Resident Evil: Revelations Misspelled on Spine of Game Box

Capcom has said it plans to fix a spelling error on the initial shipment of Resident Evil: Revelations by the next shipment.

The 3DS game’s name was spelled as “Revelaitons” on the spine of the game box on the first editions in North America. Capcom say this will be fixed by the second shipment of boxes.

Capcom has Revelation, Drops Resident Evil Revelations Price to $39.99

The Capcom train keeps chugging with more news one one of their major franchises imminent releases. This time it’s all about a price drop for their 3DS title Resident Evil Revelations, initially announced to be $49.99. Most 3DS games are most certainly not that expensive, so this prompted a pretty upset reaction from Capcom’s fanbase (what else is new?). Allegedly the price was due to a 4GB size card for the game, rather than the typical 2GB.

In their infinite graciousness, Capcom has somehow, through thick and thin, likely fighting off waves and waves of zombies and the evil corporations behind their coverup, perhaps even through round after round of some of the world’s greatest fighters and at lastly through Dr. Wiley, managed to drop the price down to $39.99. I would personally like to thank Capcom for their impressive ability to scale the price of their games down to the standard set by the industry. That was sarcasm, I don’t get why they should get any praise for this, but at the very least we can stop being mad. For now. At the very least, the game seems to be being received well, and it’s also canonical so Resident Evil fans can enjoy some pure Resident Evil story. The game releases on February 7th, stay tuned for Ripten’s review coming up around release date.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City – Full List of Versus Modes and Gameplay Trailer

Capcom today released the full list of multiplayer versus modes for Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City. The versus modes include two competing factions (Umbrella Security Service vs US Special Forces) which battle while under assault from zombies and other infected monsters.

Versus Modes will include:

Team Deathmatch - Battle for the most kills in brutal triple threat chaos that leaves players never knowing what’s behind them, an element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe.
Biohazard mode – Make sure samples of the G-virus are returned safely to their base while fighting off all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.
Survivors mode – Try to survive the horror just a little bit longer while waiting for rescue. There’s limited space on board a helicopter so fight off the opposition and survive the hordes of hungry zombies, risking infection if they get too close.
Heroes Mode – Previously announced, this mode allows fans to play as one of their favorite Resident Evil characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, Hunk or Jill Valentine.

Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City will be at retail in North America March 20th for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The PC release date has not been set.

New RE: Operation Raccoon City CG Trailer is a Welcome Return to the Series’ Roots

Ah, the thrills of Resident Evil games of years past. A time before zombies had tentacles, Umbrella made for the ultimate evil corporation and gamers winched in fear with the site of an unstoppable Tyrant. Which is not to say that we all didn’t love the unique adventure of Resident Evil 4, but RE5 and many recent titles had taken the series away from its’ style and survival horror roots.

Capcom had promised to go back to the basics with Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City and this new trailer shows they intend to deliver. While you won’t see any actual gameplay in this fully CG trailer, it teases the possibilities of the unique squad-based survial gameplay and versus capabilities. What we do see is hordes of mindless zombies, Lickers, unique squad abilities, and a Tyrant.

Look for Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City on March 20 in the US for the PS3 and 360. Check out the trailer below.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Dated (Details on Special Edition)

Capcom has announced the official release date for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City as well as detailed the special edition of the game.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will make their way onto US store shelves March 20th, 2012 with the PC version to follow. Fans who pre-order the game with GameStop, Amazon.com, or Best Buy will receive one additional costume for each of the six playable characters, along with two bonus weapons that are unique for each retailer.

No pricing was yet detailed for the special edition, but it will include a Steelbook with exclusive art, stylized foil sleeve, Umbrella Security Service embroidered patch, Spec Ops Field Unit embroidered patch, and all 8 bonus weapons. Pretty sweet.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Won’t Make 2011, Still Coming “This Winter”

UPDATE: Apparently Capcom never actually said the game was coming in 2011, but we all totally thought it was!

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City never had a set release date, but Capcom did apparently have it targeted for late 2011. However, Capcom confirmed to Kotaku that the title won’t make a 2011 release, but instead is “definitely’ locked in for winter”.

For those of you scratching your head, winter doesn’t end on December 31st. In fact, it runs through December 22nd until March 19th of next year. So expect the title somewhere in that time frame.

I know many Resident Evil fans aren’t too psyched about the title as it’s more of a spin-off, but after playing it for myself, it was actually a lot of fun.

Resident Evil: Revelations TGS Trailer Features a Brand New Character

Capcom has released an all new trailer for their upcoming survival horror game, Resident Evil: Revelations. Revelations is pretty fucking sweet to say the least, hell, we’ve played it! The most intriguing thing about this trailer is the new female character Capcom showcases.

Excessively large…..haircut. You thought I was going to say tits didn’t you? Well, those are there too and bigger than ever. What I find hilarious is the trailer asked “But will she be able to prolong her survival?”.

I don’t see how this poor girl is going to survive anything in her current state. Take a look at the trailer, you’ll see what I mean.

Zombies n Stuff Make Their Way to PS Plus for Free (Resident Evil, Plants vs. Zombies and More!)

In honor of Resident Evil’s 15th Anniversary, Playstation Plus users will be able to download the first three PS1 games of the zombie horror franchise. A week later, they’ll get half off of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica.

To add to the free game frenzy, PS Plus users will also get to download Plants vs. Zombies, Astro Tripper, the old Genesis game Altered Beast, and Jet Moto. There are also some free minis, discounts, and themes to check out, so head on over to the Playstation Blog for the full list.

Revelations Returns the Resident Evil Franchise to its Roots (Hands On)

I’m a big fan of the Resident Evil games. I used to be too afraid to play the first game by myself, and instead had my brother play for me while I watched from under a blanket (I’m a wuss). As the games progressed and turned more shooter-y than survival horror, they started feeling like they had lost that creepy, “don’t blink” vibe. This made it an entirely different sort of game, at least for me. Not to knock the newer games because Resident Evil 4 is undoubtedly one of my favorites of the series – it just felt different.

I had a chance to play Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS this weekend at PAX, and combining the playing experience with the footage we’ve already seen makes me feel like a kid again, hiding under that blanket.

The demo started me off as Jill in a room by myself with a handgun. The game offers you a choice of third person or first person perspective, and I stuck with third person as it feels more Resident Evil-esque to me. Upon exploring the room, you find some ammo, wander into the bathroom, you find a tub filled with water. Uh oh. Do you pull the plug and let the water out? Of course you do. After fully expecting something to come charging out at me, I was a little disappointed to just find a screwdriver to open the locked door to the rest of the house. On the way to the door from the bathroom though, the locked closet on the side of the room swings open and out bursts your very first zombie, which goes down with a few shots to the head from a pistol.

To get out the door, you have to solve a puzzle – an easy puzzle, but still a puzzle, which makes me excited and adds to the evidence that Revelations is hearkening back to the older games. You explore the rest of the house, occasionally running into zombies and locked doors that you can’t open yet, finding ammo and herbs, and my favorite weapon ever, the shotgun. Sweet. I met my untimely demise after creeping through an unexplained hazy ballroom and wandering up winding stairs to the second floor, where I opened a door and two zombies launched themselves at me. I wasn’t savvy enough to escape them, and only took down one before the other ripped me apart (whoops).

Aiming was accurate thanks to the bumpers, the menu was easily accessible via the touchscreen, and switching weapons was extremely easy by using the D-pad. The music was appropriately Resident Evil and creepy to the max, and the graphics looked great. I didn’t use the 3D function for long since I’m not a fan of it, but I tried it out as I was creeping through the hazy ballroom; the effect was immersing and realistic.

If the rest of the game plays this way, and keeps the puzzles and horror elements at the forefront, the franchise will have added a very sweet addition to its lineup. Resident Evil: Revelations is expected to launch on 3DS sometime in early 2012.

Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X HD Priced, Screened, and Video’d

Capcom has released a new set of screens, a gameplay video and pricing details for both upcoming Resident Evil HD titles. Both titles will be released only through Xbox Live Games on Demand and Playstation Network for 1600 MSP ($19.99). Resident Evil 4 HD will be released on September 20th, followed by the release of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica HD on September 27th.

“One of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, Resident Evil 4 catapulted the series in a new direction, with a strong focus on all-out action as Leon S. Kennedy battled hordes of cultists, mutants and mind-controlled villagers. Now available for the first time on Xbox 360 and PS3, the release also contains all the bonus content available in previous versions of the game, including the Separate Ways epilogue.

In the survival horror based Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, the year is 1998, three months since the total destruction of Raccoon City and Claire Redfield is still in search of her missing brother Chris. While investigating an Umbrella facility in Paris, Claire is captured and transported to the remote Rockfort Island, where an accident releases t-virus samples and B.O.W.s, thrusting Claire back into a twisted, frightening survival horror journey once again.”

Resident Evil 4 And Code Veronica HD Release Dates Announced

Capcom has finally came forth and revealed the release dates for Resident Evil 4 HD and Resident Evil: Code Veronica HD. The announcement was made during Capcoms Resident Evil panel, which is also rumored that they revealed Resident Evil 6 behind close doors.

Resident Evil 4 HD will be available on September 20, followed by Resident Evil: Code Veronica HD on September 27th. Both games will be digitally distributed through Xbox Live Games on Demand, and the Playstation Network.

Aside from the visual upgrade, both games will support achievements and trophies with a whoppin 1,000 Gamerscore. Resident Evil 4 HD will also include additional bonus content. While no specific price was given, Capcom stated gamers should expect budget pricing.

Has Resident Evil 6 Been Revealed? Are Details Coming September 15th?

It appears Resident Evil 6 will be heading our way sooner than we expected. According to sources, the image was sent from a behind closed doors Capcom press event during this years annual San Diego Comic-Con.

The image portrays what is believed to be the official logo for the game, including a date stamped 15-09-11, September 15th 2011. Which coincidentally enough happens to be the start date for this years Tokyo Game Show. While nothing is confirmed and this is 100% pure speculation, the logo itself looks very real indeed. We’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Capcom to Release Resident Evil 15th Anniversary Boxset (In Japan)

There are certain instances where I wish I lived in Japan even though I don’t know the language and have only a cursory knowledge of any cultural nuances, and this is one of those instances. Capcom, being the enterprising company that they are, are planning to release a 15th anniversary boxset of their beloved Resident Evil franchise (or Biohazard in Japan, which I always thought was a better name anyway).

The boxset contains a plethora of items including:

Resident Evil Revival Selection (PS3)

The Revival Selection is the upcoming HD remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica collected onto a single disc. The first three titles in the series will be in their original forms and not the Gamecube remakes. The discs have special labels exclusive to the boxset, but are otherwise identical to the games released all those years ago.

Importers may want to get their hands on this quickly, as the Japanese buy collector’s material more often than they go grocery shopping. Resident Evil is still very huge in Japan and this is sure to sell out quickly. The set is available at the e-Capcom store (Google Translate is your friend) and is available for ¥7,800 or about $97.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Will Make Your Heart Race (Hands On)

When Capcom first announced Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, fans were in for a real surprise. They decided to take the series in a completely different direction. Yet, like many other Resident Evil fans, I was worried.

Not only did Capcom choose to take Raccoon City into a new direction, it’s being co-developed by Slant Six Games. S6 were the creators of SOCOM: Confrontation, which was plagued with issues at launch and wasn’t fixed for quite some time afterwards. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City takes place between the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3. This time you take on the role of an Umbrella Security Service (U.S.S) Soldier and battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City. So as I placed the PS3 controller in my hand preparing for the demo I was nervous, my blood was pumping and at the same time I was ecstatic. I was presented with six character classes to choose from, all of which offered their own special ability that once used will replenish over time. I chose the female commando type class which offered the ability to have unlimited amount of ammo for a short period of time.

Once the demo began I started off with three AI controlled teammates chosen from one of the same six classes I was presented with from the start. It was dark, gritty, and the streets were flooded with Zombies. So many in fact that I spent quite a few minutes just mowing down zombies for my own entertainment as they never stopped coming -at least in the demo-. The controls felt fluid and were easy to grasp, which took my by surprise considering how clunky SOCOM: Confrontation was. After a few minutes of wondering down the streets of Raccoon City aimlessly mass murdering zombies, I felt a sign of relief as a Resident Evil fan. Capcom may have took this game into a new direction, but the core formula is still present. You find ammo laying around in the streets, the famous green herbs fall from your enemies after pumping them full of led. Capcom also has introduced a few new features as well. Once you get bitten by a zombie, you don’t just brush it off and move on with your day. No. Now you get infected with the virus and your heath bar turns blue and slowly decreases. You have two options in this situation. You can either use a new type of spray which can only be found while you venture through Raccoon City, or you can call over one of your teammates to heal you, assuming one of which is a medic of course.

If you fail to complete either of these tasks your blood will turn and it’s flesh you now seek. Sounds sweet right? Wrong. It’s nothing more than a fancy respawn screen. I was unable to control my character whatsoever, let alone attack. I was a little disappointed by this as I was hoping to run around for 15-20 seconds acting like a zombie instead of watching an AI zombie version of myself. Once I respawned I was right back into the action and this time decided to try out the new 360 degree swivel gameplay mechanic were players can flawlessly equip their pistol and shoot in any direction with ease. When the new mechanic was being explained I simply thought “Oh that’s pretty cool”, but once I used it for myself it became a life saver. If I happened to spot a zombie from the corner of my eye I could easily hold L2, spin my left stick into the direction of the zombies and fire away. Think Third Person Shooter meets Twin Stick Shooter. Yea it’s pretty bad ass.

As I further ventured down the streets of Raccoon City I became quickly overrun, forcing me to take cover in a nearby garage. Inside the garage I was quickly greeted by a pack of nasty, slimy Lickers. Crawling across the ceiling, down from the walls, these beast were everywhere and if you’ve ever played a Resident Evil game you know just how much of a pain in the ass these things are. Thankfully due to the new 360 swivel gameplay mechanic I was quickly able to hold L2 and pop each and every licker with a few shots of my handgun. This was the life saver I was talking about previously, but of course they didn’t go down that easy. Now that I’ve taken all these beast to the ground, using my special ability I was able to unload as many bullets as I wished completely obliterating the Lickers. For the first time in Resident Evil I didn’t have to run like a little girl for my life. It was great.

I searched the garage for ammo and supplies then quickly regrouped with my teammates. Once I exited the garage however, I was quickly attacked by a zombie leaving me to bleed throughout the streets. Now here’s were things get interesting. They smelled my blood and were ready to feast, which Capcom likes to call the “Bleed Out” effect. Not only did more zombies begin to surface, they rushed at me like what you’d expect in Left 4 Dead. That wasn’t the only surprise either, outside I faced myself up against the real military and they weren’t fucking around. Snipers were carefully placed along the rooftops and soldiers took cover behind broken down vehicles. One of the great things about the “Bleed Out” effect is it can be used against the enemies. If you can’t quite pull of that headshot you can pop a few rounds into the enemy soldiers and the “Bleed Out” effect will take place with them as well. It’s a very useful tool if you’re being caved in by zombies giving you the perfect opportunity to plan an escape.

With having the military attack you as well as the zombies, you really need to use teamwork if you plan to succeed. Which means you can’t run around the entire time shooting zombies in the head. You’ll need to use your special abilities to aid one another and actively use cover to avoid taking fire, which is where you run into a big problem. In the demo I played I wasn’t able to switch my stance and in a third person shooter you need to able to see everything around you. The game focuses with you looking over the right shoulder of your character and when approaching the left side of a building for cover you became completely blind. This can cause issues with the opposing military force because if you’re in an alleyway for example, and as you exit the only option is to turn right, you might as well rush around the corner blind firing. After a few more firefights through a burning gas station and a street filled with snipers, I came face to face with this big mother fucker below and my time had ended.

My experience with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City was short lived, but not forgotten. Before I even put the controller in my hands I knew not to expect a traditional Resident Evil game, which I believe made my time with game more enjoyable. Moments before the demo had begun I was scared and worried about this game. Then a short 15 min later all those worries disappeared and I felt relieved. The graphics had a somewhat glossy touch to them but they certainly didn’t look horrible. The controls, gameplay, and of course the feel of the game were all great. Overall it was a great experience, one of which I plan to have more of in the future. I had so much fun with the demo I actually went back and played through it again….then proceeded to stand over the shoulders of a developer and watched someone else play. So before you get all down and pissed off about what Capcom has done with this game, I suggest you play it for yourself. It’s great fun and a game you should definitely keep your eye on in the coming months before the game launches this winter.

Angry Gamers Destroy Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on Amazon

Here at RipTen, we’ve been excited to see the popular survival-horror series make its 3D debut on Nintendo’s handheld. Capcom has touted the game as having a full feature set, large cast of characters, and endless online replayability. While we’re still working on our full review, it looks like consumers are already making their decision known online via Amazon.com. The game is currently rated at less than one and a half stars, and is set to keep going downhill from there.

While the biggest complaint is the horrific one un-deleteable save feature that was revealed a few days ago, that’s definitely not the only problem being voiced:

“There is less content on this game then many 99 cent games on the iphone”

“This is a horrible rush-job of a game that is way overpriced at $40″. “I don’t care how much fun this game is, or how good it looks, or how much it costs”

“There is one save slot. Save data is permanent and cannot be deleted. Capcom is attempting to set a new precedent in consumer manipulation and control with this product!”

“Do yourself a favor and save your money”

We are not going to judge the game until we’ve been able to properly review it; but the crowd has spoken, and it’s not looking good for Capcom.

Capcom Won’t Let You Clear Saves in Resident Evil 3DS So You Can’t Sell It Used?!

You remember you were a kid, and when you had something, your parents said that having it was a privilege? Well, someone at Capcom has that saying to heart. The Sixth Axis reports that you can’t reset your progress or delete your save in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries for the 3DS. If you’re done playing, and your friend wants to play from the beginning, they’re SOL. It can’t be deleted. At all.

On the back of the box for the US version, it’s noticeable, but apparently not enough for bigger news. Capcom’s reasoning for the save lockout is for secondhand game sales.

“The game’s value at second-hand in the UK,” says Capcom, ”is not affected by whether or not the game can have its data reset. Customers in the UK will not experience a second-hand value should they wish to trade in their purchase.”

This is pretty weird. To the extent of my knowledge, no game has ever denied the standard of deleting saves. I’ll be going to Gamestop today and will update with a picture as soon as I can. In the meantime, sound off on this below.

Resident Evil: Revelations 3DS Looks and Plays Like a Console Title (Hands On)

Resident Evil: Revelations is a great looking 3DS title for those looking for a game with some more realistic visuals. I am also happy to report that Resident Evil: Revelations looks, feels, and plays like a standard Resident Evil title!

I only had a short time with the Resident Evil: Revelations demo but I was able to explore a mansion. Upon my exploration I came across a screwdriver that I also needed to use to escape a room. Upon using the screwdriver in the right spot I was treated to a touch screen puzzle that I needed to complete before my escape.

Resident Evil: Revelations also features herbs and other items that fans of the series have grown familiar with. This is a true Resident Evil title complete with cheap scares and more.

One downside to this demo was that I only encountered one enemy type through my entire time with the game. This enemy took several shots and, in typical survival horror fashion, I found myself out of ammo before too long.

Most of the game takes place with an over the shoulder view. While aiming, however, the view shifts to a first person perspective, which is something I don’t recall seeing in other Resident Evil games. Fans shouldn’t let this bother them though because it was hardly noticeable and just gave a clearer view of the action on the 3DS screen.

Overall I think Resident Evil: Revelations is the Resident Evil core title that most people are waiting for on the 3DS. The game looks great and I’m sure the final version will have more enemies than I encountered in this demo. Resident Evil: Revelations is definitely one title that 3DS owners should keep an eye on.

Why You Should Get Excited For Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

The Resident Evil series is one of my favorites of all time. Better yet and after the single player game is completed in Resident Evil 4 and 5, what keeps us coming back for more is the awesome Mercenaries minigame. Fighting endless waves of zombies seemingly never gets old, and it’s good to know that Capcom is bringing the game to the 3DS, with a few additions.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D features re-mastered stages from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The game is available as a single-player experience, or gamers across the world can team up and enjoy two-player co-op via network play. Confirmed playable characters include Chris Redfield, Krauser, Hunk, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and, making her debut in a Mercenaries game, Claire Redfield.

One thing that sets Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D apart is the inclusion of an all new Skill Slot feature. Players are able to fill three skill slots from a selection of 30 skills including improvements to weapons performance, reload speed or melee abilities and customize characters to best suit their style of play.

Capcom has been listening to players, and made changes to take advantage of the new hardware; most notably the ability for players to move and shoot and the addition of touch screen functionality to switch weapons on the fly.

To sweeten the deal, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D will also include a playable demo of the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS title, Resident Evil Revelations.

This title is one that we will be watching closely here at RipTen, and looks to be shaping up to be a great addition to the 3DS lineup. Am I going to be reviewing it? You bet I am!
