This may be the best trailer for a videogame I’ve ever seen. Hell, it might be the best trailer I’ve ever seen. Valve are getting great at making these short films; the characters shine through even with two minutes of screen time, and it makes me want the game even more. If this isn’t the purpose of a trailer, I don’t know what is.

It’s supposedly “leaked”, but I’m not buying that. Valve are careful about this stuff. It’s most likely been put out as leaked to get more press. I don’t know why, because I could watch this thing over and over again happily. It’s worth a post, leaked or not. Now excuse me while I go and enthuse a bit more over there.

Oh October, how I despise you and all of your delicious game releases. Having already sunk my money into Brutal Legend and pining for Uncharted 2, Borderlands is down there on my list, but it’s on my list all the same. Let’s all start taking bets on whether or not I’ll buy more than I can afford and overdraft my checking account.

As you probably know, some of us at Ripten are big fans of The Witcher. This means that it is with great pleasure that I present to you some leaked footage of the sequel. The video is marked “internal” and obviously isn’t for public consumption, but who cares, eh? It looks bloody great.

CD Projeckt RED have issued a statement saying “We can’t and won’t try to deny the facts… Currently we are looking for a potential publisher (or publishers) for this title, and this leak is an uncontrolled side effect of that process.”

I liked the Witcher, but I didn’t have time to play it through. This one looks even better, and it might even make me want to finish the original so I can enjoy the sequel.

It’s obviously not the full song, and to be honest it’s not likely to be the best one, but damn it, it’s Daft Punk, and it’s new. Even beside the fact that the game is looking surprisingly entertaining, DJ Hero is taunting Daft Punk fans everywhere into wanting the game- new tracks, heavy focus, even silly things like the Alive 2007 stage.

Anyone remember this post I made back in May? In it, I made threats to attack Activision if Daft Punk wasn’t in the game(I was joking, Mr. Activision lawyer). Obviously, they took this the way I meant them to take it and promptly added them into the game, making me and many others very cheerful about it. No need to thank me, honestly. Anyone would have done the same thing.

September 9th is approaching quickly, and my rush to gather $250 for The Beatles: Rock Band is becoming a lot more difficult, but I’m starting to realize that it’s going to be worth the work.

Today, Harmonix added another trailer to the pre-order club site that is only accessible for people that pre-ordered the game, and the trailer reveals a bunch of new tracks from the Fab Four, including (but not limited to) Revolution, Paperback Writer, and Twist & Shout. But there are a lot more songs than the ones featured in the trailer being revealed soon.

Tomorrow, when all of the previews for the game go online, many new tracks will be revealed, and you can see the list of songs being revealed after the jump. Above is the trailer, so leave your thoughts on it in the comments!

I want this game right now, but apparently I can’t have it until August 25th. Well screw that! Screw that right to heck!

Straight out of E3 today is yet another video for The Beatles: Rock Band, but this time with gameplay. The trailer for the game gives us a good look at some of the visual changes added to The Beatles: Rock Band, namely the psychedelic background visuals, addition of 3-part harmonies, and slight changes to the note boards.

One of the things that kind of irks me about the trailer is the game’s rendition of “Get Back”. It’s a lot different than the one I’m used to, but it still takes place atop the headquarters of Apple Corps. I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually, but I’d much prefer the version with McCartney’s higher-pitched vocals. Oh, and the trailer’s gorgeous too!

One of the surprises out of Nintendo’s conference today was the announcement of a new Pokemon Dungeon game. Not so much that the game existed, since it’s already out in Japan, rather the fact that the game would be released in the US.

While I never actually played the last, er, 4 games in the series, the new one looks very interesting. I’ll probably check it out a little- if anything, just for Bidoof. God, he’s so adorable.

Quick post right here, because I’ve got a bunch more trailers to post, but I just have to say that of all of the DS games announced at Nintendo’s E3 conference, I’m most excited for Professor Layton & The Diabolical Box. As the sequel to Prof. Layton and the Curious Village, it has a lot to look up to, but I’m sure that if it sticks with the formula, it’ll be fantastic.

I spent a month playing the first game (due to a combination of my baffling stupidity and horrible attention span) and it was the best month ever. The game is intelligent, tricky, and fun, and I can’t wait until The Diabolical Box hits (and kills) stateside August 24.

NO PROFESSOR DON’T OPEN THE BOOOOOOX!

I’m a huge fan of the first two games in the M&L series, so you can imagine my excitement when Nintendo announced Mario & Luigi 3 in October last year. Unfortunately, the game was for Japan only, and my happiness quickly subsided- until today, when Nintendo announced Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story for the DS at their E3 conference.

The trailer’s really interesting too. It shows Luigi & Mario getting sucked into Bowser’s insides, and how they plan to get out- by kicking and punching everything in their way. The best news is that you can also play as Bowser himself! I can’t wait until this game comes out this fall.

Super Mario Galaxy was one of my favorite games of 2007. It actually gave me a lot of hope for the Wii, because I knew that if all third-party developers were as good at making games for the Wii as Nintendo was, the system would thrive for a while. And while that theory didn’t stand the test of time, I’m glad to say that Super Mario Galaxy is back- and it has a trailer! You can watch the trailer above. You know, if you want to. Or don’t, whatever.

God, I love me some Metroid. Sure, I wasn’t a big fan of Metroid Prime 3, but I’ve always wished that Nintendo would add another Metroid game to the Wii lineup- and today they did with the announcement of Metroid: Other M.

The trailer for the game is above, and it looks great. Even though it’s clearly CG, I love the introduction, which gives a bit of a backstory to the game. But I don’t want to ruin it, so click above and enjoy the masterpiece that is Metroid: Other M.

Here, have a Mass Effect 2 trailer. No no, it’s free. You don’t have to pay. Go ahead, watch it- there’s a potential spoiler there, so don’t do it if you really care about the plotline of the game. Perhaps you could get someone who doesn’t care to watch it for you and tell you how awesome the cities and stuff look, as well as the epic looking shot of the Normandy, but miss out any spoilers. Just make sure this person is really good at describing stuff. It’s a nice looking trailer.

We don’t know much about The Saboteur right now, but EA’s WWII era shooter seems a bit more interesting with this new trailer. The video features the protagonist, as he makes his way to a rooftop, and gets poised to shoot some Nazis.

The end of the video also gives us a loose date of Fall/Winter of this year, which is good, because it means that we’ll definitely be seeing more of the game soon, probably at E3 this week. Until then, we can look forward to the game when it comes out later this year for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Courtesy of our friends over at Destructoid, we’ve got some brand new leaked footage of Assassin’s Creed 2, featuring the Altair we all know and… tolerate. Of course, the video’s only eleven seconds, but if you don’t care so much, I’m sure this will tide you over until the game actually releases. God only knows when that’ll happen, but I’m sure we’ll learn more at E3.

THQ just announced MX vs. ATV Reflex, the 4th entry in the MX vs. ATV series since MX vs. ATV Unleashed in 2005. Above is the trailer, and while it looks like your average adrenalike-junkie racing game, THQ and Rainbow Studios assure us it’s so much more.

Reflex will sport real-time terrain deformation and a new “dual-stick” control scheme adds another layer of complexity to an otherwise simple game. THQ also says that the game will have a Rhythm Physics engine that intends to immerse players in the “rhythm of the game”… whatever that means. MX vs. ATV Reflex hits the DS, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS2 this holiday season.

The sequel to the 2003 sleeper hit Beyond Good & Evil was announced late last year, with a trailer to accompany it. It wasn’t much, though- we saw some pre-rendered footage of Jade & Pey’j lost in the desert, and that was about it. But some new footage from the game appeared online today, and I must say, it looks astounding.

Sure, Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed that this is Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage, but the shoe fits. The character running in the video has the same clothes and general facial structure as Jade, and according to some industrious viewers, the video was made using the Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed engine.

The video is obviously pre-rendered, but if this is indeed BG&E2 footage, then it’s going to be a fantastic game when it comes out… in the future. Even if it’s not footage from the game, it’s footage from something, and that’s something I need to play.

Atari has already made it pretty clear that the PS3/Xbox 360 and Wii versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game are different stylistically, and this new trailer makes it absolutely clear. That’s not to say that the Wii version is uglier, because I personally like the style. Even Dan Akroyd said he prefers it to the other version:

Honestly, I love the way we look in the Wii platform, because it resembles the animation that was done in “The Incredibles.” Anybody who looks like an Incredible is automatically a superhero. And I was so pleased that they shaved off at least 60 pounds from my current bulk. The boys look good. We resemble the actors who were in the first movie.

I can’t wait to play this game when it hits retail June 16th, though I’ll still have to see some footage of the Xbox 360 version to make a decision between the two.

My love affair with Klonoa is absolutely no secret- I played Lunatea’s Veil back in 2002, and have been looking forward to the series’s revival ever since. Of course, when Namco-Bandai announced the new Klonoa last October, I was at a crossroads. Sure, the game is a remake of  the Playstation’s Door to Phantomile, but remakes don’t always work out well. On one hand, Klonoa’s new design is kind of stupid. His new ears make his species even more questionable, and those of you that are fans of the old Klonoa will probably be distraught at his new, shiny look. On the other hand, the cel-shading is still great, and it’s still Klonoa!

Namco-Bandai recently announced that the game had gone gold, and with it, they released a new trailer for the game. Sure, it plays out more like a commercial, with an annoying voiceover and over-excited kids, but the best part is that Klonoa looks exactly the same. With any luck, this game will be absolutely fantastic, and my inevitable review will be positive, but I guess we won’t know until the game comes out. By the way, that happens May 5th, and the game’s a Wii exclusive. Hit the jump for the gallery of screenshots!

EA today announced Dead Space Extraction, the Wii edition of 2008’s acclaimed Dead Space. The game is set before the events of the other versions and will incorporate the Wii controls in an On-rails first-person shooter style. The game will also feature co-op multiplayer. See the trailer after the jump.

This game seems as much “House of the Dead in space” as the other versions were “Resident Evil 4 in space”- but who’s complaining? Dead Space worked well, and I expect that this will too- it’s good to see developers working with the strengths of the console.

Newest good sign that Sonic Unleashed might be the first good Sonic in some time: It honors the time-honored tradition (first introduced in Sonic Adventure) of having a whale in a Sonic stage. Here Sonic’s taking it to the icy continent of Holoska, where he speeds around some snowy hills, rides a sled off huge jump and then runs off a giant whale that just sorta pops up in the middle of the ocean. Sega is pulling out all the stops in their upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog next gen title. The Sonic Unleashed cinematic intro looks like it was directed by Michael Bay, packing more high speed chases, explosions, and special effects than Bad Boys, Transformers, and Armageddon combined. Alright, I might be exaggerating a little, but it looks really really good.

A day mode featuring classic speed centric Sonic gameplay, a change of pace night mode that transforms Sonic into a Werehog platforming explorer, and now a big budget game intro! Throw it a certificate for a bucket of popcorn and a free car wash and I’m sold!

Afterthought: What do you guys think of the new intro and Sega’s overall attempt to revitalize the speedy blue bastard?

A new Halo Wars trailer has popped up out of New Zealand. I think I heard something somewhere about this whole “Halo” business, so I thought maybe somebody might be interested in watching it. We’ve plopped it here on our site just for those few.

Bungie have confirmed that the line “Maddie, where are you?” – which we spotted in the new Halo 3 campaign trailer released yesterday – is not related to missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.

Over on Bungie.net, writer Luke Smith said:

“As always, all of the characters in our games are fictional. Any similarities between real life and the characters in our games are purely coincidental.

“That said, this is both an unfortunate and untended [sic] coincidence.”

Which is what was expected, and mercifully the mainstream rags haven’t picked up on it. But do you believe it’s genuine or a sly bit of PR?

If, like me, you are looking forward to the brand new space-based, real-time-combat-using, better-than-WoW, totally-awesome new MMO from Codemasters that is Jumpgate Evolution, then you may feel your pants tightening with the following trailer.

Nations At War is the first trailer for the game developed by NetDevil to really show its scale. With dozens of ship types and several beautifully crafted space scenes, this trailer not only gives us what we want, but is also a clear indication of what the end result will be.

The first trailer for Telltale’s new episodic game based on the Wallace And Gromit animated films we told you about earlier this week has now been released, along with a few screenshots and some indication as to how the game itself will play. Champion.

In a press release issued with the trailer, Telltale explains:

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures will combine the rich and imaginative storytelling the quirky inventor and his faithful canine sidekick are known for with the critically-acclaimed writing, fun gameplay, and unique TV-style format Telltale has pioneered. Assuming the roles of both Wallace and Gromit, players will spend each episode exploring a vivid world, assembling intricate contraptions, and getting the duo out of the sticky situations they frequently find themselves in. The new trailer, artwork, and additional information about the series can be found at www.telltalegames.com/wallaceandgromit.

As a fan of the animated series for as long as I can remember, I am optimistic that Telltale will be able to capture the humour and charm of the original plasticine duo. Now join me, if you will, for a toast of crackers and Wensleydale cheese.

The boys over at finalfantasy-xiii.net unearthed a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer they believe to be leaked from Jump Festa 2007. I have never seen this trailer before, and it appears to be the real deal, however it looks like 100% CG footage with little to no actual gameplay. Video quality is decent, so it was likely shot with an HD camera and scaled down for web use.

Finalfantasy-xiii.net claims they are unsure of the source (who shot it). The video is currently being hosted by a Photobucket user, and I am fairly sure it won’t be around for long. Have at it after the jump.

And just when I thought Duke Nukem Forever was the industry’s biggest joke. What my eyes have just seen cannot be unseen and there are no words to begin to explain or elaborate. Just watch.

You’ll hate me for this, but I promise you reader, the following trailer is assuredly the most amazingly agonizing way to have 4 minutes sucked out of your soul.

With Sony’s E3 Conference at an end, there was an unexpected silence from Killzone 2.  However, if you make your way to the US PlayStation Store you’ll be able to find a new trailer.  And it’s not the same old single-player stuff.  It’s Killzone 2 Multiplayer and it looks incredible.

Rumoured to be 32 player online, the multi-player will support a new badge system, which allows users to complement their play style by mixing abilities into primary and secondary slots. PSU writes, “The primary badge defines the main role of the player character, as well as its outward appearance, while the secondary badge serves as a complementary ability that enhances the main role.” The full list of badges can be found at PSU.com
