According to multiple sources, the game’s still coming out, and these new screenshots don’t say otherwise, either. Hit the jump for the images in all of their glory.

When Activision and Blizzard merged not too long ago, certain games were in danger of being canned. One of these games was Terminal Reality’s upcoming Ghostbusters game, which Sierra – who is owned by Activision – was set to publish prior to the merger. With its fate now uncertain, Gamestop has started informing customers that they’re canceling all Ghostbusters pre-orders.

Customers who preordered the game have the option of either getting a cash refund or transferring that preorder to another game.

The Ghostbusters game isn’t exactly canceled, but given that it’s in “development limbo,” there’s no solid release date. I would guess that Gamestop is a little wary of letting customers pre-order games that have a release date of “To Be Determined.”

No, this has nothing to do with the game or the movie, but who cares!

An article over at The Cut Scene hints that Sony Pictures, the IP owners of a certain Ghostbustin’ franchise, are still very much planning on releasing the Ghostbusters game, but… pretty much didn’t say anything but that.

The Cut Scene got into contact with a Sony representative of some kind (who could be their janitorial union leader for all I know) who stated that they are working “to evaluate various options surrounding the release of the ‘Ghostbusters’ video game.”

Yeah, good times.

They also make mention of the fact that next year (that’s 2009 if you’re not paying attention) is the 25th anniversary of Ghostbusters, and that may factor into what Sony has planned for the title. Officially, they state that “this has presented [Sony Pictures Consumer Products] with an opportunity to reevaluate the game release marketing strategy to potentially coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in ‘09.”

So they may just be delaying the game for better timing, perhaps so the game release coincides with a re-release of the movies on DVD with new special features and commentaries. I don’t know one way or another, but I am certainly keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn’t end up on Blizzard’s extensive cutting room floor next to StarCraft Ghost and that WarCraft adventure game.

It wasn’t long ago that we all questioned Rick Moranis’s decision to turn his back on the Ghostbusters video game. The same game Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd said yes to. The same game so many of us nerds have been looking forward to.

Well, today Activision Blizzard joins Moranis, as they announce their post merger line-up. Ghostbusters (as well as several other games listed at the end of this article) were nixed by the new level 70 (soon to be 80) elite rare spawn perked out mega publisher — Activision Blizzard for short.

Activision CEO, Mike Griffith, stated the following regarding the line-up change:

“We are focused on improving efficiency across the combined organization and are concentrating on businesses where we have leadership positions that are aligned with Activision Publishing’s long-term corporate objectives,”

The new “streamlined” list of games includes Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Spyro the Dragon, Prototype, and one yet to be announced title. Ice Age and Spyro the fucking Dragon over Ghostbusters? Are you fucking kidding me?

In all honesty, I find it funny that Activision Blizzard’s focus is now to” streamline” things, when the two companies had several months to “streamline” their new name, but in the end decided to keep it as lengthy as humanly fucking possible.

Who you gonna call? Not Activision Blizzard, that’s for fucking for sure.

Full list of games cut: Brutal Legend, Wet, Ghostbusters, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World at Conflict: Soviet Assault, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, Zombie Wranglers, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, and various Xbox Live Arcade titles.

I can imagine being a little disconcerted, waking up with creepy super powers that you’re not quite sure how you got. I suppose I can also imagine being a little pissed, which is how the main character Alex Mercer feels about the whole thing.

Since our last look at Prototype during this year’s Game Developer’s Conference, the co-op mode has sadly been cut, but hopefully it just means the game will be that much more polished when it ships later this year. Jump the cut to hear about features you will get to see…

At Sierra’s spring event we saw shape-shifting powers different from the ones usually shown off, like a snarly whip fist. Go ahead and whip the Infected right in half–that’ll show ‘em. This game is rated M and it knows it.

Another of these mutations, which you unlock throughout the game with evolution points, gives Alex blades for hands, which of course, means another pile of body parts.

Alex has also scored some new moves that aren’t specifically tied to a monstrous change in appearance. In one, you stomp an enemy and literally surf on the body until friction prevails, at which point you can jump off and make a targeted kick at a new victim. Another recently added feature is the “flying squirrel move” used for gliding in the air, giving you extra control when you get knocked off a building, or keeping you from being completely knocked off in the first place.

The demo took place partly during a mission to destroy rooftop “sniffers,” which are out sniffing for you. Seemed like a fairly typical “kill x” mission, to be honest, but there will also be parts where you’re infiltrating military bases in disguise, so variety seems insured.

“Disguise” in this case, means appearing to be your latest absorption victim, whether a marine or a pedestrian, via more creepy shape-shifting. It originally sounded like you would be able to carry at least a number of these bodies to select from, but the process has been streamlined to just include one.

If you do blow your cover, you can either duck out of sight and swallow another person whole with your sinister black tendrils, or, more comically, point to the next marine (in the demo’s case) over and convince everyone that he’s the Prototype. They’ll shoot him to pieces!

There are definite areas of spit-shine needed, even though the Parkour twists and vaults still impress us. Unfortunately no hands-on as of yet, but we’re interested enough in the game that not playing it makes us antsy– a good sign.

As if June wasn’t going to be busy enough with Lego Indy on the 6th and Guns of the Patriots on the 12th, two more heavy hitters have been stamped with a June release.

Sierra have let out that the Bourne Conspiracy will be released on the 27th for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. We sat down with three levels at Play.com Live a few weeks back – expect a preview shortly.

Meanwhile, Tecmo’s claret-heavy Ninja Gaiden 2 for 360 is mooted as the 6th following an update to retailer GAME’s website – an assertion that has allegedly been confirmed by ‘inside sources’.

True or not, better start raiding the piggy bank; July’s going to be tight.

“Kill ya nine times before ya hit the ground”

Pause, rewind, and slow motion — these aren’t just features on your VCR, in the new game “TimeShift” from Sierra and Saber Interactive, they are weapons.

In the not too distant future a Colonel Michael Swift (get it?) signs up for a government time travel program after the death of his daughter. Using a machine called the Chromonicon and a full body suit that allows him to manipulate time ironically named the Quantum Suit (get it?).

Mr. Swift travels to early 1900s. Well that’s fine and dandy but when he returns he finds that the government that sent him back has changed into a Fascist regime. You get one guess as to who is on their most wanted list. Now Swift must return to the past to set things right in the present.

TimeShift is like any other FPS game, in that you can still take pleasure in shooting the bad guy in the face, but with the Quantum Suit you can bend time around, changing only the world around the suit leaving you unchanged by the time shifts.

You slow time allowing you to dodge bullets, avoid explosions, and take out entire squads of enemies with very little effort. Of course, you could just pause time, walk up on an enemy take his gun from him, shoot him or melee him to death. You can slow rewind time to a point where the enemy hasn’t seen you yet, or to when a recent obstruction that’s blocking your path wasn’t there.

With timeshifting abilities this FPS leaves you with some very interesting tactical advantages. Sneak, recon, or flat out devastate anything that stands in your way — the choice is up to you.

To be released Oct 30th 2007 for PC and XBOX 360
