Fan Made Zelda Film Nearing Completion – Watch the Trailer!

The Legend of Zelda is a franchise which has all the makings of an epic movie. Beautiful princess, strong, silent hero, and a bad guy that can turn himself into various monstrous forms. While Hollywood has ignored this gem, many indie CGI animators have taken on the task, including Coloniser, who made the fan film Dark Sage back in 2007. Dark Sage has already hit 1.5 million views.

Coloniser is back with a new trailer of his latest work, which is “Coming Soon”, by the end of 2012 according to the author. The CGI is much improved in this sequel and really looks amazing, and the characters really show a lot of life. When it’s released it will definitely be worth checking out, and until then check out the trailer below and follow the films progress on Facebook.

Zelda Symphony Concert Coming to Philadelphia, PA

North American Club Nintendo Site Gets Updated Plus New Rewards Including Digital Games!

The North American Club Nintendo site has been updated! In addition to this update new Rewards have been added! Sadly, the site is currently undergoing maintenance, so fans will likely have to wait a few hours to check it out for themselves.

One of the new rewards will be The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary three poster series that Club Nintendo has been offering as a reward in other regions. This beautiful poster set will be available for 400 Coins!

Additionally it will now be possible to use Club Nintendo Coins to purchase select games from Nintendo’s digital libraries. Each month the list of available titles will change based on member feedback. A list of what’s coming after the site maintenance can be seen below!

While I think spending coins to get games is a cool idea, I also feel it’s a waste. These games don’t cost much on their own and I’d rather have the coins to get cool stuff. I’m sure many members will be happy with this program though!

UPDATE:

I was able to log on to the Club Nintendo site a few minutes ago and sadly it wasn’t updated yet and is currently down for maintenance again. Fortunately I was able to order a set of the new Zelda Posters and I saw new rewards.

There are now three different notebooks to choose from at a cost of 250 Coins each. The selection includes a Boo, a Peach & Mario, and a Donkey Kong notebook.

Additionally I saw two Pen Cases that have Mario designs inside. I believe each of these were 400 Coins a piece but I may be wrong.

RipTen Review: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Ever since Nintendo unveiled the Wii’s unique motion sensitive controller in 2005 everyone was thinking about one thing, a Zelda title that featured amazing motion controlled sword fighting. Well my friends, the Zelda title we dreamed about six years ago is finally here.

For the few that may be completely unfamiliar, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is yet another entry in the highly successful Legend of Zelda series. Zelda titles, including Skyward Sword, take place in a fantasy world and are action adventure games that contain light roleplaying elements. Although action adventure may be their genre, Zelda titles typically feature a mix of other genres in the form of mini games and revolve heavily around critical thinking and environmental puzzles.

(Note: The plot elements mentioned below are intentionally vague and only go into the first hour of the game. No spoilers!)

Story plays a major role in Skyward Sword and it is said that this entry in the series takes place before every other title in the Zelda timeline. The opening cinematic tells of a tale that took place many generations ago. One day the land cracked open and evil forces came from deep within the ground. These evil forces began to destroy the land and kill those who inhabited it. These evil forces were attacking the earth to try to take an ultimate power that was being held and protected by a goddess that lived amongst the people.

The goddess, wanting to protect the humans, sent the pieces of land they were on up above the clouds where they would be safe. This goddess then fought the evil forces with the land dwellers that remained and was successful in driving them back… and sealed the evil away. The humans, however, remained in the sky and after thousands of years most don’t even think a surface world ever existed.

The story now starts off with the game’s protagonist, Link, in modern day oversleeping when he is supposed to be up for an important ceremony. Link attends a school above the clouds and is training to be a Knight. If Link is able to pass his test he will become a knight and a member of the senior class. He is also fortunate because he has obtained a rare Crimson Loftwing. Loftwings are giant birds that people above the clouds use to get to and from the various islands in the sky. Loftwings choose the humans they want to be with at a young age and many had thought the Crimson Loftwings have ceased to exist. Not this one.

The test Link takes involves proving mastery over his Loftwing above the other students in his class, and needless to say our hero prevails! However, during his victory celebration flight with his longtime childhood friend Zelda, a black tornado knocks her down and she falls to the surface while Link is knocked unconscious. Link awakens in his room at night and explains to Zelda’s father what had happened.

While trying to sleep it all off, Link wakes up agai and sees a strange girl floating in his room. He follows her around their sky island, known as Sky Loft, and discovers a magical sword. This strange woman, known as Fi, says she is there to guide the chosen hero through his destined quest and that Link must accept his fate and take the sword to become the chosen hero. Additionally Fi says she can help Link find Zelda. Link chooses to take the sword and Fi guides him to the mysterious surface below, which is a whole new world for Link.

Fi acts as the in game guide, much like Navi in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and ends up living in Link’s sword throughout the adventure.

While I won’t go into many more story related details I will say the following. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has references to many of the other Zelda titles and will give fans of the series much to discuss in the way of lore and the overall legend. There are many cool moments and Zelda fans can’t afford to miss out on this epic tale. But I’ve only just begun.

The graphical style in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a nice blend of the cel shading graphics found in the Wind Waker mixed in with the style of Twilight Princess. While the game isn’t HD (because the Wii isn’t) it didn’t really matter to me. The game truly is beautiful regardless.

Skyward Sword also shares much in common with past 3D Zelda games in terms of gameplay, such as Z Targeting, but also does many new things that may change the franchise forever. For starters, Link now has a stamina gage. When Link runs, initiated by the player holding the A button, this gauge will deplete. Additionally a big chunk of this gauge will be taken off if Link’s signature spin attack is used, so spin attack spamming is now obsolete.

If the stamina gauge is depleted fully, Link’s movement will decrease dramatically until it refills. Additionally, he will be unable to attack or block, thus becoming extremely vulnerable to attacks. While running Link is also now able to run up and over walls if they’re low enough. It may not sound like much, but doing so is extremely useful and in some cases required.

New Zelda Themed 3DS Headed To The USA

The new Zelda themed Nintendo 3DS is indeed coming to the USA! A recent leaked Black Friday GameStop flyer has this sweet 3DS hardware, which comes bundled with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, listed at a price of $199.99 USD. No word yet if this is indeed a GameStop exclusive or if it will be seen in Canada or not.

My gut tells me fans can expect to see this awesome 3DS at various retailers throughout North America for a limited time. Though remember that isn’t confirmed.

Zelda 25th Anniversary Concert Coming to Dallas Texas

The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony is coming to Dallas, TX. This stop will mark the start of the 2012 Concert Series for this symphony. Fans in the Dallas area can look forward to the event taking place on January 10th, 2011! Tickets will range in price from $19 to $115 and there is a special 15% discount for Club Nintendo members. Sweet!

No word yet on the other stops on the Concert Tour, but you know I’m all over it! I can’t wait to finally see this symphony!

Dallas Symphony Orchestra to Play ‘Symphony of the Goddesses’ on Jan. 10

On Jan. 10, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform orchestral arrangements of music from the game’s 25-year history accompanied by video content from the games themselves. This new concert series will go on tour across the United States in 2012 as The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition is now available around the globe. The FREE download is for 3DS, DSi, and DSi XL owners to help celebrate the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. 3DS users can get it off the Nintendo eShop and DSi and DSi XL owners can download it from the DSi Shop.

The Anniversary Edition of Zelda: Four Swords now includes new levels and a singleplayer mode. As for me, I’m getting ready for my own private four player game!

More information is being revealed about The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition. RipTen has already reported on the upcoming release date of the title for DSiWare and the 3DS eShop.

The Anniversary Edition of the title will add a few things over the original release. Now it will be possible to play the game solo, controlling two Link characters. Additionally it would appear as though new stages will be unlocked once completing the main game. I’m pretty sure that picture above details some of the newer levels!

And lastly The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition will only be available to download between September 28th, 2011 and February 20th, 2012. So be sure to get your free copy of the game on you Nintendo DSi, DSi XL, and 3DS hardware systems before it’s too late!

Zelda: Skyward Sword To Feature Second Quest And Boss Challenge Mode

During Nintendo’s 3DS Conference in Japan Shigeru Miyamoto dropped some awesome Zelda: Skyward Sword information. Miyamoto revealed that the latest Wii Zelda title will feature a second play through as well as a Boss Challenge mode similar to the one found in Ocarina of Time 3D.

Additionally it was revealed that Skyward Sword would take between 50 and 100 hours to complete and will feature Hint Movies also similar to the ones found in Ocarina of Time 3D!

Dark Link is available in two versions, standard and Exclusive. The standard version is bare bones, costs $169.99, and is limited to 2,500 pieces. The Exclusive version has eyes and a base that will light up, costs $189.99, and is limited to 725 pieces.

10 Free NES Titles Are Now Available To 3DS Ambassadors

The 10 free NES titles that are being given to 3DS Ambassadors are available NOW! However it would appear that early adopters of the 3DS will currently have to wait for their 10 free Game Boy Advance titles. The 10 free NES games include the following:

3DS Ambassadors can download these titles by entering the eShop, going to Settings / Other, then Your Downloads. Within the Your Downloads area will be every title that the user has previously downloaded plus the 10 free NES titles. In addition Ambassadors can download the Ambassador Certificate in the same section.

The Ambassador Certificate is nothing more than a lame movie telling the user they can receive notifications about Ambassador Program news by opting in to Ambassador Program notifications. While the movie may be lame I suggest all Ambassadors Download the video because without it they can’t get these Spot Pass notifications that will inform users of the latest happenings within the program.

Many 3DS owners are getting pumped for the Ambassador Program which will grant those that purchased a 3DS for $249.99 that ability to get 20 free digital titles. 10 NES Virtual Console titles and 10 Game Boy Advance titles. Today Nintendo has revealed the full lineup of NES titles that will be available in Japan as part of the promotion, and I think it’s ALMOST safe to say the rest of the world will be getting these games as well. Nintendo Announces 3DS Ambassador Program (Free Games Included)

Nintendo of America has just announced the 3DS Ambassador Program for the early adopters of the 3DS hardware. Those that have a 3DS, and connect to the eShop before 11:59 PM EST on August 11th, 2011, will be automatically enrolled. The 3DS Ambassador Program has two elements according to Nintendo.

The first part will allow 3DS owners that are in the program to download 10 free NES Virtual Console games starting September 1st, 2011. Games will include Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong Jr., and Balloon Fight. These games will eventually be sold in the eShop, but those that are part of the Ambassador Program will have early access to these titles. Nintendo has also said that when these games do release to the general public later in 2011 that Ambassadors will be able to download the updated versions for free. I don’t know if that means the updated versions will have 3D or not, but I’m sure everyone can speculate.

The second piece of the program will grant 3DS owners in the Ambassador Program the ability to download 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games by the end of 2011. These games will include Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgames, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. These titles will NOT be available to purchase in the eShop and will therefore be exclusive to members of the Ambassador Program.

Nintendo has also said more details concerning the program will be announced in the future.

Five Legend of Zelda Characters Who Actually Made Things Worse

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular series in the history of gaming and it therefore doesn’t give a fuck to have an entire article just for itself, in list format. The hero of the saga is a silent man-elf in an inappropriately short tunic who strolls around mutilating just anything that moves a little too much. Throughout his quest he is met by a variety of characters, both completely useless, and some who actually help out, or so they seem to at first. Some of Link’s most “helpful” allies, and even himself, actually end up making the shit hit the fan, by making things worse than they already were. They do this by using the worst possible judgement for that particular situation and completely defying common sense and logic. Just like…

5) Link From Oracle of Ages

In Oracle of ages, Link is sent to Labrynna by the triforce in order to save the land from its impending doom. Upon his arrival he agrees to help, and then proceeds to blindly trust, a shady blue woman who also happens to be possessed by another, thinner, blue evil woman… But who gives a fuck, right Link?

Don´t trust strangers, no matter how large their breasts might be.

After Link scares off the creatures who are manhandling the old lady, she introduces herself as Impa, nurse to Hryule´s princess Zelda and veteran hooters waitress. She then explains to Link that she is looking for some girl and talks him into helping her out. As usual, Link readily agrees to help. So they set off to find Nayru in order to…well… Actually he is never given a good reason to do this but what the hell, everyone does crazy shit after doing shrooms in the forest and throwing on a green miniskirt.

She then leads him towards the sacred barrier, which only those with ties to the triforce seem to be able to move.

Sacred barrier? Really....that´s it?

Link proceeds to move the rock, which seems to be clearly there to keep suspicious blue people out of that particular area. I mean… the barrier is there for a reason… It is specifically there so random people can´t just go in there and do whatever the fuck they want. Anyway, Link and his new best friend proceed to enter the newly opened path and find Nayru, the girl she was looking for, serenading the forest creatures with her singing.

After this heart warming scene, the evil spirit possessing Impa shows herself and says her name is Veran and that she will be this game´s super villain. Then she lets everyone know Link was the genius who moved the barrier and flies over to possess Nayru in order to change the past and rule the world or become her own grandmother, can´t remember which. After this, Veran leaves and Ralph, Nayru´s self proclaimed bodyguard, goes after her in hopes to recover his life long friend. Impa then conveniently wakes up just in time to tell Link to help out and sends him off to see the Great Maku Tree. Nobody says it, but we all know everything is that little asshole´s fault.

4) Goron Elder from Majora´s Mask

The Goron elder is an aged goron who acts as the tribal patriarch for the community of gorons living in the Snow Peak region of the land of Termina. He also acts as the ruler of Goron Village and is very well respected by his fellow tribe members. I don´t know why and how the fuck it is possible, but he has also got a baby son. Something so old and downright ugly shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce anymore. Seriously, who the fuck agreed to mate with this guy? If gorons really do reproduce sexually it makes sense that we don´t get to see any goron females anywhere, as they committed mass suicide after learning this which cannot be un-learned.

The goron tribe is struck by a devastating winter during the events of Majora´s Mask and had sent the goron hero Darmani to investigate this severe change in temperature. After some time of not knowing of Darmani´s fate, the gorons start to get worried about him and about their own survival as well. This is when the goron elder just says “fuck it!” and decides to venture his old and brittle bones unto the freezing mountains completely alone in order to find Darmani. He proves his worth by freezing to death 50 meters from his home…

Is it just me or does that decision fail in so many levels that it makes Hugo Chavez look like the best ruler ever? First of all, he is supposed to be the leader of this tribe, if he dies those incompetently adorable gorons are left completely helpless. I mean, they are at the verge of murdering each other because no one in the village can even make a baby stop crying. They solve this issue by standing around all day covering their ears and making use of their imagining Scarlett Johansson´s boobs superpower.

He also completely abandons his baby son to go on a life threatening journey knowing full well how useless he really is. He could have, at least, taken a couple of bodyguards to help him along the way. He instead sets off with the same preparation he uses when getting ready for sex, completely naked and alone.

If he had really died out there the consequences would have been catastrophic for his people. None of them seem to know how to keep a baby alive, thus killing off the only heir to the throne. None of them seem to have any real intelligence or leadership skills at all. Bottom line is, this event would have caused the gorons to die out quicker than a black guy in an action movie.

First Zelda 25th Anniversary Concert Date And Early Tour Details Announced

Nintendo of America has announced several details about the upcoming Zelda 25th Anniversary concerts. The first concert will be held on October 21, 2011 at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. Tickets will go on sale August 1, 2011 and prices will start at $35. Nintendo has also revealed that a full concert tour will start in 2012.

NINTENDO CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF THE LEGEND OF ZELDA WITH SYMPHONY CONCERT

First Concert Will Be Oct. 21 in Los Angeles, Followed by Full Tour in 2012

REDMOND, Wash., July 21, 2011 – Nintendo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda™ video game series in style. The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert will be held Oct. 21 at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles, and will include songs from the iconic series hand-picked by Nintendo composer Koji Kondo and his team. A full concert tour for The Legend of Zelda will launch in 2012. “The Legend of Zelda has few peers in the pantheon of video game giants, and the games and their music have always shared a deep connection,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Through these concerts, fans nationwide will be able to gather and show their love for the quarter century of action, adventure and excitement that The Legend of Zelda games have brought to their lives.”

A 70-piece orchestra will be joined by a choir to perform new arrangements of a variety of songs from the series’ 25-year history. The concerts will be produced by Jason Michael Paul Productions, Inc., the producers of PLAY! A Video Game Symphony, which has toured the world performing music from video games.

“The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert Tour brings one of the video game industry’s most exciting and enduring franchises to the concert hall and presents what we feel is the definitive concert experience for the series,” said executive producer Jason Michael Paul. “It’s an event that fans and music aficionados won’t want to miss.”

Nintendo’s celebration of the 25th anniversary includes many elements. On June 19, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time™ 3D game for the Nintendo 3DS™ system, while The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game for the Wii™ console is planned for this holiday season. In September, Nintendo is offering the multiplayer fun of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords as a free gift to fans. Fans can download a Nintendo DSiWare™ version of the game using their Nintendo DSi™ or Nintendo DSi XL™ systems, or by accessing the Nintendo eShop with a Nintendo 3DS system (wireless broadband Internet access required for download).
