Wii-kly Virtual Console and WiiWare Update
by Rangebar Merani on March 30, 2009

I know, I know. I haven’t kept up with my Wii-kly Virtual Console and WiiWare update for the past two weeks or so, but I’m back with this week’s edition and it’s a fairly special one. Why so special you ask?
Well according to Nintendo, this is “The Farewell Edition” of their normal Wii-kly Update press release because starting next week, with the April 5 release of the DSi, they will be opening the Nintendo DSi Shop. So from now on this Wii-kly update will feature not only new downloadable titles for the Wii, but also for the DSi. So now I’ve got to come up with a new name for this post by next week. Any recommendations?
Hit the jump to find out what two games were uploaded to the Virtual Console and WiiWare today, and fans of the upcoming Punch-Out!! for the Wii should be in for a surprise with what the VC has to offer this week. Read more…
Virtual Console to support arcade titles
by Sam Naylor on March 25, 2009

If I was at GDC, then I could say that I was at the Nintendo keynote, but instead, I’ll just report some news that I found as if I was. The Wii’s Virtual Console service will soon include arcade games as well as the myriad of other retro platforms it supports. The four available now are:
* Gaplus (Namco Bandai): 600 Wii Points
* Mappy (Namco Bandai): 500 Wii Points
* The Tower Of Druaga (Namco Bandai): 500 Wii Points
* Starforce (Tecmo): 500 Wii Points
Space Harrier and Solvalou are on the way as well. Although British arcades when I was wee didn’t have obscure games like this (at least not the ones near me), I have hope that the addition of arcade games will allow the Virtual Console to be even more comprehensive.

Another Monday, another update to the Wii’s Virtual Console and WiiWare Channels. Some pretty good ones this week with LIT for the WiiWare, a horror/puzzle game involving creatures of the night taking over a high school, and a SEGA Genesis oldie in Wolf of the Battlefield: MERCS. I’ve posted the trailer for LIT below and I’ve got to admit the game looks pretty cool and is possibly one of the better WiiWare games that has came out as of lately. Hit the jump for the full description of both games and how much they’ll cost you.
