Kei-Suwabe has created quite possibly the most eclectic bunch of characters you will want to use in a fighting mash-up but never will. Characters Such as Stay Puft Marshmellow, Hamburglar and Waldo.

That’s only just a few that were created. Go to Errant Cluster to check out the rest of the roster. I can only imagine what some of the special moves could be for some of these icons. Capcom take some notes because this conglomeration of epicness is not to be missed!

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Releasing Via DLC

A trailer from Capcom’s Captivate event has leaked, confirming Super Street Fighter IV will be getting the Arcade Edition treatment. The video shows that the bonus content will be sold as a DLC pack which will include Evil Ryu, Oni, Yun and Yang as new characters.The content will also include all balancing updates from the Japanese arcade game and will include new ways to watch and submit replays.

You can check out the leaked video below. The video gives plenty of detail, but no release date. Rumor has it the Arcade Edition DLC is set to release sometime in June 2011, so be on the lookout. We will have all the details when Capcom decides to release them.

Super Street Fighter IV (3DS) Impressions

I haven’t really played a Street Fighter game since one of the II’s, but gave Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition a shot in NYC anyway. From the start players were given the choice of many characters. Being the Street Fighter noob that I am I picked Ryu or Ken for all my fights.

From the start I was able to do all the classic moves from the Street Fighter II that I remember. Players have the choice of using either the Circle Pad or the D-Pad for movement. The graphics looked great on the 3DS and the action was fun and engaging.

My favorite addition to the title was that some special attacks were displayed on the touch screen. Pressing those attacks would just launch them without the need to input complicated button commands. Hardcore players will probably hate this but it’s a feature that I really like. I personally feel that fighting games should be more about using the correct moves at the right time, not about hitting some crazy button combination with the possibility of screwing up. But what do I know?

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition also features a secondary viewpoint that can be selected before a fight. This view moves the action at an angle that is sort of like an over the shoulder view. I found this angle to be awful and could not find any way to switch the camera back to the standard view in game. This new angle may look nice, but it makes the game harder to play. The final build of the game better have a way of switching the view on the fly.

Overall Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition was fun to play even for a rookie like me. I doubt that fans of the series will want to miss out on this game! In fact – it’s probably a must buy for SSFIV fans.

C. Viper Coming to iPhone Version of Street Fighter IV

Capcom have announced today that the popular new character C. Viper will be coming to the iPhone version of Street Fighter IV.

In the past Capcom have added Cammy and Zangief by way of free updates to the iPhone game, so we can assume the process will work the same way this time. It’s good to see constant updates to make games like this better instead of re-releasing it and screwing over the people who bought the game early on. Capcom are really leading the charge as a Japanese developer being willing to respect its customers, and I tip my hat to them.

Daigo Wins EVO 2010 SSFIV Championship

For those of you that are in the know when it comes to fighting games, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara needs no introduction. For those of you out of the loop, The Beast is the worlds best Super Street Fighter IV player, and cleans up at any event he attends including EVO APAC in my home country of Australia.

Daigo (Ryu) clenched the final in a 3-1 victory against Ricky Ortiz, to make it back to back wins following his previous championship victory against Justin Wong at EVO 2009. For those of us who didn’t get to see the stream, which failed anyway, you can see the video below.

Better Than Boobs: Cosplay Spotlight #5

I’m only just now coming to accept the latest additions to the Street Fighter character roster, but I’m happy to say that I’ve learned to embrace them. As far as fighting games are concerned, I’m more of a Soul Calibur kind of girl, but I have a profound respect for the Street Fighter franchise. I also have that same respect for the men and women who take the time and effort to recreate those costumes. Like this girl right here from Cosplay.

I was lucky enough to see this cosplayer in person during Sakura-con in Seattle this year. First of all, I was astounded by how accurate the hair was. I’ve seen some other girls do a respectable job on the costume, but then they completely distract me with their exaggerated hair handle bars. Ness gets it just right and that’s no small feat. Hair is hard. I love the detailing, from the silver studs to the glossy shirt design. The mix of textures also gives the costume a wonderful extra dimension- notice how the black belts and trimmings are all the same shiny vinyl. With video game characters, you’ll find that in-game screens don’t always offer the best references for texture. Unless there’s a ton of concept art out there that explicitly dictates what fabric makes up the outfit, you’re pretty much left guessing. I think Ness made a wise decision here to mix glossy with matte. The costume is clean and clearly well-constructed. No obvious seams or threads. I really love this ensemble as a whole. It’s not super boob-a-licious, but the midriff still makes this a very alluring costume as opposed to downright scandalous.

Haha. Belly button ring. I dig it.

Street Fighter 4 Producer Teasing New Announcement

There’s something big on the horizon for Street Fighter. Yoshinori Ono, producer of the series, tweeted today about an upcoming announcement that will trump the SF4 sale, big time. What could possibly be so epic?

He included this image in the tweet.

Translation: "Super SF4 on sale!! SuperSF4 is nothing compared to what’s coming!!"

Could this be something brand new? Some earth-shattering announcement that will completely rock our paradigms? Maybe. It could also just be Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Whatever it is, we’ll have until Monday to know for sure. I’m rooting for the reveal of a new line of fruit snacks shaped like Chun Li.

Dee Jay and T. Hawk coming to Street Fighter IV?

Giant Bomb reports that, while looking into the files of the PC benchmark test of Street Fighter IV, some fans have found audio files that mention the classic Street Fighter character T. Hawk and Dee Jay. These characters were under considerations to be added in the past, so it seems likely that they will be coming in the future.

Of course, they could be remnants of an earlier version of the game. I hope not, though. The incredibly stereotypical Jamaican with maracas and the American Indian from Mexico will always have a place in my heart. Despite the fact that I get raped every time I play against Dee Jay in Super Street Fighter II HD Remix.

Update: Turns out that this is rumour and rumour alone. the exact words: “T. Hawk and Dee Jay aren’t coming to PC SFIV.” Perhaps the reference to the PC version specifically is a sign, but I doubt it. I’m now officially disappointed.

Street Fighter IV PC Specs Revealed, Dont’ Require A $2000 Upgrade

If you haven’t picked up the console version of Street Fighter IV in hopes that the PC version will roll around soon, or have been worried that the PC version of the game won’t run on your computer, then you’re in luck. Capcom just announced the specs for Street Fighter IV, and it doesn’t look like they’ll be breaking any of your computers anytime soon.

The specs are pretty average, which could be an indication of lots of hard work, or bouts of laziness depending on how you look at it. Street Fighter IV — it’s finally here. Find out just how much ass it kicks as your good friends Rangebar Merani and Sam Naylor assault your eyeballs with a one-two review combo beatdown!

Rangebar’s Take

All I’ve got to say is, “finally”. What took so long, Capcom? After an 11-year drought, the Street Fighter series is back on top of the gaming scene with Street Fighter IV for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. None of that Super-Turbo-Hyper bullshit either, this is the real deal, homies.

Any Street Fighter veteran will feel completely at home with Street Fighter IV, even if they haven’t played the game since its glory days in the early 90s. Most of the fighting styles, tactics, and combos remain the same with the entire original cast of characters, and as for the new fighters, you’ll just have to practice with them a little. But that’s what’s so perfect about this game.

No matter if you’re a SF veteran, someone just getting into the series or a serious button masher, you’ll have fun with this game in its entirety. Some may get discouraged or intimidated by the amount there is to actually learn in the game to really master it, but if you’re just wanting to have some casual fun you surely can.

With it’s first stint on the next-gen consoles (besides the two Street Fighter II remakes for XBLA and PSN), Capcom was able to put a lot of work into the graphics of SFIV, which are absolutely stunning. Although the battles take place in 2D (which is the way they should be) the backdrop, characters, and all other visuals are mostly in 3D, making for a match made in Street Fighter heaven.

I was so happy to hear that SFIV didn’t go the way of Mortal Kombat and use a 3D playing field. That would have just lost the essence and feel of a Street Fighter game. Along with beautiful graphics, the arcade mode introduces anime-style, mini-movies that help players get a little understanding of the story and the characters motives in fighting in the tournament.

The biggest addition to SFIV is, obviously, online play. Most definitely my favorite part of the game, playing online is so easy to get started (of course if you have a fast internet connection). Playing through the Xbox LIVE service, I was easily able to connect to an opponent in a matter of seconds in a quick, custom or created match.

I personally like to use the create a match option that way I can change the settings to my liking and host the match, allowing me to wait on a player with a good enough connection, plus I get to choose which level we fought on. If a player with a bad connection comes into your lobby, sounds mean, but you can just kick their ass out and wait on another opponent. Most of my online matches were lag free and incredibly fun, but also quite frustrating when I was losing. It’s like a love-hate relationship with Street Fighter IV.

Over the years the gaming scene has changed a lot. I remember back in the day when fighting games were some of the best games out, but now they’ve taken a back seat to first person shooters, such as Halo and Call of Duty. It’s nice to see that developers like Capcom can still deliver a solid and certainly enjoyable fighting game to those who really love the genre. An even better thing is that they kept the same old formula, but it still works.

I wouldn’t want Street Fighter IV to play any other way than it does now because it’s truly lived up to its high expectations and has made a lot of fans, including myself, really happy. With an all-new look, new characters, and the addition of online play, Capcom’s Street Fighter IV is one of the best fighting games to come out in a very long time. Now if I can only get another win online, shit!

Sam’s Take

Before I begin, I’d just like to say that I’m awful at Street Fighter. I know the moves, and I know the ideas around controlling space and timing moves- I’m just not quick enough to keep up with the Street Fighter crowd. With that said, Street Fighter IV is a great game. It’s one of the most compelling games that I’ve played for a good few months; I suck, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. As soon as I picked up Street Fighter IV, I realised that there was hope for the Street Fighter player in me yet.

The gameplay is instantly accessible for anyone with a modicum of Street Fighter experience behind them, and barring the more complex areas, should be for newcomers to the series as well. If in doubt, there is an extensive trial mode designed to teach you the basics all the way up to the super-complex combos for every character. The controls remain unchanged for the most part, and if you already know how to pull off a hadouken, you’ll have no trouble here. I’d even argue that the timing is more lenient here, allowing more room for less experienced play.

That said, Street Fighter IV, no matter what people are saying, hasn’t been “casualised”. The fighting is as deep as ever, with endless strategies and fighting styles- do you play a defensive game, or be relentlessly offensive? The Arcade mode harks back to, well, the arcade days of gaming- you know, those days where only the truly elite could complete a game on the hardest setting. The final boss of this mode, though, takes it a bit too far.

Even on “easiest”, he’s unfairly hard, pulling off combos that sometimes don’t seem to have an end. On a mode called “easiest” you expect even an unexperienced player to be able to get through. If you’re actually good at Street Fighter, then this isn’t such a problem, I’m sure, but bosses that repeat the same move over and over until you’re down isn’t fun, and doesn’t allow you to get better at the game- just get better at exploiting AI flaws.

However, there really isn’t much more to critisise this game on. The game is fantastically presented: the graphical style is thoroughly enjoyable- landing an ultra move is something to behold, especially when it finishes the match. The characters’ faces contort with pain or glee when they fight, and the myriad of colours and effects are a delight to the eyes. People praised Mirror’s Edge for being colourful, but it only really had three or four colours; Street fighter IV truly is one of the most colourful games this generation, not to mention one of the most visually striking.

I certainly recommend Street Fighter IV. I’m sure if you’re a Street Fighter fan then you’ll have already picked it up, but if you’re interested in the game, or remember the glory days of Street Fighter II, I don’t doubt that there will be something in there for you. Hey, even if you’re just looking for a challenge, Street Fighter IV would be my first recommendation. Just be ready to build up that hard skin again on your left thumb.

Overall, what’s not to love? Nothing, that’s what! Capcom sifted through all of the junk piled on top of modern fighting games and found what’s been missing: simple fun. Street Fighter IV is like retro gaming reborn — a must-have for fighting game fans, and possibly the game to convert some new ones.

Exclusive First Street Fighter IV Review

The Official Xbox Magazine scored the exclusive first review rights for Street Fighter IV. What’s the verdict? Check out what OXM had to say about the newest installment in the king of fighting games.

An excerpt:

“If you’re a fan of the older games, you’ll drop right in and enjoy yourself; the classic six-button controls feel perfect, and as you take different characters through Arcade mode, you’ll unlock alumni who didn’t appear in the coin-op edition, like Cammy, Rose, and Dan. Everyone looks as you remember them, only better. Exaggerated new facial animations make every attack look like it really hurts, and the game’s distinctive painted graphic style gives it the classy look of an interactive work of art.”

OXM’s final score: 9.5 — can’t say I really expected anything less, and I’m sure the PS3 version will fare just as well. The PC version, well, that just seems weird.

Street Fighter IV’s Sexy Collector’s Edition Revealed

Now we all know that Capcom never dissapoints, but when they go all out- they go all out. The newest news from Capcom HQ is the Street Fighter IV Collector’s Edition, complete with pricing, dating, and sexy new box art, which I prefer to the art from before. Ugh.

The only thing that disappoints me is their choices of exclusive figurines. I just don’t see many Xbox 360 owners wanting newcomer Crimson Viper over Ryu, which PS3 owners will receive. Screens of Ryu and Ken’s Sensei in Street Fighter 4

Street Fighter 4, from what I understand, is not getting a legal arcade release in America (correct me if I’m wrong), but never fear! The US is getting the console version on both PS3 and Xbox 360, and a character that you may or may not have known was coming was Ryu and Ken’s teacher, referred to as Gouken.

In the arcades here in Japan, he is not a playable character but does show up from time to time if you’re playing right. I haven’t seen him or Akuma (Gouki) at all in the arcade game because I don’t play it all that much. He will, however, be playable on the home consoles, and his moves seem to be somewhat of a mix between Ryu, Ken, Akuma (Gouki), and a dash of something all his own.

From what I was told by buddies in school during the heyday of Street Fighter, Gouken had been killed by Akuma over some dispute between them — apparently that was false and he was just in hiding. Now he is back and ready to take out the other Street Fighters in the new incarnation.

I also remember back in high school, there was an April Fool’s joke where if you beat Street Fighter a certain way you got to fight this guy. Yeah, my friends and I worked on that a whole weekend once only to later realize it was a hoax. Those evil, evil men… Anyhow, this time it’s real and here are some screen shots to prove it.

If he is worth playing or not is yet to be seen. He is a very imposing man to say the least. I wouldn’t wanna fight him.

The console version releases around February 12th in Japan, followed shortly thereafter by the U.S. and UK releases on the 17th and 20th, respectively.

It’s Official: No Street Fighter IV For US Arcades

Being a resident of a major American metropolis with you know, some people who are into arcades, I’ve gotten a chance to play Street Fighter IV – dare I say it – the way it was meant to be played. On a big ol’ cabinet with quarters lined up along the bottom of the screen, huddled up next to a crowd of fellow fighting game fanboys, getting my ass kicked by some quiet dude beasting with Blanka.

I should count myself lucky, and I do. Street Fighter IV won’t be coming to US arcades in any official capacity. No surprise to anyone, but Capcom just set it in stone. Capcom senior director of communications and community Chris Kramer explained:

At this point, it does not look like Street Fighter IV arcade machines will officially hit the U.S. arcade market… There’s not really an arcade business in the U.S. anymore. It’s sort of like an ‘amusement’ business that sometimes has arcade games in it

Arcades can always import it if they want to front the costs – that’s what my place did, but with the console version out in a couple months, why would you expect them to?

Mysterious Street Fighter Club Event: October 24th in Brooklyn NY

Do you live in the NYC area? Do you love beating the shit out of other people in videogames? Do you also like getting exclusive free stuff? Then you should check out the Capcom Street Fighter Club event happening in Brooklyn next weekend.

This venue for this event is super-secret and hasn’t been announced. Information on the Capcom Unity site says only this:

We aren’t ready to give up the goods on the actual address yet, but I can tell you that the site is really, really cool and totally underground. I Am 8-bit main man Jon Gibson is going to be helping us again, and he’s outdoing himself this time around in terms of setting atmosphere. You will not believe what we’re going to create in BKLN, so if you live in NYC, close to NYC or can get your ass to NYC on Oct. 24, do so. Pictures will not do the night justice.

Playable at the event will be Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. These will be set up on HD TVs for your playing pleasure.

Still not convinced? Those who register for the event will get all sorts of Street Fighter swag such as a t-shirt, poster, and…soap? Yes, from the blog itself, you will get Street Fighter soap.

To register, you first have to register for the Capcom Unity site, then go here to sign up for the event. There were some technical issues with the sign up before, but it seems like everything’s been cleared up.
