There are few things in this world that are better than the Super Meat Boy Soundtrack composed by our friend Danny Baranowsky.

Except when someone goes and does an awesome cover of one of his tracks.

Well, YouTuber FamilyJules7X went and did just that with ‘Betus Blues’

While this cover is pretty epic and definitely \m/etal, we still think the best Super Meat Boy music mashup has to be Holla if Ya Meat Me.

Redesigned Wii Bundle Coming To North America

The redesigned Wii is heading to North America as part of a special bundle. This Wii bundle will include the redesigned black Wii, a black Wii Remote Plus, Black Nunchuck, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and a special Super Mario Galaxy Soundtrack CD only available in this bundle.

The redesigned Wii will not have Nintendo GameCube support and has to sit horizontally.

It’s disappointing that this is the only way to get a North American copy of the Super Mario Galaxy CD. To please hardcore supporters, Nintendo should find a way to make this soundtrack available to current Wii owners.

NBA 2K12 Soundtrack Features Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Cee-Lo and More

2K Sports has announced the complete soundtrack for their upcoming NBA 2K12. This year’s cross-genre soundtrack highlights both popular megastars and up-and-coming bands, featuring 28 tracks with music from Eminem & Royce Da 5’9″, Travis Barker, Busta Rhymes, Lil Jon, Twista, Cee-Lo, Q-Tip and more.

Vice President of marketing for 2K Sports, Jason Argent stated today:

“Music has always been an integral part of our NBA 2K video games, as it further immerses players into the world of basketball and enhances their gaming experience.

It was important to us that the NBA 2K12 soundtrack was not only what you hear while navigating the menus, but also in real-life situations like pre-game highlight introductions and during timeouts, just as you would hear a song while at a game or watching on TV.”

Playdead have just released their award winning black and white puzzle-platforming adventure, LIMBO onto the US Playstation Network for $14.99. Starting tomorrow, July 20th, Playstation Network users in Europe and Asia can begin downloading the game, followed by Japan users on August 4th.

As a one-year birthday bonus, Sony is giving Playstation Plus subscribers a 20% discount on the game for the next two weeks. You can now register with Club Nintendo and your copy of Ocarina of Time 3DS to get a free soundtrack CD.

The CD has all the music from the game (what better soundtrack could you ask for?) as well as a bonus track for the CD only.

Before you get all excited about how brilliant Club Nintendo is, I’d just like to make sure everyone knows that my UK account worth over 5000 stars was recently wiped, leaving it with none at all. Wait too long, you see, and Nintendo decide you are no longer loyal enough and must be cast aside like a maggot that failed to catch a fish.

Still, a free CD is cool.

Roackstar Announces L.A. Noire Official Soundtrack and Remix Album

Rockstar games have announced both an Official Soundtrack album and remixes album for L.A. Noire.

The remix album, entitled “L.A. Noire: Remixed”, is described as “a modern take on music found throughout the world of L.A. Noire,” and includes contributions from those world-famous producers Dave Sitek, DJ Premier and Truth & Soul (who?).

2Pac Raps With Super Meat Boy in 2011′s Meatiest Collaboration

The legend of rap meets the legend of insanely difficult platformers in perhaps one of the greatest music mash-up’s our undeserving ears have ever heard…

A fellow member at a forum I frequent by the name of ‘tomato’ took the liberty of mashing up 2Pac’s ‘Holla If Ya Hear Me‘ and the ‘Betus Blues‘ track from Super Meat Boy into what he describes as a “solid and creative mashup” and I am inclined to agree.

The modern Meat Boy music meshes perfectly with 2Pac’s 1993 track and I’ve had it on replay for a solid fifteen minutes. Check it out below and make sure to leave a comment on his YouTube channel if you enjoy the track.

Michael Jackson’s Musical Contribution To Sonic 3 Soundtrack Confirmed By Long Time Composer

The speculation as to whether the late Michael Jackson worked on the soundtrack for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 can finally be put to rest. A recently translated interview which appeared in “Black & White“, a French magazine about Michael Jackson, features the artist’s composer, Brad Buxer, talking about his work with M.J on the 1994 Sega title.

The publication asked Buxer for clarification on the rumor regarding their work on the game, to which he responded:

“I’ve never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that’s what I did.

And if he is not credited for composing the music, it’s because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music…”

When asked specifically about the similarity between one of the tracks in the game and Michael Jackson’s “Stranger in Moscow” song Buxer replied:

“Yes, Michael and I had composed those chords for the game, and it has been used as base for Stranger in Moscow.”

Dawn of War II soundtrack available for free

Steam news is reporting that the official Dawn of War II soundtrack is available to download. Simply go here, scroll down, and download the archive. The 20 tracks are in 320Kbps, so that should keep all but the most avid audiophiles happy. Game soundtracks, for me, are in a strange category. They’re most often brilliant, but rarely the kind of thing you’d listen to on a normal occasion. They’re sort of the gentleman’s suit of the music world.

Braid Soundtrack On Sale Now

Braid was a great game that had a lot going for it, including a fantastic soundtrack, which is now on sale.

The album contains not only the tracks from the game but a couple remixes as well, which use the time-altering effects to change up the music. You can download it for around $7 or purchase a physical copy for $12.97 at Magnatune.

Mushroom Men: Give a Beat Down in Perfect Time

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Mushroom Men: Spore Wars, it’s a quirky little platformer coming out in the Wii next month. After a meteor crashes on Earth, four tribes of Mushroom Men gain consciousness and fight against each other (and other plants come to life) for the right to survive.

What’s cool about this game is that Les Claypool, bassist of Primus, had a heavy hand in both contributing to and influencing the game’s music. Working with audio company GL33k founded by Matt Piersall, a truly unique audio experience was born. You see, the noises and sound effects in Mushroom Men aren’t merely ambient sounds–all of the outdoor noises follow the same beat!

Matt and his team at Gl33k seem to have gone above and beyond the call of duty to put together the sounds for this game. To start off, all of the sounds in the game are set to the same BPM of 120. After getting 5 tracks composed by Les Claypool, they drew from his music the inspiration for the rest of the game’s varied soundtrack.

This wasn’t their only inspiration though. Some members of the team actually went camping to collect samples of genuine “outdoors” noises. These sounds were then given their own tempo and then placed in specific locations within the game. This means that the background noises and music of the game will differ depending on where you’re standing. An ever-changing soundtrack is a refreshing change from the more standard looped tracks in most other games.

Piersall had a lot to say about the music:

The music was a tough beast to tackle. We had Les Claypool create five tracks for the game. The tracks included four tracks for the races and one title track. His music was really cool and really helped drive a lot of interest in the project. He delivered his tracks as well as multi-tracked sessions (individual elements) that we used as world sounds, pickup sounds, and base elements for other tracks. Bob Arlauskas and myself composed a good majority of the music. The whole game has somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 tracks because constant looping music is one of my biggest pet peeves. For our approach we wanted to go with a sort of weirdo psychedelic dub feel. There is a slight reggae feel and Jimi Barkers original basslines gave us a cohesive palette from which to work.

I remember when I was able to play the demo I thought there was something different about the background noises. I guess it got kind of stowed in the back of my mind, since I was a bit busy gleefully smacking glowing rat carcasses with a stick.

Unfortunately it looks like the date for this one, along with Mushroom Men: Rise of the Fungi, has been pushed back a bit to December 2nd. Not a terribly long time to wait, and seeing how much work on the audio alone gives me hope that the rest of the game got just as much attention.

STOP THE PRESSES! Prince of Persia Music Will Have Heavy Eastern Influence

Prince of Persia games have a history of being an all-around awesome gaming experience (unless you happen to be playing on PSP). So it’s not surprising that the music also excels in quality. A mix of traditional eastern instruments with a dash of the all-time American favorite electric guitar and some orchestral flair gives you a quality of music normally associated with blockbuster movies. So it’s no surprise that some familiar names are returning to the series to bring us a soundtrack for the new game that Ubisoft boasts will be “a compelling and epic original score.” You hear that? It’s gonna be freaking epic!

The magicians behind the previous few Prince of Persia games, Inon Zur (Two Thrones and Warrior Within) and Stuart Chatwood (Sands of Time, Two Thrones, and Warrior Within) are once again joining forces to create a musical experience that will hopefully lend itself well to the tone and gameplay of Prince of Persia.

“Inon’s music underlines sumptuously the dramatic and the cinematic
qualities of the story,” said Simon Landry, Music Supervisor for
Prince of Persia. “Bringing together, in a video game perspective,
tragedy, humor, violent confrontations, romance and moral dilemmas is
a huge challenge but the new Prince of Persia soundtrack makes it
happen, reaching new artistic heights and emotional depth.”

Boasting many instruments will silly names such as Santoors, Sarods, Sitar, Zournas, and Tamboura, the soundtrack for this game looks like it’s in good hands. One of the many games this season that I’m sure many are salivating over hungrily. Om nom noms begin December 2, 2008.

FaceBreaker Soundtrack Released – Music To Pummel By

FIFA Soccer 09 Soundtrack Details Announced

EA Sports has announced the 42-song soundtrack to FIFA Soccer 09 this morning. Featuring songs from 21 countries and a number of genres, the soundtrack follows the style of their previous sports games with a mix of both established and new music acts. Some of the artists include The Ting Tings, Kasabian, The Kooks, Foals, and Duffy.

“We have exceeded our annual challenge to create videogames’ preeminent international soundtrack,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA, in a press release. “No other game has been as influential with regards to new music, and FIFA Soccer 09 truly raises the bar worldwide. We’re excited that Brazilian fans of Curumin will hear Spain’s The Pinker Tones and Norway’s Datarock. We’re proud that Canadians who love Chromeo will discover Ladytron from England and Junkie XL from Holland. We want fans throughout France, Mexico and Germany to find that their favorite new song is by Señor Flavio from Argentina, DJ Bitman from Chile or Jupiter One from New York.
