Battlefield 3 Beta Code Redemption Page Appears, Then Vanishes

UPDATE: THE BETA IS COMING ON SEPTEMBER 29th!!

Being one of the many people vastly interested in the Battlefield 3 beta, any tidbit of information on the upcoming play-test is exciting and intriguing. With rumors circulating about the Battlefield 3 beta launching this week on all platforms, the screenshot shown below seems legit, and if so, we’ll all be playing EA’s upcoming shooter in no time!

As of right now, the page has been taken down by EA , but luckily Battlefieldo were able to take a few snapshots before the link went dead. With people such as “Zh1nt0″ (Battlefield’s community manager) tweeting such things as “This weeks going to be off the hook #BF3″, it’s not hard to imagine that the beta is primed and ready to go. Expect continuous coverage including video and in-detail text about my impressions on the anticipated sequel right here on RipTen as soon as the friggin’ beta goes live.

This Skyrim Case Mod Is A Work Of Art

Recently we’ve seen Gears of War and Star Wars branded official Xbox’s, and while they look damn impressive, leave it to a fan with a knack for arts and case modding to completely blow them out of the water. Britney, who goes by the name of “Totally Lame Robot” has recreated the Stone wall from the initial Skyrim trailer on an original model Xbox 360. Check it out:

The fine folk over at Game Informer have snapped up some exclusive shots of Bioware’s forthcoming Space Action/RPG, Mass Effect 3. Ya know, because they have the exclusive on it. (Stupid print press /jealous)

It’s definitely shaping up to be a fine looking game, with improved shadows and reflections, as well as cleaner textures. Hopefully this time the frame-rate stays stable, but FPS matters not with screenshots, so here you are;

Gears Of War 3 Release Date Announced

Get your calendars out Ladies & Gentlemen, the hugely anticipated third game in the revered Gears of War series now has an official release date.

Gears of War 3 will launch worldwide on September 20th, except in Japan, where it will go on sale come the 22nd of September. After the initial (and somewhat long) delay, it’s good to see the game’s finally on track for release. Let’s hope the upcoming beta will satiate our hunger for excessive violence, until then, rest easy knowing Gears of War 3 is coming.

The First Battlefield 3 Gameplay Trailer Looks Amazing

Battlefield 3 Is The Next Game Informer Cover Story (We’re Jealous)

I can’t even begin to express how fucking happy I am right now. No seriously, look at the cover for the latest Game Informer below and tell me that it isn’t perfection (click here for full size);

DICE are finally spilling the beans on the seriously long awaited return to form, Battlefield 3, in the march issue of Game Informer. From the cover alone we now know the setting and possible theme DICE are aiming to achieve with this installment, and if this cover is any indication then count me in. The game will be built on the Frostbite 2 engine, which is armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility.

RC-XD is the deadliest killstreak, with Valkyries being the least deadliest.

Since the game launched, 161 World War’s were fought everyday with over 1.1 Trillion shots fired. The kill count to date is equal to the population of the world x9. Since it’s release Black Ops players have fallen the height of Mount Everest 5,671,102 times, winning Wager matches of over 147 Billion CoD points and all of this was argued, bragged and laughed over about on over 43 Million user generated videos.

Pre Order Two Worlds II from Gamestop and Unlock Ridiculous Labyrinth Dungeon

Want more content for the upcoming RPG, Two Worlds II? Well pre-order the game from your local Gamestop and you’ll have access to 2 special pieces of content. The first being a powerful sword by the name of “Luciendar” , of which the stats can be viewed in the screenshot below:

The next is a mind-boggling dungeon, entitled “Labyrinth”. As the name implies, it’s a giant maze full of enemies to kill, and loot to plunder.

I don’t want to keep forcing the issue (because the Gamestop staff will do that in my stead), but these are some incredible looking pieces of content. If you’re looking to get the most out of your Two Worlds II experience, this is an absolute must.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Delayed Beyond 2011

Remember 2009? That’s when Aliens: Colonial Marines was originally due to hit shelves. It didn’t come out in 2010 and 2011 will be no exception, as the president of Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford has stated that there will be no Aliens: Colonial Marines this year.

It would seem that the studio is dedicating most of it’s resources on Duke Nukem Forever and the inevitable Borderlands sequel, so one would assume that the Aliens game is the last thing on their mind at the present time. It’s too bad, from what little we’ve seen it looked like it could be a great Aliens game and lord knows that franchise needs more love, as the last game (Aliens Vs Predator) wasn’t so great to play, however RipTen’s Gavin Bard was impressed, giving it an 8.

New Mass Effect 2 DLC Incoming

Although the Cerberus Network will cease operations on January 24th, Bioware hasn’t finished expanding the universe of Mass Effect 2. As a matter of fact, a new DLC pack is on it’s way for 2011. CDN wrote:

Daily postings will cease except for three weeks in 2011. A week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3.

Mass Effect 2′s last piece of downloadable content was, “The Lair of the Shadow Broker” which released earlier on the 7th of September. Our own Steph Gutowski loved it, which should come as a surprise to no one.

The Playstation 3 version of the game is due to hit January 18 in North America, while Mass Effect 3 is slated for a holiday 2011 release date. So expect more Mass Effect 2 content before then!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Is The Most Pirated Game Of 2010 – Yarrrh!

Call Of Duty: Black Ops is well known for selling an insane amount of copies, in fact it’s one of the fastest selling video games of all time. According to TorrentFreak, the game is now also known as the most pirated game of 2010.

The PC version of Black Ops was pirated 4.2 Million times, beating out Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (3.96 million downloads), Mafia II and Mass Effect 2 to become the most stolen video game product this year.

Pirates (Yarrrh!) who own a Xbox 360 also dabbled in stealing Black Ops, downloading the Xbox version 930,000 times.

Surprisingly however, Dante’s Inferno took the throne as the most heavily pirated 360 game of 2010. Over on the Wii side of things, Super Mario Galaxy 2 took the top spot for downloads. Them damn pirates love them some Mario.

So Congratulations (I think?) to the winners of the Pirate cup, until next year!

Two New DLC Packs Coming To Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow

Konami has revealed details on two upcoming packs of DLC for Castlevania:Lords of Shadow. The two packs will hit early 2011, and are entitled “Reverie” and “Resurrection” .

“Reverie” would have you return to the Castle to assist an ex servant of the Queen of Vampires.

SPOILERS: It would seem after the Queen was slain, evil was unleashed. Being that Castlevania is about kicking evil’s ass, its your job to stop it, naturally.

“Resurrection” is the second pack, which is apparently the larger of the two. It will take place immediately after the end of the disc based game, giving players “some insight into the dramatic epilogue seen by players upon completion of the game.” (Epic ending was epic) Konami also states that it will feature a, “Final showdown with a very notorious enemy.”

No pricing or concrete release date (aside from early 2011) has been announced yet, but RipTen will keep you up to date as soon as details are confirmed.

Dead Rising 2: More Custom Weapons Than You Can Shake an Electrified Rake At!! . . . and Co-Op!!

As you may already know, a big feature of Dead Rising 2 will be the ability to combine items into badass weapons of undead destruction. What you may not know is that you’re going to be able to play the entire game with a friend!! or a stranger . . . Read on!!

Here’s a list of just some of the custom weapons you’ll be able to make in DR 2:

Claws
Boxing Gloves + Bowie Knife
These work like Wolverine’s claws, without all the angst about being immortal. Cut zombies to shreds!! Wearing the hidden Blanka mask makes this even more awesome.

Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
Box of Nails + Gas Can
An exploding gas can full of nails is a good thing to toss into a crowd of zombies.

Drill Bucket
Bucket + Drill
It’s a metal bucket with a few drills taped to the outside, pointing in. Slam it on a zombie’s head and the drills will make short work of it’s cranium. Ouch.

Molotov
Newspaper + Booze
What’s a zombie game without a molotov cocktail capable of setting the undead ablaze? A zombie game I don’t wanna play.

Electric Rake
Car Battery + Rake
Imagine a rake. Now send millions of volts of electricity through it and then go and poke zombies with it. Sounds like fun, eh?

Gems + Leaf Blower
Fire round gems at zombies. Watch and laugh as they slip and fall.

A water gun which has been modified to fire blasts of ice, freezing zombies in place. You can then pull a “Demolition Man” and smash them to pieces.

Box of Nails + MMA Gloves
They work just like regular ol’ MMA gloves (Chuck has surprisingly good Muay Thai moves), but the addition of nails make them something slightly more awesome.

Fountain Lizard
Lizard Head Mask + Pipe
Toss on a Godzilla-looking mask and throw a pipe in the mouth to spew flames at your zombie foes.

Dynameat
Human Hand + TNT
Zombies are attracted to human flesh. Use this to your advantage! Toss a human hand with an added bonus into a crowd.

Fire Spitter
Tiki Torch + Light Machine Gun
What’s better than a machine gun? A machine gun that lights enemies on fire, perhaps?

Freedom Bear
Giant Teddy Bear + Light Machine Gun
He may look like a cute and cuddly bear, but he’s actually an automatic sentry gun. Plop him down and he’ll be your buddy, protecting the area and looking adorable.

Flamethrower
Gas Can + Super Soaker
It’s a flamethrower. How were we ever OK with this not being in the last game?

Rocket Launcher
Pipe + Fireworks
Not quite what you’re thinking. A series of pipes fires off the fireworks inside. They aren’t super accurate, but they do explode limbs like a charm.

Exsanguinator
Vacuum Cleaner + Saw Blade
Giant, rotating saws at the end of vacuum cleaner. Handy as it cleans up all the blood while you cut it out of flesh!

Blambow
Bow And Arrows + TNT
Inspired by a certain warrior of the 1980s, this will ruin just about any zombie’s day.

Beer Hat
Bottle of Beer + Hard Hat
Portable heath! Unfortunately if you drink too much you’ll start vomitting. Less unfortunate: Zombies can slip on the vomit.

Heliblade
Toy Helicopter + Machete
Zombies are attracted to the noise-making helicopter. Too bad there’s a giant, head-cutting blade spinning on the top of it. Set it flying and let it go to work!

Power Guitar
Guitar + Amp
Rock out with a power chord to knock all enemies around you on their zombie behinds.

Pitchfork Shotgun

Self explanitory . . . check out this video.

“But Dave, you said there’s co-op!!” Well I did, and there IS, so relax!!

Dead Rising 2 will feature a drop in/drop out co-op system where one person will serve as a host and the other as a guest. The host will determine where you are within the game’s storyline, and the guest is pretty much along for the ride, the xp and cash. There is also some sort of reality show that takes place during the game in which there will be 4-player co-op zombie killin’ action.

DMC4 is 720p on PS3 & Xbox 360 Despite Blog’s “Press Release”

A certain Gaming Blog got a tad worked up over a supposed Capcom Press Release, which states that the console versions of Devil May Cry 4 run at a sub-HD resolution. This press release was fake.

The press release reads thus:

PC version will supports DX9 and DX10 versions.The PC version support higher resolution (In order to maintain stability in the game at 60 FPS, XBOX360, PS3 supports only 1024 * 640 resolution).

Apart form the questionable English, which could be explained by being a poor translation, the “press release” is wrong. Both console demos of DMC4 have been confirmed by Beyond3d’s pixel counters to run natively at 720p. That is, 1280 by 720 pixels.

Although the blogger asks for confirmation from the retail game and not the demo, his fears should be put to rest. In my experience there has yet to be a game that has reduced its resolution from the demo to the full retail release release.

Furthermore, games are designed with a particular resolution in mind and a decision to lower the resolution would not be made at the last minute.

Need more evidence? Each console demo runs at a very strong 60 frames per second at 720p. There is no need for the resolution of the game to be lowered. Moreover, the development of both the demo and the full retail game were finished simultaneously, which would make a difference in native resolution all the more absurd.

As Nicolas Parson’s would say, we’ll give the blogger the benefit of the doubt and presume he was actively misled, rather than attempting to mislead others himself. One things for sure, he can calm the hell down:

Both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of Devil May Cry 4 run natively at 720p and at 60fps.

Play.com Live: First Major UK Gaming Event

Play.com Live have it covered this year for all you Brits. They will now let the general public get their hands on some of 2008′s games and entertainment, long before they arrive in the Play.com warehouse for sale.

Play.com Live will be taking place in Wembley Stadium, and on March 15-16 you can attend for free from 10 AM to 6 PM. This also looks to be the biggest games convention to be available to the general public in the UK; an event backed by Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft, Activision, and THQ among others.

All attendees on those dates will get free goodie bags and many prizes, including the chance to win £50,000 each day of the public event. To access all areas of this event you will need a VIP pass, but these cost a reasonable £16 for a chance to play the big hitters of 2008.
