Zelda: Skyward Sword Gold Wii Remote Bundle Details Revealed

Nintendo of America has finally announced the details on how fans can acquire the Gold Zelda Wii Remote. A Special Edition Zelda: Skyward Sword bundle, containing the game and the Gold Zelda Wii Remote, will be available when the title launches on November 20th, 2011 for an MSRP of $69.99 USD. Zelda: Skyward Sword will also be sold without the Gold Wii Remote for an MSRP of $49.99.

Additionally anyone that purchases the game during its first run, be it the bundle or stand alone, will be treated to a FREE music CD. This CD will feature orchestral arrangements from various Zelda titles in the series, all of which will be preformed at The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concerts.

Wii Remote Plus Dated For North America

The Wii Remote Plus has finally been given an official North American release date of November 7th. The Wii Remote Plus works like a standard Wii Remote but also has the Wii MotionPlus accessory built into the device. The Wii Remote Plus will be available in White, Black, Blue, and Pink when it launches and will have an MSRP of $39.99 USD.

Nintendo Admits Wii Remote Plus Is ‘Real’

Last week Ripten reported a strange bundle for the Wii containing FlingSmash with a device identified as the ‘Wii Remote Plus’. Nintendo has been relatively quiet on the matter until today.

In a recent conversation with Eurogamer Nintendo admitted the Wii Remote Plus is indeed “real” but then went on to say they had ”nothing to announce on this at the moment.”

The Wii Remote Plus is believed to be be a combo Wii Remote and Wii Motion plus.

FlingSmash is due out November 7th so expect a more formal announcement on the device soon.

FlingSmash Introduces Wii Remote Plus?

GameStop.com has updated their box art for the upcoming game FlingSmash for the Nintendo Wii. Strangely enough this game will be bundled with what appears to be called the ‘Wii Remote Plus’.

It is already well known that FlingSmash requires players to use the Wii Motion Plus accessory and it’s thought that this new Wii Remote Plus has the Motion Plus built right in. This sighting of the Wii Remote Plus is the first time anyone had heard of the new accessory. Hopefully Nintendo will officially announce the device soon.

FlingSmash releases on November 7th of this year with an MSRP of $49.99 with apparently, the Wii Remote Plus.

Update: GameStop has taken the listing of the bundle off their website. Nintendo is probably pissed.

Usefulness- 5 out of 10

This item is indeed useful if you need it. As stated earlier this item holds up to four Nintendo Wii Remotes with ease. The usefulness will clearly depend on who’s using the reward. If you need something to hold your Wii Remotes you will definitely find it more useful than some of the other rewards.

As A Collectable- 5 out of 10

Since this item is currently sold out at Club Nintendo, I feel as if it may become a greater Nintendo collectable. Even then I doubt this item will be highly sought after by collectors since it’s bland and doesn’t feature any specific characters. Having the official Club Nintendo logo helps out it out though.

Overall Value- 5 out of 10

There are some much cooler items that someone could save up for at Club Nintendo. This doesn’t mean that the item is awful; I just feel it’s pretty average overall. Hurting the value is the fact that similar items can be purchased in stores. If you buy it in stores, however, you will not get it with the Club Nintendo logo on it and it’s not exactly the same.

If you need an item like this and have some coins to spare, go ahead. Also if you’re just into Nintendo collecting, like I am, then get this item if it’s ever possible. Otherwise just wait or save for some better Club Nintendo rewards.

Nintendo’s Wiimote Hit with Patent Infringement Lawsuit by Hillcrest Labs

Nintendo just keeps getting tapped with patent troubles, with its highly successful Wii now the target of a patent lawsuit from Hillcrest Labs.

Hillcrest claims that its patent for “a handheld three-dimensional pointing device” and a vague description of a “navigation interface display system that graphically organizes content for display on a television” apparently predates Nintendo’s Wiimote.

On Wednesday, Maryland-based Hillcrest Labs announced that it has filed a patent infringement with the U.S. International Trade Commission, as well as another patent infringement suit in a U.S. District Court in Maryland regarding Nintendo’s Wiimote.

Hillcrest Labs does have a product based on this technology, called The Loop remote (pictured above), based on what the company calls “Freespace” motion control technology. It seems clear that The Loop remote is much different from the Wiimote, and its hard to believe that something so vague as “a 3D pointing device” could actually best Nintendo in a court of law.

Hillcrest has requested Nintendo stop shipping Wiis to the U.S. and reward Hillcrest with unspecified monetary damages. Oh, that should be easy, right Nintendo?

This is just the latest patent infringement suit that Nintendo has been hit with. Just this past July, a federal court in Texas found three Nintendo controllers—the Wii Classic controller, the WaveBird controller and the Gamecube controller—in violation of patents held by Texas-based Anascape. Nintendo has appealed the decision.

Mark Wahlberg Proves Wii Isn’t Real Gaming?

After a conversation with our own Dan Landis, who reported just a few minutes ago that Marky Mark Walberg injured himself while playing with his Wii, I simply had to take the opportunity to “wii-examine” the statement Mark made not even two weeks ago.

A reporter for People Magazine asked the underwear model, turned rapper, turned actor, if he had played the Max Payne video game, to which he responded:

“I got more responsibility now than I’ve ever had with the kids and everything else. I don’t want to be spending 14 hours on the videogame and then eight hours on the set. It’s not going to work out.”

So, he doesn’t have time to play a video game that may also constitute as research for a role he is about to undertake, but he has the time to play with the Nintendo Wii. If ever you needed proof that the Wii is not considered a real gaming system by some of the people who own it, this may be it.

I personally have nothing against the Wii, but after reporting on a NYC Fitness center charging $110 an hour to play Wii Fit, and now an actor who claims he can’t play video games because of his addictive personality hurting his wrist in a Wii Remote accident, it’s clear to me that the Wii is a phenomenon — one that will likely continue with or without the support of the hardcore gamer.

Nintendo Dominates Amazon’s Videogames Top Sellers

Merry Christmas, Nintendo! For the second year in a row, the Nintendo Wii is one of the must-have holiday items. And although I’m completely aware of the console’s success, I was still pleasantly surprised to see just how well the company was doing on Amazon.

Amazon’s videogames best sellers list goes as follows:

1. Nintendo Wii Console
2. Super Mario Galaxy for Nintendo Wii
3. Wii Remote Controller
4. Wii Nunchuk Controller
5. Crackdown for Xbox 360
6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Xbox 360
7. Wii Points Card
8. Wii Play with Wii Remote
9. Wii Zapper with Link’s Crossbow Training
10. Wii Charge Station

The thought of all those little children running amok with their Wii Zappers blasting just warms my cold heart. The list changes hourly, and while the positions have been shifting somewhat, the same items have been there for several hours.

As a Nintendo fanboy, I’m pretty ecstatic. It’s also nice to see Call of Duty 4 doing so well, because I personally believe it’s the best game of the year. As for Crackdown? That seems out of the blue, but I think I remember Amazon having it on sale for $19.99 a little while back, which would explain its presence.
