During E3 2011 Konami Legend Hideo Kojima announced a new Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Now thanks to Gamestop, we have a price.

At just $49.99 the collection will include Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in HD with trophy and achievement support (sorry 360 gamers, no MGS4 yet).

Sound like a steal? You betcha. Can’t wait to get my hands on Peace Walker!

Kojima Announces Metal Gear Solid 3 3DS Port For 2011

Kojima announced Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will be released on the 3DS sometime in 2011. During TGS, Konami held a press event where Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima, explained demo Naked Sample’s purpose.

At E3 this past year, Konami put together a short demo for the Nintendo 3DS that showcased the upcoming handheld’s graphical power and glasses-free stereoscopic 3D technology. The demo was code named Naked Sample, rendering parts of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2). Speculation ensued.

MGS 3 for the 3DS will be a straight port of the PS2 title, with no work being put into upgrading graphics from the 7 year old game. Still a great looking game for a 3D portable screen.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP Bundle Details

Here’s some details about a PSP bundle (or two) for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the biggest PSP game since Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. They’re quite good. There is not much more to say.

The Sony deal will cost about $295, and includes the game, a camo-skinned PSP-3000, and a case. The more expensive Konami one will include some dog tags, a stand, and a booklet of some description. Neither are the most exciting things in the world, but they’re good enough, I suppose. Tempting, one might even say. I particularly like the stand and the fact that it implies something about cut-scenes in MGS. (There are long cut-scenes in MGS and you need a stand to watch them if this joke is not clear).

Remember the announcement in Hideo Kojima’s keynote at GDC? The one where he teased the new Metal Gear? Yeah, that was an April Fool’s joke. The video above was posted here, and it details the true extent to which Kojima was having us on. By the way, Kojima-san, you’re doing it wrong. You’re supposed to do the fool on the day; that’s how it got its name, actually. I still salute you for riling up your own fans, though. Good show.

CliffyB Calls Metal Gear Solid “Passive Entertainment”

Cliff Bleszinski, lead game designer of Gears of War 2, cites Metal Gear Solid as the kind of game Epic doesn’t want to make. What were his exact words? Read on to find out.

In a recent interview with IGN, CliffyB was quoted in saying the following:

“Metal Gear Solid is our example of the game we’re not doing. Passive entertainment is on its way out.”

The story itself is just IGN’s preview of Gears multiplayer, which is interesting, but CliffyB’s quote kinda came out of nowhere. Am I sensationalizing this, or did CliffyB just totally dis Metal Gear Solid?

Over 70 Weapons in MGS4: New English Demo Footage

Kojima revealed at TGS that there would be over 70 weapons in Metal Gear Solid 4, and what’s more they would be customisable. With CES going on right now, we are getting new footage of some of these weapons. Watching these five new videos from the MGS4 English demo, it’s almost safe to say that Kojima has done it again.

Kojima continues to announce new features, such as being able to play the game in First Person Mode, suggesting that there isn’t anything Snake can’t do. Furthermore, with over 70 weapons, MGS4 is going to be one of the most feature full games to come out in 2008.

In this following video from youtube user Konrad52, you can see the epic weapon shown in the title image – the rocket launcher, “Javelin”.

MGS4 will have the most diverse array of weapons yet seen in a Metal Gear game, not only because of the sheer amount, but that you can modify each weapon extensively.

As you get hold of new gear, you can add scopes, flashlights, shotguns, grenade launchers and more. This gear can be added to your weapons on pre-determined mounts to create something that will help you get through your diverse enemy encounters.

The enemy animation and hit reactions continue to impress, as can be seen in this recent captured video:

We only wish they would let all PS3 owners get hold of this demo, but at the moment this looks unlikely.

This is what we have all been waiting for … a battle for the ages, and the time is now. We have assembled 32 of the finest video game characters that have ever called a console home, and a five round single elimination tournament of speed, skill, strength, and determination stands between them and being named pixel for pixel the baddest that ever was, the “King of the Game”.

Can Marcus Fenix roadie run his way through a bullet blazing, one liner laden, no holds barred battle with the one and only Duke Nukem? Will Metal Gear’s main man Snake slither his way to victory against the Splinter Cells triclops, Sam Fisher? Metriod’s Samus Aran, or the combat evolved Master Chief? The king of cold: Sub Zero or the queen of hot: Lara Croft?

We here at ripten have been working for over two months, researching, arguing, and eating lots of junk food, all in the name of bringing you an accurate account of each characters quest for video game immortality. The results are in and over the coming weeks, you will lay witness to five rounds of sword swinging, scope sniping, chainsaw buzzing intense action.
