It’s the final day of the Steam summer sale, and with it comes a “best of” album with all the hits from over the last week or so.

This year the gimmick is the “prize booth”, where gamers can gain tickets (like you might at a fair) to buy DLC bits and bobs for various Steam games. You can get tickets but completing the achievements set out on this page. There’s also a competition to win the top 10 games on your wish list on the same page.

Readers should also be aware that yesterday Steam put up the price of some of the games on sale after a few hours- TDU2 and BIT.TRIP both went up significantly. Buy early or don’t buy!

Free Killing Floor “Summer Sideshow” Event DLC coming June 30

Tripwire Interactive have announced that Killing Floor will be exhibiting a free “Summer Sideshow” event on June the 30th until July 22nd.

The event brings a new map (with its own style of infected), “The Amusement Park,” achievements, and a new unlockable character. There will also be a $1.99 DLC pack for some new skins but the rest is all free.

Incidentally, this chance should be taken to play Killing Floor if you haven’t already. It’s not perfect, but with friends on microphones it’s a brilliant survival-based shooter. It’s hardly a scary game, but a Skrake jumping out on you with his chainsaw arm will certainly give you a fright once in a while.

Portal 2 DLC Inbound This Summer, Free For All!

Following the astounding success of Portal 2 the world over, it was almost a given that Valve would be releasing post-launch content, however it may be coming sooner then first expected.

Update: Here is the official word from Valve:

Portal 2 DLC #1 will offer new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more.

Targeted for release this summer, Portal 2 DLC #1 will be offered free of charge for the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PS3.

During an interview with Valve team members, marketing head Doug Lombardi said, “We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer.”

He also revealed that some details would be arriving about the content saying, “We’ll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We’ll support that with more videos or more comics.”

Portal 2 has so far received bucket loads of praise, and is currently the number one selling multi-platform title in the world.

Serious Sam 3: BFE Announced for Summer with Serious New Screens

Croteam, the Croatian indie developer that loves to crank out entertaining shooters, has announced Serious Sam 3: BFE for Summer 2011. Serious Sam 3: BFE is set in the 22nd century as a prequel to Serious Sam: The First Encounter, against the backdrop of Egypt in Earth’s last stand against Mental’s army.

Exciting news for fans of mulitplayer action as it will have 16 player co-op action.

What does BFE stand for? Guess we’ll find out closer to release.

Serious Sam 3 will bring the boom to PC and game consoles this summer.

Serious Sam 3 Coming This Summer

Croteam have announced that Serious Sam 3: BFE will be coming this summer, after a delay pushed the game back into 2011.

Roman Ribaric, CEO of Sam’s developer Croteam, said: “Just a quick note to let all Serious Sam fans know that Serious Sam 3: BFE is coming this summer 2011. Official announcement will be released soon.”

We don’t know what BFE stands for yet, but knowing Croteam it’ll probably be a meaningless anagram of some kind. In any case I’m sure the new game will be something to look forward to.

Torchlight 2 Release Pushed Back To Summer

Runic Games has stated that the sequel to their acclaimed clicky-click-click game will be coming this Summer.

CEO Max Schaefer has told Digital Spy that the game has been pushed back to Summer- potentially July- because of the Xbox Live version of the game.

He said: “I’d say that the Xbox project, having to do the extra work with the interface, has pushed us back a little bit, so we’re probably talking July right now for Torchlight II.”

“It’s going great, however. We’ve actually got some optimisations and technical improvements that went into making the Xbox version that we’ve been able to go back and implement into Torchlight II for PC.

Runic have also noted to Shacknews that “the studio has yet to narrow down a release date ‘any closer than ‘Summer’ at this point,’ noting that ‘[they] don’t consider it delayed by any means.’”

Ubisoft Announces Call of Juarez: The Cartel for Summer 2011

After the wildly enormous success of Red Dead Redemption, it was only a matter of time that the western-themed genre of games would be invigorated. Call of Juarez is a known western game series that enjoyed a measure of success.

So it’s of no big surprise that Ubisoft has announced a new sequel in the series titled Call of Jaurez: The Cartel. Like RDR this game will deal with the wild west and western themes but will differ by being set in the modern day. Yep, you heard me right – a modern Western in a modern setting.

A explained by Ubisoft’s Caroline Stevens on facebook:

“Call of Juarez The Cartel is an action-packed shooter game with a strong story, interesting characters and a wide variety of gameplay options.The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot.”

In explaining the setting of the game specific locations are also discussed:

“Players can expect to embark on a journey like no other – one that will take them from the heart of modern day Los Angeles, California to Juarez, Mexico.”

As the third game in the series, Call of Jaurez is being developed by Techland the PC and “next generation consoles” – most likely meaning the Xbox 360 – PS3 and will be available this Summer.

Could This Be The inFAMOUS Movie Poster?

Check out this amazing poster which dates the inFAMOUS feature film for a summer 2011 release. Is it too good to be true?

Well, yes it is too good to be true. These awesome posters come courtesy of ScorpionSoldier, an InFamous fan and Deviant Artist.

However, an inFAMOUS movie is currently in the works with a screenplay by Sheldon Turner (Longest Yard, Up in The Air) that will be produced by the Arad brothers (Iron Man, Ghost Rider)

Movie studios should take note – ScorpionSoldier is available for hire – and these posters are awesome.

If it does come out next summer, you can count us among the interested gamers.

Battlefield 1943 priced and dated

Shacknews reports that the upcoming downloadable multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943 will be released on 360 and PS3 this June, at a price point of $15. The PC version will follow in September, for the same price. No reason for this is given, although I suspect that it will take another few months to compact awesome into the PC version.

Seriously, though, the game looks like it’ll be great. Battlefield games are always fun. Well, except that bit when you run a mile to the battle location because there aren’t any vehicles at spawn, and then you get run over. That bit’s not so fun.

Confirmed: Enhanced PS3 Network & Movie Downloads This Summer

A stronger network and movie download capabilities? When Kazuo Hirai, head of Sony’s Video Game Division says to “expect more” from an evolving PS3 console, he means it.

Sony has officially announced that in addition to strengthening its PS3 network capabilities, they will begin a PlayStation 3 movie download service in the US this summer. The service will then expand into Japan and Europe at a later date.

Those outside the US can expect to receive more details about the expansion of service to their area sometime next month.
