Is Crytek Working On A New Shooter IP?

A job listing from a current Crytek staff member reveals a new shooter IP is in the works. The LinkedIn profile of Gameplay/Animation Programmer David Ramos has revealed Crytek is apparently at work on a new IP for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for the past year.

What’s even more interesting is somewhere in between August, 2008 and now. Ramos was working on a new third person shooter IP that was later canceled. ex-Technical Artist/Character TD, Dimitry Kachkovsk’s resume also revealed a title in production between May 2007, and December 2010 by the name of “Redemption”.

The game wasn’t listed as a third person shooter, but it was in development during the same time frame when Ramos was working on a third person shooter IP. I think you can put two and two together.

Crytek is crrently working on the Kinect title Ryse, which was formerly known as Codename Kingdoms.

Has Resident Evil 6 Been Revealed? Are Details Coming September 15th?

It appears Resident Evil 6 will be heading our way sooner than we expected. According to sources, the image was sent from a behind closed doors Capcom press event during this years annual San Diego Comic-Con.

The image portrays what is believed to be the official logo for the game, including a date stamped 15-09-11, September 15th 2011. Which coincidentally enough happens to be the start date for this years Tokyo Game Show. While nothing is confirmed and this is 100% pure speculation, the logo itself looks very real indeed. We’ll keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Is Sony Planning To Redesign PSN?

Reports are coming in that the Playstation Network might be receiving an all new makeover.

According to Reg Hardware, Sony is currently working on a complete makeover of the Playsation Network service. This new look will supposedly step up to the likes of Xbox Live and Steam opposed to what it currently offers.

These changes will affect the Playstation Store rather than the XMB itself. Reports claim Sony is currently market-testing the new design to de-clutter the screen in which the new look is ”an aesthetic layout with logically marked sections and rolodex lists”. Features include an all new live search system for both movies and games which will features details such as: developers, casting, genre, etc to the right hand side of the screen.

Similar to XBL, Sony plans to add an all new “Deal of the Week” section as well. Among all that, Sony plans to scrap their currently blue color scheme in exchange for “ultra bright colors on a black background”.

If these reports are true it will be a little disappointing to know only the Playstation Store will be affected instead of the full service. Especially considering these reports claim Sony wants to up it’s service to be on par with XBL, which has received quite a few makeovers itself. Including one this fall.

Is Codemasters Already Working On a New Racing IP?

A job listing over at Codemasters facebook page has revealed that the studio’s working on a new racing IP.

However, no specific details were revealed to clues on what the project might be. Codemasters most recently launched their anticipated rally racer Dirt 3 which we gave a resectable 8.5, and already stated Grid 2 is in the works and dated for next year. So what could their next project be? Dirt bikes? Street racing? Kart racing? What ever it is, you should be excited.

Codemasters’ next racing title F1 2011, is due out in September for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. 3DS and PSVita versions are in the works.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Could Mix SOCOM and Zombie Killing

Today is a good day for Resident Evil news. First we get confirmation that Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica will be available on modern consoles as downloadable titles, and now there’s news in the pipeline that yet another Resident Evil game will be hitting store shelves.

After Resident Evil 5, new games in the universe were few and far between. Now we have Resident Evil 6 in the pipeline, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3d, and Resident Evil Revelations all expected to hit in the next couple of years. Put on top of that the latest rumored title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and you have zombie fever kicking into overdrive.

The new title is reportedly being developed by Slant Six Games that developed SOCOM: Confrontation, and will be (unsurprisingly) a squad based shooter. Players will play the role of a Umbrella Security Services member tasked with containing the zombie outbreak and eliminating any survivors that you find.

The USS team featured in the game will consist of Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre, with each character having a specific role in the game’s storyline. The Umbrella team will also find themselves at odds with the U.S. Special Forces, creating dynamic battles between not only zombies and the USS, but the USS and the U.S. Special Forces.

The storyline will take place between Resident Evil 2 and 3 and many parts of the game are unlikely to be canon. Players will see many familiar locales from the series and can even hunt down high profile characters like Leon Kennedy and prevent him from surviving the outbreak.

Of course, right now all of this is strictly rumor, but this sounds like it could be an exciting new direction in the long running zombie series.

Is a Mortal Kombat HD Kollection Coming?

With so many titles and series’ getting the HD treatment, it isn’t a stretch to think that Mortal Kombat may get in on the action. According to a small Italian blog entitled VGU, the new HD collection will feature the first three games in the series, MK, MK II, and Ultimate MK III. The site, doesn’t have a source (none of these stories ever seem to) but does show some box art, that easily could have been photoshopped.

The translated article also makes mention of a PS3 exclusive “Killection” Edition. I’m not sure if that means that it will be called the Mortal Kombat “Killection”, or if the title will have a PS3 edition different from other editions of the games. Of course, this could all be a big, fat lie.

You can check out the supposed cover art and check out for yourself. This is the cover art that was leaked months ago, so it could be a clever running joke, or it could be legit. We’ll keep you updated on this story as more develops.

Scans of a popular German magazine have turned up a bit of information that might be very interesting to all you rabid Marvel Vs. Capcom fans out there.

According to the magazine, Sentinel will appear in the upcoming title. He is shown in the magazine performing his special. Of course, there is the distinct possibility that this may be a complete ruse, but hey – what if it’s not? Then you can impress your friends days in advance. Booyah! RipTen will be in NYC playing MvC3 with Capcom next week – where we’ll be sure to get this squared away first thing.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection May Be Coming to the PS3

According to Official Playstation Magazine, there are rumors in the air about Solid Snake getting an HD makeover for his first three MGS titles. The makeover would be in the same vein as the current HD packages in the works, such as the Sly Cooper and ICO/Shadows of the Colossus HD upgrades.

Apparently the magazine has heard “inside whispers” about the remakes that are apparently forthcoming. It says that that Snake and the crew are in the “facelift queue” and that the “first three” MGS games are going to get a PS3 retail release. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima also spent this morning revisiting and digging through old Metal Gear concept pieces. This could mean that Kojima is trying to get some ideas for the HD release, or that the man is simply cleaning out his office.

Whichever the case, Ripten will be there if and when he finds a sandwich that time has forgotten, and you better believe that we’ll have pictures.

New Metal Gear Remake For PSP?

In this months issue of EGM’s Rumor Mill, Quarterman reported that Konami is developing another Metal Gear game for the PSP. Apparently it isn’t going to be a spin off such as we’ve seen from Portable Ops. The new title is said to “Hearken back to the early days”.

Could this be a new business model for Konami? It seems the Japanese development house has taken a keen interest in portable development of late. With the launch of Portable Ops Plus, and Silent Hill Origins all in one month. It seems Konami seeks to fill in the gaps between their triple A titles with portable games.
