The biggest fighting tournament Australia has ever seen is getting closer and closer, and pre-registration for the event has started, allowing players to both save some cash and save their spots.

In just under two months, some of both Australia and the worlds best players will collide in what is set to be a massive tournament.

I was lucky enough to attend the event last year, and the great community and atmosphere made it something I’d recommend for every gamer to check out, whether you’re into Street Fighter or any fighting games for that matter.

Marvel v Capcom 3 is fresh off the cab rank and the first Melbourne based tournament is approaching rapidly… In two days actually!

The awesome guys over at Shadowloo and Couch Warriors have organised a fully fledged competitive tournament at the John Curtin Hotel in Carlton, Melbourne. Both THQ and Madman Entertainment will be supplying prizes for the winners including shirts, DVD’s, Blu-Ray’s and comic books.

If you’re interested in attending amongst some of Melbourne’s finest fighting game players, the details are below;

When: Sunday, Februrary 27th – 1:00PM Station
Where: 29 Lygon Street, Carlton Victoria 3053
Entry Fee: $5 Per Person, covers venue fee and tournament
Tournament Format: Best of 3 games,
Prizes: Shirts, Comics, DVD’s, Blu-Ray’s and possibly more.
Rules: Damage set to Medium, 99 second timer.

After a memorable and extremely successful Shadowloo Showdown 2k10, the awesome team over at the Shadowloo are preparing for round two and aiming to make the successor one of the biggest fighting events of the year and not just in Australia.

This first official teaser trailer shows the games that will be playable at the event, but more importantly it just gets me pumped to attend another awesome fighting event! Make sure to pencil in the 25th and 26th of June for a jam packed weekend of high caliber play and entertainment.

An apparent licensing issue is preventing the recently announced Marvel vs Capcom 3 TE Fightsticks from entering the United Kingdom.

With a design based off the incredibly high quality Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition sticks, the new MvC3 sticks were bound to be of a high standard however only players within the US will be able to experience them come launch. Due to licensing issues and various other problems the new products wont be available to UK customers until a later and as of now undisclosed date.

If you’re still in the market for one of these your best bet would be to order it online – however expect your wallet to take a financial beating as no doubt these products will fetch a premium price in their limited run.

I don’t follow Pokémon and don’t completely understand this, but apparently it’s a pretty big deal. Head to your friendly neighborhood Toys ‘R’ Us this weekend with your DS and a Pokémon Diamond or Pearl Game Card, and you will be able to digitally download a unique level 50 Dragonite. What’s so special about that?

Apparently, the Dragonite is super powerful, and this one in particular at level 50 is the only Dragonite that will be allowed in official videogame tournaments with a level 50 cap. Also, “Dragonite is battle-ready and equipped with dominating attacks such as Outrage, Dragon Dance, Thunderbolt, and the ultimate Dragon-type move, Draco Meteor.” Wow. So in summary:

Who: All Pokémon fans

What: Dragonite distribution for your Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl Game Card

When: Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9, 12 pm to 4 pm

Do you live in the NYC area? Do you love beating the shit out of other people in videogames? Do you also like getting exclusive free stuff? Then you should check out the Capcom Street Fighter Club event happening in Brooklyn next weekend.

This venue for this event is super-secret and hasn’t been announced. Information on the Capcom Unity site says only this:

We aren’t ready to give up the goods on the actual address yet, but I can tell you that the site is really, really cool and totally underground. I Am 8-bit main man Jon Gibson is going to be helping us again, and he’s outdoing himself this time around in terms of setting atmosphere. You will not believe what we’re going to create in BKLN, so if you live in NYC, close to NYC or can get your ass to NYC on Oct. 24, do so. Pictures will not do the night justice.

Playable at the event will be Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. These will be set up on HD TVs for your playing pleasure.

Still not convinced? Those who register for the event will get all sorts of Street Fighter swag such as a t-shirt, poster, and…soap? Yes, from the blog itself, you will get Street Fighter soap.

To register, you first have to register for the Capcom Unity site, then go here to sign up for the event. There were some technical issues with the sign up before, but it seems like everything’s been cleared up.

This is my copy of Halo 3. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Maybe Jack Thompson isn’t as crazy as we all know he is, and the Department of Defense actually is training an army of super soldiers through video games. Or maybe he is crazy and the Army is just jumping on the Halo 3 bandwagon.

Either way, The Army has teamed up with Microsoft to offer all you scum suckin’ maggots a chance to prove you aren’t a worthless lump of dog excrement – by putting together a Halo 3 Tournament, exclusively on Xbox Live.

Registration starts in March and the tournament starts in April, with prizes for winners and finalists. So if you think you’ve got game, prove it, and you could be the lucky winner of an all-expenses paid trip to a land of sun and sand (and oil). Or maybe just some exclusive Halo swag and Microsoft goodies.

For those interested in getting a little pre-tournament practice, There will also be some training drills to keep your skills sharp. Team Xbox reports there will be training sessions for sniping, heavy weapons and vehicles.

Registration for the first of three training sessions begins on Jan. 7, with gameplay beginning exclusively on Xbox LIVE on Jan. 19. Winners of these Basic Combat Training sessions will receive prizes, including Microsoft Points, exclusive “Halo 3” art, and more.

The Basic Combat Training schedule is as follows:

* Registration begins: 1/7, Training begins: 1/19 – Sniper School
* Registration begins: 1/28, Training begins: 2/9 – Heavy Weapons
* Registration begins: 2/18, Training begins: 3/1– Vehicles

Registration is open now, so get your butt into boot camp you useless ape, and earn the name “Spartan.”
