Harold Ramis, probably most famous as Dr. Egon Spengler from Ghostbusters, was asked to direct the 1993 live action Super Mario Bros. Movie.

“(Producer) Roland Joffe wanted me to direct the ‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie. I took the meeting because I loved the game. I’m glad I said no.”

I wish he had directed it, because I love Harold Ramis. I doubt he could’ve made a great movie out of what had to have been a pretty awful script, but IMDB tells me that the film was directed by four people, so that was probably a pretty huge detractor.

Still, it was a good call, Egon.

We were pleasantly surprised this year at E3 when Nintendo announce New Super Mario Bros for the Wii, but now we have the trailer for the game as well. And it looks really good, too. The graphics aren’t exactly Uncanny Valley quality, but I mean, it’s the Wii. I’ll post the videos for Metroid: Other M and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in a couple of minutes as well. Get excited!
