Prototype 2′s Radnet Edition Has 55 Pieces of Content

Most special editions to video games usually offer one or two pieces of content. A soundtrack here, an art book there. Prototype 2 isn’t content with that, so they’re offering up 55 pieces of varied content. The Radnet Edition will come with:

Weekly events, a la Halo Reach
Friend vs. Friend challenges
Weekly rewards
Bonus mutations for James Heller
Behind the scenes videos

Free content will also depend on the version of the game you get. Xbox 360 owners will get Avatar items, PS3 owners will get five exclusive animated themes. If you participate in all of the weekly events and challenges from April 24 to June 7, and you’ll win “the ultimate shapeshifting prize”, which’ll be unveiled in March. No clue what it is, but it’ll probably be ultimate. If you’re curious about the Radnet Edition, just read up on this FAQ, courtesy of Radical.

EA and Bioware have released new videos, screens that reveal Mass Effect 3 pre-order goodies. The M55 Argus Assault Rifle will be available free if you pre-order the game anywhere. A reservation at GameStop will also include N7 Warfare Gear. Reserving from Origin will net you an an AT12 Raider Shotgun.

Trine 2 Finally Gets a Release Date

It’s about damn time. The sequel to one of the most beautiful and well received side scrolling platformers in years has finally gotten a release date… next week!

That’s right, Trine 2 is coming to PC and Mac on December 7th and to consoles on December 20th!

Helsinki, Finland – 5 December 2011 – Finnish game developer Frozenbyte is pleased to announce that the Steam and PC/Mac retail versions of Trine 2 will be released on December 7th, 2011.

“FINALLY!” says Lauri Hyvärinen, CEO of Frozenbyte, but continues: “Alas, fans will have to wait a little longer for the console versions. Trine 2 will be available in North America for PlayStation 3 system via PlayStation®Network on December 20, and worldwide for Xbox 360 system via Xbox LIVE Marketplace on December 21. A European release date for the PS3 system version of Trine 2 is still awaiting confirmation but we hope it won’t be far behind if delayed at all. The console releases might be arriving a bit later, but they are still in time for the holidays!”

Trine 2 is available for pre-purchase now on Steam and other channels, including GamersGate and Direct2Drive. The regular edition is priced at $14.99/12.99 euros/11.99 pounds. The Collector’s Edition is available for $24.99/19.99 euros/17.99 pounds. The Collector’s Edition includes a digital artbook with developer commentary and the original soundtrack by the acclaimed composer Ari Pulkkinen. All PC/Mac versions use Steamworks for easy multiplayer, Achievements, Steam Cloud and Steam Play support. A DRM free version of Trine 2 is coming in 2012.

Focus Home Interactive is releasing the retail, physical copy of the PC/Mac Trine 2 Collector’s Edition in Europe this week. The retail Collector’s Edition includes the beautiful physical artbook and the digital version of the soundtrack.

Trine 2 is set for December 7 release on Steam for PC/Mac, December 21 for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, December 21 in North America and later in December in Europe for PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, later in 2011 in the Mac App Store for Mac, and in 2012 for Linux.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Clarifies Digital Pre-Order Bonus Items

In the latest Friday Update for Star Wars: The Old Republic, BioWare detailed the specific digital bonus items received by each player who pre-orders, dependent on which version of the game they’ve paid for. The full list can be found below:

All Pre-Orders:

Color Stone. Included as part of every pre-order of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the Color Stone is a special crystal that players can use to change the color of any lightsaber blade or blaster bolt to a yellow hue encased in a black outer shell.

Digital Deluxe Edition:

These items are included as bonuses for the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Flare Gun. The Flare Gun is a small cosmetic device that allows you to fire a particle flare high into the sky above your character’s head.

Training Droid. A small but advanced piece of machinery, the Training Droid will hover by your side as you explore the galaxy. The Training Droid will also serve you in combat, marking your target with a particle effect that clearly identifies them as an enemy.

HoloDancer. The HoloDancer allows you to take the party with you in your travels and can be deployed at almost any time by activating the HoloDancer and targeting the ground near your character.

HoloCam. The HoloCam lets your character take high-resolution images of the countless wonders that they will discover on their journey across the galaxy.

STAP. The STAP, or Single Trooper Aerial Platform, is a custom-skinned vehicle that you will be able to acquire at no cost to you. The vehicle itself will become available once your character gains the ability to pilot vehicles.

Collector’s Edition:

In addition to the items included in the Digital Deluxe Edition, the Collector’s Edition of Star Wars: The Old Republic includes the following items.

Mouse Droid. This mouse droid, custom-skinned for Collector’s Edition owners, serves as a faithful pet that will follow you as you make your way across the galaxy.

Collector’s Edition Store. At launch the Collector’s Edition Store will be available to those who have the Collector’s Edition of The Old Republic, and will feature items found nowhere else in the game! The Collector’s Edition will be stocked with exclusive social items for yourself, and unique appearances for your companion. The store will also have regular updates to give players incentive to keep coming back.

If 10 Million People Pre-Order Afterfall InSanity For $1 – It Will Stay $1

If you’re an indie developer and you want to get your game out there, pricing it at $1 is a good way to get attention… it’s also a good way to lose money… unless for some reason 10 million people pre-order it for $1…

That seems to be the plan for the team behind Afterfall InSanity.

Here’s the rundown:

The pre-orders can be made directly from the game’s website www.afterfall-universe.com. Once the company’s target goal is achieved Afterfall: InSanity will be distributed among the p2p (peer 2 peer) networks such as Torrent. Additionally, 10% of the revenues will be donated to one of the largest charity organisations in the world. However, if the number of pre-orders does not reach the 10 million copy sales target, then the revenue collected will be donated to the charity in its entirety. Besides the game itself, players will receive the soundtrack as an added bonus, and those who will register their order will immortalized as part of the game by having their names included as part of the credits.

Nicolas Games is throwing down the gauntlet to the whole industry. ‘As an independent distributor we can afford to try starting a revolution. Being absolute game fanatics ourselves, we want to prove that high-class games do not have to be associated with high price tags. Our goal is to attract players from all over the world and offer them a great deal; if we can get 10 million people to buy our game we will sell it for just 1 dollar. I strongly believe that this news will electrify the whole market and together we will set a new record,’ Tomasz Majka, the CEO of Nicolas Games said.

BioWare Clarifies SWTOR Pre-order and Early Access Schemes

BioWare Senior Community Manager Stephen Reid today clarified the studio’s plans in regards to pre-orders and Early Game Access for upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. In a post on the official forums, Stephen reiterated that while BioWare still has not set a date for the beginning of the early access period, admittance will be based upon when you pre-ordered on a first come, first served basis.

The amount of people granted early access will gradually be increased in order to ensure server stability, and players will be granted access at regular intervals. Essentially, players will be eligible for early access at different times. If you were among the first wave of pre-orders when they became available, you’ll be among the first groups able to access the servers. The later you pre-ordered, the later you’ll be admitted into the early access period. The difference between being admitted early or later should be a matter of days, not weeks.

Anyone who pre-orders will remain eligible for early access, and currently pre-orders are still available. If you’re pre-ordering today, you’ll likely be waiting a ‘short’ while longer for early access than those who pre-ordered back in July. Makes sense, right? Now all we have to do is sit back and wait (and wait, and wait) for the early access period to begin.

GameStop Reveals Super Mario 3D Land Pre-Order Bonus

GameStop.com has just revealed that there will be a pre-order bonus for Super Mario 3D Land. The bonus, which will be available online and in stores, is a Tanooki Mario Keychain. No pictures are currently available of the keychain. I can’t wait to get one though!

Pre-Orders Open for Indie Car Company Sim ‘Automation’

If you’re a car enthusiast and want to actually build cars rather than just race them, you could do worse than pre-ordering Automation.

The game, developed by two man team Camshaft Software, aims to simulate the process of building a car company from the ground up, including intricate design of your own cars as well as selling them on a global market. As the indie developers explain in the video below, there really isn’t anything like it on the market today:

The game has been of interest to me since I spotted it a while back, but it’s great news that the game is now up for pre-order: it might actually be released! The pre-order money received will go directly into the cost of developing the game, meaning it can come out faster, so put down your money if you’re interested. It’s always good to support indie developers, right?

Preordering allows you to not only save $10 off the final price of the game, but also grants access to extra content once the demo is released. All games and preorders will be distributed by digital download.

We will be releasing the car and engine design aspect as a demo ahead of the game for our community to tinker with and get a taste of what Automation is all about. Allowing people to design, build and share their car designs before the game is complete.

The demo will be restricted in content (to only 4-cylinder hatchbacks) whereas if you have preordered you will get access to all content as we complete it. As more content is added(for example V8 engines, or convertibles) the preorder price will incrementally be raised until it reaches the final sale price of $30 once the game is completed.

I’m really behind these guys as I’ve been looking for exactly this game- I’m just grateful they are going to the lengths of making the bloody thing.

Amazon Offering Digital Art Book With Dead Island Pre-orders

Today Deep Silver has announced their pre-order bonus for Dead Island through Amazon.

When gamers pre-order Dead Island through Amazon they will receive an exclusive digital art book including tons of game art and concept art of everything from the characters, that fat tourist dude with the camera, zombie types, environment concepts, and more. Dead Island is out on September 6 in North America for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Duke Nukem Forever Coming to Mac This August

Duke Nukem Forever will be coming to Mac after a 14 year and three month wait in August.

You can pre-order here in the US, but if that’s not your sort of thing you can just download the demo here for PC. If you don’t have a PC (though why would you? Macs are renowned for their gaming prowess) just stop complaining and wait until August. You’ve waited 14 years, can’t you wait another month or two?

Today Ubisoft announced that consumers who pre-order Assassin’s Creed Revelations for the Xbox 360 or the PS3 at GameStop will automatically receive a free upgrade to the Assassin’s Creed Revelations Signature Edition.

The Signature Edition of the game includes:

Pre Order inFamous 2, Snag Sly Cooper’s Cane

If you were already excited for inFamous 2, today’s news will have you foaming at the mouth with excitement. Or maybe you’re foaming for some other reason and need to see a doctor. Either way, you’ll be excited by the new pre-order stuff for the game.

Pre-ordering the Hero edition of the game, which already comes with cool swag, including a wearable backpack like the one Cole McGrath, will get you more bang for your electric buck. If you’re feeling like an electric ninja, you’ll want to bash Militia heads in with a samurai sword! Or maybe you want to be a bit more Cro-Magnon, which is why you’ll receive a Caveman Club!

Then again, if you’re a Sucker Punch fan, you’ll like this last one. Pre-ordering will get you a code for the Cooper Cane, used by Sly Cooper in Sucker Punch‘s debut gaming franchise. Rounding out all of this is a character skin for the Reaper gangsters from the original inFamous. And if the picture above is any indication, this is one Reaper you wouldn’t want to mess with.

If you’re just grabbing the regular edition, you’ll still get a code for at least one, but the Hero Edition comes with a super voucher for all the little goodies. Add in the fact that anyone who buys the game before June 25 will get to be part of the Uncharted 3 beta, and you’ve got a pretty sweet deal for only 60 bones!

Duke Nukem Forever Coming to OnLive, Free Game with Pre-Order

The cloud-based gaming service OnLive has announced that Duke Nukem Forever will be available to their customers on the game’s release day. You can also get a free game on the service by pre-ordering Duke.

Every customer who pre-orders Duke Nukem Forever will receive a coupon immediately redeemable for an OnLive Game. It’s a good offer, but what one must remember is that OnLive is a service reserved to those who live in areas with excellent internet connections.

For people who already use OnLive, however, it’s certainly worth a look.

New DiRT 3 Trailer Shows Off Game Modes, Weather, and Assorted Soil Types

Codemasters have released a new trailer for DiRT 3, which they say shows off game modes and weather types (despite being only 45 seconds long). They’ve also announced a pre-order only car pack.

The “Superteams Pack” will be a pre-order incentive at “selected retailers” for DiRT 3, and includes four exclusive teams and unlocks 14 cars for the player to take to the track immediately.

The pack includes the Texaco Racing Team, Brembo Racing Team, Team Yokohama and Mobil 1 Performance Team, as well as instant access (implying that you don’t need the pack to unlock them) to the Ford RS200 Rallycross, Fiat 131 Abarth, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Jun and Lancia Delta HF Integrale.

DiRT 3 comes out for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on May 24th.

Nintendo 3DS Breaks Amazon UK Pre-Order Record

The Nintendo 3DS has broken Amazon UK’s record for console pre-orders, as well as Nintendo’s own record.

With at least twice as many 3DS pre-orders as Wii pre-orders, the record has been well and truly thrashed.

David Yarnton, General Manager of Nintendo UK, had this to say:

“The reaction to Nintendo 3DS has exceeded our wildest expectations… Glasses-free 3D entertainment has truly arrived. It’s almost certain that the number of Nintendo 3DS consoles sold on Friday will exceed the number of 3D televisions sold in the whole of 2010.”

Considering how expensive 3D televisions are here, that statistic is hardly surprising, but congratulations to Nintendo anyway. Who got hold of one yesterday, UK Ripteners? I haven’t yet as I’m still reeling at the price, and I’m still not done with Pokémon White yet. Any thoughts? Leave a comment below.

Gears of War 3 – New Beta Info with Dates and Details

Epic games has finally given definitive info on how to participate in the Gears of War 3 Beta. Essentially, pre-order the game from Gamestop and you can participate in the beta when it begins on April 25th and runs until May 15th.

Those who purchased the Bulletstorm Epic Edition will get access one week earlier on April 18.

As mentioned before, participants in the Beta will have access to all sorts of unlockable goodies. The Gears of War 3 Beta Unlockables include:

Beta Tester Medal – Complete one match in the beta to unlock the Beta Tester medal, which will carry over to your gamer profile in the final game. The Beta Tester title will be featured in the “Gears 3″ multiplayer lobby as well.
Thrashball Cole – Complete 50 matches in any game type to unlock the Thrashball Cole character variant in the beta. Once unlocked, complete 10 matches as Thrashball Cole during the beta and the character will carry over to your gamer profile in the final game.
Gold-Plated Retro Lancer – Show your ultimate “Gears of War” fandom by unlocking the Gold-Plated Retro Lancer. Complete 90 matches in any game type to unlock it for the beta, and score 100 kills with it once unlocked to carry the exclusive weapon skin over to your gamer profile in the final game.
Flaming Hammerburst – Complete one match by Sunday, April 24 and unlock this weapon variant.
Flaming Lancer – Complete one match during the week of April 25 and unlock this weapon variant.
Flaming Sawed-Off Shotgun – Complete one match during the week of May 2 to unlock this weapon variant.
Flaming Gnasher Shotgun – Complete one match during the week of May 9 to unlock this weapon variant.
