modern Warfare series has always distinguished itself from the typical FPS with frantic fast-paced action mixed with an absolutely shocking and awe-inspiring campaign adventure. I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed Hideo Kojima‘s Metal Gear Solid series. With among the craziest group of video game bosses and a main character inspired by Kurt Russel‘s lovable anti-hero Snake Plissken (from Escape from New York and LA), this series has never disappointed. But there is something to be said about Skyrim. The game has been enjoying a tremendous amount of hype and looks to be deserving every bit of it. Besides, I live in Bethesda Maryland, the supposed home of Bethesda Softworks (they are actually located in nearby Rockville, MD). So, this week’s pick? The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The final full week of October brings with it an innumerable number of releases anchored by one of the most anticipated shooters of the year – Battlefield 3. Whether you are looking to shoot it out or battle on the dance floor this release week has something for you.

The Battlefield series has garnered exceptional notoriety for creating enjoyable shooters which seamlessly integrate vehicles into online muliplayer play. DICE has polished Battlefield 3 to include an involving single player campaign so as to set a spectacular showdown with Modern Warfare 3. Whether or not they are up for the task will be evaluated across the world as BF3 and the Battlefield 3: Back to Karkland DLC release on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

“Everybody dance now! Bomp Bomp Bomp-Bomp-Bomp!” In the history of mankind there have never been more dance games released in a calendar week. Whether it is Dance Central 2 (Kinect), Just Dance Kids 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii), Grease (PS3, Xbox 360), or Country Dance 2 (Wii), gamers have options to find a dance game to fit their needs.

Other notable release this week include Serious Sam: The Random Encounter (PC), Back to the Future: The Game (Wii, PS3), inFAMOUS 2: Festival of Blood DLC (PS3), Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Xbox 360), Kirby’s Return to Dream Land (Wii) and The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut (PS3).

Pick of the Week: As a gamer who has purchased every Call of Duty game in the past five years, but has yearned for something more; Battlefield 3′s inclusion of spectacular vehicular action and a bold single player campaign is just too good to ignore – Battlefield 3

New Video Game Releases: 8/29 – 9/5

As the East Coast of the US recovers from a double heaping of natural disasters (Hurriquakepocalypse), it’s nice to settle with another release week.

The ground is rumbling and the screams of millions fill the air, is it another earthquake? No, it is the latest installment of the perennial pigskin classic Madden NFL 12. Should it sell well? You betcha. After a potential season cancelling labor dispute was settled earlier this summer, gridiron fans will flock to this in droves to purchase it on the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and PS2 (yeah, after 11 years it’s still ticking).

Codemasters unleashes Bodycount for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. Set to rip apart the First Person Shooter genre with an orgy of bullets and destruction, Bodycount blasts outrageous action and spectacular fire-fights from both barrels.

Other big releases this week include 4 Elements HD for the PS3 and, Air Conflicts: Secret War, Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection, The baconing for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The Wii releases Get fit with Mel B and a number of great new Nintendo Selects.

Pick of the Week: Bodycount releases this week but for better or worse it is just another shooter. Critics may complain the Madden NFL series is just a re-release of the same game with a few extra features, but it is what the people want. When you see the PS2 get a release you know it’s got to mean something. Make mine Madden – Madden NFL 12.

It’s not always size that matters (that’s what she said), but often what is done with what you have. Even with a scant four releases this week, this release week is not one to be ignored. The highest profile release this week is Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the PC, Ps3 and Xbox 360. The prequel to the popular Deus Ex, Human Revolution has been turning heads with its sharp graphics and and Sci-Fi cyberpunk styling. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition has been described as “a love letter to fans” and will include vast improvements over the original with new menu art and HD remastered graphics for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

3DS gamers looking for something to play have Shin Megami tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked and DS gamers get Call of Atlantis.

Pick of the Week: While there is no doubt that I will purchase the updated Street Fighter III: Third Strike: Online Edition, the atmosphere and immersion of Deus Ex: Human Revolution is just too good to ignore – Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

New Video Game Releases 8/8 – 8/14

The Summer temperatures may be soaring across the continental US but releases sure are cooling until the September surge. After such a stressful week with the last minute debt ceiling debate and subsequent credit downgrade by Standard and Poors (Boo, but a AA ain’t bad – when I was in school an A- made me more than happy) gamers are looking for something to work their frustrations out on. Enter Fruit Ninja Kinect – a game that has enjoyed much success on the iOS and a needed game to justify the purchase of Microsoft’s disappointing peripheral. Xbox 360 gamers also get the satisfaction of the headshot with the Extended Edition of Sniper: Ghost Warrior.

The Nintendo DS makes a showing with the largest number of releases this week including: Picture Puzzle Collection, Puzzler World 2, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, The Mysterious Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Touch N Play Collection, Zoonies: Escape from Makatu (DSiWare).

Sorry Sony and Nintendo gamers, but the PS3, PSP, 3DS and Wii are featuring NADA. No, it’s not the title of a new RTS game but the Spanish word for nothing or as I like to put it, an acronym meaning Nothing And Don’t Ask.

Pick of the Week: Yep, the pickings are slim, but I own a Kinect and would actually like to use it now and then. I’ve played Fruit Ninja on the iPad and found it enjoyable - Fruit Ninja Kinect.

New Video Game Releases 6/20 – 6/26

Father’s Day opens a release week full of games new and old. Sam Fisher, Link, Point Man… but who will headline the Pick of the Week?

F.E.AR. 3 brings it’s unique brand of Action horror to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Action RPG fans will delight with the release of Dungeon Siege III for the PC, Ps3 and 360. EA introduces a new survival horror franchise with the release of Shadows of the Damned for the PS3 and 360 and PlayStation gamers get another HD classic update with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD.

The movie tie in of the week is Cars 2: The Video Game for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS. Gamers looking to get to get in shape can train with their favorite MMA fighters with UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System. Last but certainly not least, those who own Nintendo’s 3DS get the long awaited The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Is it time I drop the PSP? Hasn’t had a release in over a month.

Pick of the Week: This is a tough one. While I enjoyed the original F.E.A.R, I found the sequel lacking. Having the Point Man reunited with his dead brother is intriguing. Link rescuing Zelda in 3D? Sorry, not a big fan of the small screen. The original Splinter Cell games inspired me to get an Xbox back in the day and Sam Fisher is voiced by acting great Michael Ironside. It’s a tough choice, count it as another stealth kill by Sam Fisher - Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD.

New Video Game Releases 6/6 – 6/12 (E3 2011 Edition)

The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011 is set to begin, yet so is a release week with plenty of win. This isn’t one of those throw-away weeks that that we’ve experienced many this year so far and the PlayStation 3 leads the charge. Not only does the electrifying exclusive Infamous 2 hit Sony’s flagship console, but PlayStation gamers also get Beyond Good & Evil in HD.

The big multiplatform releases this week include Red Faction: Armageddon, Operation Flashpoint: Red River for the PC, PS3 and Xbox and the movie tie in Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters for the PS3, Xbox, Wii, DS and 3Ds.

A big week for DLC as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops — Call of the Dead and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow- Resurrection both become available on Xbox Live and PSN (Yes, PSN is back up!).

Pick of The Week: There are more than a few things I am excited about this week: Castlevania: LoS Resurrection concludes the story of Gabriel Belmont and although I was disappointed with Reverie, something tells me Konami will do this one right. CoD: Black Ops — Call of the Dead – more CoD zombies…bring it on! But the game that excites me the most is Infamous 2. Anyone who missed the first game should pick it up as part of the Welcome Back Program.

New Video Game Releases 5/30 – 6/5

The final release week of May ushers in the unofficial seasonal change to Summer, Memorial Day, and (unfortunately) precious few big new video game releases.

The big multiplatform release this week is Bethesda‘s 3rd party Co-op fantasy dungeon slasher titled Hunted: The Demon’s Forge for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II gets a simultaneous portable release on both the 3DS and PSP (Yes the PSP gets it’s first release in almost a month).

PS3 owners will finally (cross your fingers yet again) finally have access via the PS Store to highly acclaimed games such as Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale and Outland. PC gamers get access to Back to the Future: The Game-Episode 5: Outatime and BioShock 2: Minerva’s Den.

Pick of The Week: When I think back on some of my most enjoyable gaming experiences they mostly involve Co-op play and fighting waves of enemies – Hunted: The Demon’s Forge it is. Bethesda, don’t let me down. We share the same hometown.

New Video Game Releases 5/16 – 5/22

The second week of May plays host to a few major releases. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers have the excitement of playing Rockstar‘s long awaited L.A. Noire. Worried about how good it is considering the four year wait? I’ve got three words for you – Red Dead Redemption. It’s also time for some DLC as Bethesda releases Fallout: New Vegas: Honest Hearts which will be available on Xbox Live, PSN (whenever the PlayStation Store is back up) and the PC.

PC Gamers have an equally big release as Geralt of Rivia returns in uber HD glory with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Don’t forget about the PC release of Fable III.

Pick of The Week: Rockstar’s L.A. Noire has quite the allure and wouldn’t be right not to choose… but when I think of The Witcher and all its beautiful pictures the choice I have made can’t lose – The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

Another Release Week begins with a shout out to all the Mothers in the world (not including Mother F’ers)! To prep us for the new movie coming this summer the big release this week is LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean on every conceivable platform. Is it just me or do Lego Movie games tend to buck the Movie tie in curse most of the time? After that Brink is another big one as Bethesda Softworks releases their anticipated Sci-Fi Shooter for the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC. Don’t forget MX vs ATV Alive for the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Pick of The Week: Yo ho, a Lego Pirate’s Life is not for me! No offense. LEGO games are fine and everything but just not my pick of the week. I live in Bethesda, I like Bethesda Softworks and I like Shooters - Brink!

New Video Game Releases 5/2 – 5/8

Hey, ho…let’s go. Another week brings more releases and despite being out of town ( in Cali this weekend), I’m still here to give you the 411 on what you can expect to be out this week.

Like Superheroes? I do, and the big multiplatform release this week is the Nordic god of thunder Thor in game titled Thor: God of Thunder. If it’s anything like the movie (which is getting great reviews), this might be one to look out for. Unfortunately, movie tie-ins almost always suck.

Anyway, Xbox 360 gamers get their hands on the timed exclusive dlc Call of Duty: Black Ops: Escalation – new zombie map people!! With the return of the PSN, PS3 owners finally get their hands on Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and Yar’s Revenge plus the new Stacking: The Lost Hobo king. Last, and pretty much least, Hunting season starts this week for Wii owners as Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska.

Pick of the Week: Remington Super Slam Hunting: Alaska…kidding. I’ll go with Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath for the second week in a row because it really didn’t have an opportunity to come out last week.

New Video Game Releases: 4/25 – 5/1

Happy Holidays to those who celebrate Easter, have just finished Passover and most importantly my Birthday (yep, I’m another year older)! Unfortunately that may be all to celebrate as this release week sucks eggs.

The big release this week is Darkspore on PC. EA’s darker take on the Spore universe. Not to be outdone however is Man vs. Wild in which TV hero Bear Grylls takes on the most ferocious creatures on god’s green earth with just his wits and a stick for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. PS3 gamers return to Oddworld with Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath and revisit an early classic with Yar’s Revenge – both I’m sure will be entirely enjoyable once the PSN finally gets back on track.

Pick of the Week – This is a tough one and not because there are a number of good choices, but I’ll take Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath because I never had the chance to play the original on Xbox.

Final Fantasy III Now Available on iPad

Square-Enix announced today that Final Fantasy III, originally released in 1990 (JPN) and re-released on the DS in 2006 (USA), has now been released worldwide for the iPad (yay). The iPhone/iPod Touch version came out last month and it plays wonderfully.

The iPad version of Final Fantasy III has better 3-D graphics to take advantage of the iPad’s increased power in comparison to the DS, and is known by many as one of the best Final Fantasy games there is. The Final Fantasy class system was pioneered in III and allows characters to change jobs at any point. The immersive and memorable story has also captivated many fans both new and old.

Final Fantasy III is available for $16.99 on the App Store right meow.

Hey, woah… this might be one of the worst release weeks that I’ve ever written about. The PS3 and Xbox 360 boast a combined release number of three games - including such high profile releases like StarDrone (PSN), Carnival Games: Monkey See, Monkey Do (Kinect), and The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile (XBLA). It seems the only noteworthy releases include Super Meat Boy (Ultra Edition) (PC) and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3D (3DS).

Even though we covered the new releases for the 3DS in last week’s edition, we decided to cover it again this week (as it is today) – that’s not to say this is a slack week. A HUGE release week as gamers can finally get their hands on more than a few much anticipated releases and Nintendo Finally unleashes their revolutionary new handheld the 3DS!

While not as big as the Blockbuster Shoot-em-up of last week, this week puts up a pretty good fight. Fight Night Champion brings the sweet science of some of the most famous fighters of all time to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Bear Grylls fights off the best mother nature has to offer in Man vs. Wild for the PS3 and Wii. Join the Space Marines as they fight for humanity’s survival in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II — Retribution for the PC. Battle for Pokemon Supremacy against team Rocket with Pokemon Black and White for the DS. And PS3 owners can finally add to the CoD Blops fight with the Fist Strike DLC.

Pick of the week: Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. I can’t wait to pwn noobs as Muhammed Ali. -Fight Night Champion
