Is Rocksteady Working on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game?

Rocksteady has quickly grown fame as a developer. After one game on the PS2, the London developer that put out Batman: Arkham Asylum, showed players what it’s like to kick ass as Batman. Just a few months ago, they released Arkham City, a sequel that’s won everyone over. You’re probably wondering what Rocksteady’s up to now, right? They have expressed the desire to create more Batman games, but what if they went with another comic book first?

Co-Optimus is reporting that Rocksteady could be working on a game based on–wait for it…the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here’s what they’ve been told:

- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis is the alleged name of the title.

- Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are the four playable characters, each with their own varied move set and weapon of choice (sword, bo staff, sai, and nunchucku…respectively).

- Flashbacks are played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.

- Shurikens, smoke bombs, grappling hooks, and climbing foot spikes.

- Gameplay and story/stage progression similar to Batman: Arkham City.

- Classic characters such as Bebop and Rocksteady (warthog and rhinoceros), Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang act as bosses and in the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.

- The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be present and with them and other gadgets, the Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.

- Multiplayer is unknown.

- Graphics engine used is that of Arkham City.

- The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick, but the turtles themselves and their interactions with the Foot Clan, bosses, and story characters like April O’Neil and Casey Jones will still have comedy attached.

- Purportedly being in development for Wii U, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

A lot of this may sound silly on paper, but if anyone could make the Heroes in a Half Shell badass, it’d be Rocksteady.

It never really hits you that Mario is a mass murderer until he takes out some loved ones. That’s exactly what happened when he came across the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and, as you can see, Splinter isn’t always so tough and stoic.

Five O’Clock Fan Art is perfect for wrapping up the work day. You don’t want to think anymore, you just want to look at awesome things. And there’s nothing more awesome than a well crafted piece of videogame fan art. If you don’t agree, what the hell are you doing at a gaming blog?

Check out this new trailer for Game Arts’ Super Smash Bros.-style fighter Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up featuring Raphael and Casey Jones taking on a Foot Ninja and an Utrominater, whatever the hell that is.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up is scheduled for a fall release on the Wii, as part of the TMNT’s 25th anniversary, along with a remake of the side-scrolling arcade title TMNT: Turtles in Time, which will hit Xbox Live on July 22 and later this summer on the Playstation Network.

Today’s Watercooler features the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Remember when they had a live show and played hardcore death metal? Me neither, but it totally happened and I have proof. This is 100% real, and if you don’t believe it, well, then I guess you need to look up the definition of real.

Oh em jee. If the Ninja Turtles ever did go on tour with a soundtrack like this, I would totally paint my face and go see them. Or maybe I’d wear a mask… and bring eight of my friends… and have a ninja fight because they’re stealing our music. Yeah, that sounds right.

I also want to give a special shout out to Leonardo’s one-string guitar. Nothing rocks as hard as a single string.
