The Last of Us: New Story Details and Art

Naughty Dog recently revealed they wanted to do more Jak & Daxter but instead endeavored to make a new IP, and that IP is The Last of Us. Or, the last of them? The last of … some people? I’m still alive, for the record.

Naughty Dog’s creative director Neil Druckmann and director on the actual game Bruce Straley went in depth about The Last of Us‘ two main characters and the world they’ll inhabit (Earth, for the record). APOCALYPSE TIME! Yay, more humans dying in massive amounts at once! Interestingly enough, The Last of Us takes the death-by-science path which results in-in a rather predictable turn of events- zombies. This time, the world’s been nearly cleansed by a lethal fungus epidemic leaving the remnants of humanity under harshly ruled military-controlled quarantine zones. World ended? Time to get tough!

The two main characters are the magic here. 40-ish year old Joel and 14-year-old Ellie have a very strange relationship in that Joel was contracted to smuggle her out of her quarantine zone only to get her trapped with him in the fungus-infested, zombie-infested badlands of the world. Luckily, Joel’s background as a black-market badass will come into play here. After whatever disaster occurred and killed all the other peoples of the world, Joel ended up sad and stuff, so now he just doesn’t give a fuck.

However! He’s not about to leave this 14-year-old girl in the middle of zombie-death-town, so he endeavors to whisk her (and presumably himself) off to a secret land of milk and honey, otherwise known as a safe zone where the zombies, and the military, have no reach.

Man I’m tired of apocalypse stuff. I’m also tired of every protagonist having short brown hair and a big ass forehead. Who has time to cut their hair after the apocalypse? They don’t shave, but they cut their hair? Joel was like “Man I used to love video games before the apocalypse. In honor of that, I’ll look exactly like Nathan Drake! Yeah. Fresh.” Anyways, Naughty Dog’s amazing so this will probably be awesome, look forward to it.

Resident Evil 6…Does That Mean 6 Player Co-Op?

Resident Evil 6 has already been revealed, but the rumors don’t stop coming. Even though Leon and Chris will be in different locales, it doesn’t mean you won’t be able to game with a friend or two. But how about playing with an extra five people?

The Xbox.com page for the game lists co-op play as up to six players at once. Yeah, that’s right, six. It doesn’t specify if this is for the campaign or a separate game mode, but shooting up zombies together with five other people sounds pretty insane. It’d be Gears of War 3′s Horder mode plus 1000. Capcom hasn’t confirmed whether or not if this is true, but we’ll let you know when it is.

Resident Evil 6 mutates onto stores November 20 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Resident Evil 6 Coming This November, First Trailer Infects The Web

It looks like Capcom didn’t want to wait. After all the rumors about Resident Evil 6, including the ads they bought, they’ve decided to blow the lid on Resident Evil 6. Here’s what Capcom’s revealed:

The game is coming out for Xbox 360 and PS3, with a PC version arriving “at a later date”
The game’s story takes place 10 years after the Raccoon City incident. The President of the United States is going to reveal what actually happen so it’ll curb bioterrorist activity
Returning heroes Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield will be the playable characters with separate campaigns. Think Arbiter and Chief from Halo 2 and their paths will cross at some point in the game
Chris’ storyline will take him to China, while Leon’s will put him here, square in the US of A. Leon’s with the President when he’s about to reveal the truth, when the President gets infected. Leon will have to make a hard decision regarding the President’s fate, and the world will be united by “a common fear that there is no hope left”.
The game will utilize a cover system, just like Resident Evil 5 before it
Resident Evil 6 is directed by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who’s making sure the team is “working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values”.
Expect different pre-order bonuses depending on where you get the game. Gamestop, Best Buy, and Amazon will each get their own exclusive map to function with the game’s various modes.

More Details About “The Last of Us”

This past weekend, Naughty Dog unveiled their new game, The Last of Us. The trailer was undeniably gorgeous and intriguing, and questions have been asked about the game since. Naughty Dog’s now posted some new information on the game.

The Last of Us starts after a modern plague has ravaged most of the country. Those that survive kill each other for food, weapons, anything they can to last one more day.
The two leads are Joel and Ellie. Joel is voiced by Troy Baker of Saints Row: The Third and Bioshock Infinite fame, while Ellie is not voiced by Ellen Page, but by Ashley Johnson. They’re trying to make their way across the country, presumably in hopes of finding a permanent safe haven.
According to creative director Neil Druckmann, the game’s been in development for two years already. One team has been working on this, while another team was hard at work on Uncharted 3 and other stuff.
The UK page for the game suggests that this is a strictly one-player affair, as it says “no network play.” Naughty Dog may change their minds sometime down the road, but if this is anything like Enslaved, I doubt player one will have fun carrying player two on their back the whole game. Also suggested from the page is that the game will be rated “Mature”, which is a first for Naughty Dog.

The Last of Us runs from danger sometime in 2012 exclusively for the PS3. Does this news have you excited yet?

It’s confirmed, folks. Naughty Dog is developing the PS3-exclusive, Dead Island, starring Ellen Page.

The game looks great, but I’m going to have to kick back and sigh. Do we need another post-apocalyptic, zombie-esque game? Probably not. But hey, at least this time around I know this game will be done right. Ya know, Naughty Dog.

One of my personal favorite games on the iPhone is COD:Zombies. Others have come and gone, but that game has stayed on my phone since it launched. So you can guess how exciting it is to hear that a Black Ops version is going to be released tomorrow.

It features a guy dressed in a bathrobe running from zombies. He then arms himself with a four foot long dildo and bitch slaps the heck out of them (I’m not making this up).

Dead Island Dev Registers Trademark for “Dead World”

It’s only been a little over a month, but Dead Island has quickly become the surprise hit of the fall.

A lot of people are still talking about it, even with the recent releases of Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3. The stellar reviews (ours among them) combined with shipping over two million copies has given developer Techland the idea that they need to make a sequel, and it looks like they’ve already gotten started.

They’ve recently filed a trademark for “Dead World” in the U.S., and unless they’ve got plans for a zombie theme park, it sounds like the name of a sequel. Techland’s declined to comment or officially announce a sequel, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear anything.

New Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone Trailer

Konami has released an all new trailer for their upcoming twin-stick action shooter, Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone. The trailer features four unlikely heroes who find themselves caught in a fight for their lives when the Zombie Apocalypse hits their small Canadian community.

“Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone is the follow up to 2009′s smash-hit twin-stick action shooter. Players will need to navigate through the island finding various ways to obliterate their zombie aggressors while keeping an eye out for any remaining human survivors. The end goal is to find a way off their island deathtrap, save who they can and do so without becoming one of the infected. To give players a fighting chance at survival, a new squad-based gameplay mechanic has been introduced, giving players full control of the action whether they choose to play alone or with up to four players cooperatively. The game will also allow players to swap from one team member to the next as each team member will have his or her own set of weapons and abilities.”

Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone is set to release on October 26th for XBLA and October 25th for PSN.

The House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut Grindhouse Strip Club Trailer is Gruesomely Groovy

Yeah I know, ‘groovy’ is more of a 60′s term but who cares. This new trailer for The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut definitely captures the 70′s Grindhouse feel. Here’s a description from the press release:

Dead Nation DLC ‘Road of Devastation’ Announced

Nowadays, making a zombie-themed game is a sure way to success, given modern society’s strange obsession with dead things. (Hell, why do you think Suda’s next game is about zombies?) Housemarque’s Dead Nation is no exception. 3.8 million PSN downloads later, Housemarque has realized something to cash in on. With fans egging them on, they’ve finally decided to release downloadable content.

Road of Devastation leaves off from where the original game ended. Your character wakes up in a laboratory and after leaving, he or she finds a three-way crossroad. Each way leads to different items and different enemies, essentially with the goal of allowing you to play through the game three different times and have three different experiences.

As of now, release date and pricing information have not yet been released. Road of Devastation will be a PSN-exclusive as was the original game. Stay tuned. We’ll get you more information about Road of Devastation as soon as it’s released.

RipTen Review: Dead Island (Xbox 360)

After an opening video that reminded me of my usual Saturday night, I came to the title screen of Dead Island — a view of nothing but a cloud of blood slowly dispersing in the water while somber music played in the background. It was at this point that I started to think I might like this game. Then I hit the start button and those feelings went right out the window.

At the character select screen, I flipped through my choices of Asian ninja girl, half-black half-Australian mercenary girl, a black rapping dude, and Chuck Liddell. These characters give a sob-story voiceover about why they are on the island, and quite frankly this was the moment where I stopped giving a fuck whether or not any of them survived what I knew was about to happen to them. Thankfully, once the game actually started, they stopped talking.

So I make my selection. Anyone who knows me would also know that the obvious choice is the Asian girl. I may be a huge sexy white guy on the outside, but on the inside, I’m an Asian woman through and through. This one knows martial arts. She’s good with a blade. She’s in all of the advertisements so she must have some kind of hidden perks. Now I just need to find some other hot girls to go make out with.

The first hot girl I run into chases me down a hallway and punches me in the face. Not cool! You know, she wasn’t even all that hot anyway. Her body was alright, but she had some serious kind of skin condition. Whatevs. I’m sure I can find some more girlies. Hey, there’s one! Oh, she’s in a bikini just like the last girl and– eww! What is up with that skin!? Turns out, she’s on her period or something. This is not why I came to this tropical resort, so I’m getting upset.

A lifeguard informs me that these women aren’t on their periods, they’re just zombies. Oh, and somehow I’m immune to the zombie virus, so it’s up to me to go do EVERY GODDAMN THING THERE IS TO DO while all of these pussies hide out in a shack. Alright, just give me that broomstick so I can go beat some bitches up and save your collective asses. I didn’t want to share any of my XP or energy drinks with you jerks anyhow.

I head out of the shack in search of Lifeguard Cinnamon’s I.D. so that we can move all of the pussies from the shack to the lifeguard station, which I’m told is a more secure location. So I go find it and open the gates, and they all roll up in a pickup. You guys had a pickup this whole time and didn’t bother to let me use it while I was out here doing EVERY GODDAMN THING FOR YOU? You know what, that’s fine. Just give me the XP, you dick.

It’s at this point that Lifeguard Cinnamon tells me that I can get more XP by helping all of the other helpless pussies besides him, and BOOM! I now have a bunch of quest options. I help some girl find her teddy bear. I bring some other girl a few bottles of water. I escort some other girl back to the lifeguard station. They all give me XP, but still none of them make out with me. They’re probably just racists and don’t like my Hong Kongitude. Or maybe they work for The Network.

All of this took place over the course of about 2 hours, and when I stopped to think about it, I realized that I was having a pretty good time. During the prologue, I was a bit unsure if I was really going to like Dead Island. The controls just didn’t feel all that tight and I already noticed some graphical hiccups, like if I look down at my feet when I jump I can see through my body. The prologue was short, though, and after changing the look sensitivity and bashing a few zombie brains, the controls started to feel more natural.

My only gripe here is that the same button is used to enter Fury mode and to heal myself — holding B enters Fury, but just pressing it uses a medkit. Sometimes I try to use Fury before realizing that my meter isn’t the whole way up yet, so I let go of the button and it makes me use a medkit. This has only happened maybe four times, but I feel it was four times too many. Fury mode, by the way, is different depending on your character. My Asian chick goes into a chopping frenzy with a kitchen knife, Chuck Liddell throws a bunch of stuff, etc.

Dead Island Launch Trailer Leaves You Hanging

In celebration of Dead Island‘s launch next week, Deep Silver has unveiled the official release trailer, featuring some exciting action sequences and cutscenes from the game. As well as the same haunting theme from the original award winning cinematic trailer.

Dead Island, the upcoming gruesome zombie action game with RPG elements by renowned developer Techland, combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customisation of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Dead Island is set to release September 6th for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection – Zombie Authority Trailer

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has released the official announcement trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw. From Suda51, James Gunn and Grasshopper Manufacture, Lollipop Chainsaw tells the tale of zombie hunter/cheerleader Juliet Starling as she hacks her way through hoards of the undead with her trusty chainsaw to discover the mystery of the zombie outbreak.

Lollipop Chainsaw is scheduled for release in 2012 for Xbox 360, and PS3. Oh baby.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Rezurrection Zombie Map Pack Announced

It’s always about the zombies, isn’t it? Get your shotguns ready, all you Call of Duty: Black Ops die-hards, because Rezurrection is coming to you on August 23 and it’s bringing five zombie maps with it. Owners of the Prestige and Hardened editions already have the four re-mastered maps, but Rezurrection will introduce the all-new Moon level, because slaying the undead in low-gravity is something you need to experience. Plus, in space, no one can hear them scream for “brraaaaains.” That’s not all!

The Rezurrection content pack includes:

The all new Moon level
Four re-mastered levels of Zombie lore: Nacht der Untoten, Verruckt, Shi No Numa and Der Riese, the Zombie factory that started it all
An enhanced Zombies Soundtrack including three tracks never before available for purchase

Even if you’ve already played the other zombie maps, you might as well grab the Moon level, plus Moon theme. Treyarch will also host a Double XP weekend to commemorate the launch of the new pack. I know what you’ll be doing this Labor Day weekend.

Dead Island has weapons. Lots of weapons. Maybe not as many random ass guns as Borderlands, but these are infinitely more brutal.

Anyhow, a list of weapons from Techland‘s upcoming zombie action/RPG has surfaced on teh web and Deep Silver has confirmed that yeah, these are some of ‘em, but there are a “shit ton” more. Don’t forget there are also a near limitless number of ways to modify each of these weapons which will change both the way they look and the stats placed upon them.
