As humankind continues to delve deeper and deeper into the valleys and plains of my beloved Skyrim, those of us who are occasionally forced from this beautiful world must sate our battle lust with YouTubes. Thankfully, Criken knows exactly what every Dovahkiin needs when there are no dragons around to be slain. Watch as he scales mountains and trolls wagons in the name of Talos. This beautiful compilation highlights some of the more memorable glitches and oddities one may come across during their adventures. Pay close attention– or else you too may experience death by cookery. It’s real. I swear.

This Metal Cover of Guile’s Theme Goes With Everything

We all know that Guile’s Theme goes with everything. If you didn’t know that, then you don’t belong on the internet.

Anyhow, sure Guile’s original theme goes with everything, but this metal cover by Charlie Parra goes with everything that kicks ass.

This isn’t the first video game music cover that the Peruvian guitar sensation has done, he also did a pretty bad ass Duke Nukem “Grabbag” Cover as well as one of my favorite covers of the E1M1 music from the original DooM.

Everyone loves to say they’re the best at their favorite video game, and how they can kick all their friends asses. So you may think you’re pretty pro at Dark Souls, but Youtube user SexyShoiko‘s seed run will have you crying like a new born baby.

I myself have spent over 50 hours with Dark Souls and only managed to complete the game once and am currently half way through New Game+. SexShoiko however has managed to complete the entire game in less than an hour and a half. Un-friggin-believable. Next time you’re bragging to your friends about how good you are at Dark Souls, remember these videos and realize you actually suck.

Erin Michael Vondrak of Seattle wants to work at Valve more than anyone else and she wrote a song to prove it. She’s applied and heard nothing back, a feeling many of us know well. So, she’s taking a slightly more forward, audio visual approach. If you’re planning your own video resume, take notes. This might get you noticed… on the internet, at least. E3 2011: Xbox 360 to Get Bing, Voice Commands, Youtube and Live TV Streaming

At the Xbox 360 keynote today, Microsoft has announced that they will be performing a major overhaul on their flagship Xbox Live Service. The service will integrate even greater Kinect functionality allowing the user to utilize voice commands to control their Xbox Live experience. This coupled with the new Bing feature, that allows you to search for content on Xbox Live, will let players navigate through menus easier than ever and without hitting a button.

Youtube will also be hitting Microsoft’s console and will have all the features of it’s web counterpart. That means that Xbox users will have full access to all Youtube content. Now I can finally watch Achievement Hunter on my Xbox.

The biggest announcement is the Live TV service and Microsoft skimped on the details. We aren’t sure exactly how it will work, what it will cost, or even what regions it will be developed in. Of course, you will be able to use those voice commands to access the television features.

Nvidia Partners With Youtube – 3D Gaming Videos Incoming!

Over here at RipTen we’ve been into 3DVision and 3D gameplay vids for quite some time. However, up until now, unless you knew about places like 3DVision Live, there weren’t many places to upload and watch 3D gaming videos easily. Well, worry no more.

Nvidia has partnered with YouTube, yes YouTube itself and you will now be able to easily upload and watch 3D videos in between the usual smattering of lolcats and laughing babies.

There’s only one catch, you need Firefox 4. Deal with it.

“We’re excited to introduce HTML5 and WebM support to the thousands of 3D videos available on
YouTube,” said Jonathan Huang 3D Product Manager at YouTube. “By embracing these open
standards, NVIDIA 3D Vision users now have a great way of experiencing YouTube’s library of 3D
content.”

“Firefox with 3D Vision creates a stunning and smooth 3D video experience using HTML5 video
based on open standards,” said Jay Sullivan, VP of Products at Mozilla. “3D Vision from NVIDIA is a
great example of the rich, innovative experiences that are being built on top of the speed and
graphics power that Firefox delivers to the Web.”

Portal Glory Hole Gets Porky (Video)

A new video has been released by TheWarpZone to capture their love of miniature Portals, glory holes, and punishment for perversion. Unlike the fine pranksters we previously showed off, we found some Portal 2 fans who prefer a bloodier prank. It’s really quite pleasant, and could be seen as a lesson: if you find a portal that’s just the right size… don’t stick anything of any importance into it. The end result will most likely not be what you were aiming for:

Our phones may be getting smarter, but we’re nowhere closer to achieving the goals we set for ourselves ages ago during the sacking of Rome- when man first promised to one day forge a portal gun that would give way to the greatest pranks of all time. In the year 2011, I can use my phone to turn on my car remotely, but I can’t fire a damn portal gun. Luckily, Finalcutking and the VFX Bro can at least pretend that such a thing exists in this video.

These special effects are indeed commendable. Watch and be amazed… for science.

RipTen Unveils the Kaiser Baas Game Recorder 8

If PC has one thing up over console it’s the simplicity of recording gameplay footage. Just install FRAPS, hit your hotkey and you’re recording in full 1080p. Unfortunately it’s not so easy for our console brethren to get their fragtastic videos onto their computers and the internet so Kaiser Bass – a company well known for their video capture devices is working on a device dedicated to recording Xbox 360, Ps3 and Nintendo Wii gameplay.

From my time working with a number of Australian gaming communities, something that always stood out to me was the number of people making montages of their awesome kills and frags, yet the difference in quality was astounding. You could either spend $300 or more on a HD-PVR or spend under $100 on a Standard Definition recorder and suffer the low quality yet still have proof of your skills. Well the Game Recorder aims to be a happy medium being both affordable and generally easy on the eyes.

Like the above images show, the Game Recorder 8 is quite a small device that plugs right into any spare USB 2.0 port you have. This makes the device perfect for anyone with a laptop as it’s both convenient in size and easy on your hardware. Once the USB is plugged in you simply plug the Yellow video cable and Red/White audio cables into the corresponding female ports and everything is set-up.

For those of you who are familiar with the clunky Dazzle DVC-100 recorder you will know that you need splitters, extra RCA cables and even then it’s very hit and miss. Well the Game Recorder 8 lets you see the gameplay footage on your PC/Laptop screen whilst you record, removing the need for any extra cables or displays. You can see the Game Recorder software in action above. Once you want to record it’s as simple as right-clicking the program and clicking on record and bang, it’s recording.

You can see an example of the Standard Definition quality above. I have been told that a HD model is in the works but there’s no mention of when or if it will ever go public, and I feel like that’s the decisively needed playing card in the capture device game – a decently priced HD device.

Machinima Respawn YouTube Account Suspended?

In a surprising move, YouTube has suspended one of the most popular YouTube channels. Machinima Respawn, a channel dedicated to bringing all the latest trailers, gameplay videos and montages was suspended earlier today with YouTube saying;

“machinimarespawn has been terminated due to repeated or severe violations of our Community Guidelines.”

The Machinima Respawn Twitter account said;

“Hey all. We are working with YouTube to resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience in the meantime.”

When we hear more we will let you know, but be sure to stay tuned.

Interactive 8-Bit Twilight: Eclipse Game Presents A Dangerous Conflict

Twilight is the bane of the existence of many gamers. Sure, it’s a horrible, vapid series, but many of us make such a judgment based on the premise alone, without wanting to read the book or watch the movie. Having done both (I can explain, you guys, put down the bats) I can confirm that it is as uninspired and poorly written as we all think (It is the Yaris of the literary world.) but because of that, I now have a dilemma.

On one hand, I could tell you about this interactive Twilight: Eclipse game based on the movie, and explain that it’s actually a really neat use of YouTube’s interactive annotations feature. On the other hand, I could turn a blind eye to it, scoff and say “Twilight is for dumb eleven year old girls.” In this case, I think it’s best to just leave the first video above and let you make your decision as to whether or not to play it. (And then whether or not to tell people that you played it.)

Gears of War Fan Makes Cliff Bleszinski’s Month, Puts Others to Shame

There are Gears of War fans, and then there are complete lunatics. This guy falls somewhere in between the two.

Chad is our resident Gears of War fan, and when he linked me to this video, I could sense the shame and sadness in his text. He thought he was a real fan, but after seeing this, he may have realized that he let Cliff Bleszinski down.

I can imagine him now — tears streaming down his face as he slowly pulls his lancer replica from its proud place above his mantle. Kissing it once before stuffing it into a large tupperware container next to his Mr. Potato Head and a broken Rubik’s Cube. He lets out a whimper, snaps the lid back in place, and slides it ever-so-gently back beneath his bed — the final resting place for a lancer owned by Gears of War’s second biggest fan.

He thought he loved Gears. He thought he was the number one fan. But after watching iSekC’s video, he realized iSekC possessed a quality that he did not. Simply put, Chad was not fucking crazy enough.

At least that’s how I imagined it all going down.

Anyway, this is guy is nuts, in the best way possible, which is why CliffyB linked to him on his twitter account, calling the guy the number one Gears fan and saying:

“I can’t stop laughing. This guy made my month! SO GOOD.”

New YouTube Patent Looks To Merge Video Viewing & Interactive Gaming Into One Web-Based Experience

YouTube, the web-based film sharing giant owned by Google Inc., applied for a patent in February, 2009 which would enable the use of videogames on their site. The gist of what they plan to do is alter videos on there site to create games that work in a similar fashion to the way choose your own adventure games do. You could also make a play style comparison to the upcoming Quantic Dream title, Heavy Rain, though I’m willing to bet it won’t be quite as in-depth or as beautiful as Rain.

As far as the actual implementation itself, it could go down a few different ways. First, mini-games could be added to certain sections of a video. Second, source videos could be uploaded to YouTube, allowing you to progress through them with specific actions that trigger certain interactive sequences. This could potentially allow a generation of YouTube users to become independent videogame developers of sorts.

Since that Patent was just published this month it is unlikely that we will be seeing this feature anytime soon, but the bright side is that gamers will eventually have another form of free gaming to look forward to in the not so distant future.
